looking promising,, class work!!!
fairplay sir!:)
Man your gifted, i mean that i'm welding and steel working for a living and you have some serious skill, fair play to you and great project, p.s we have the same model sledge hammer (home made:p)
Right it's been a while since the last update, havnt got much done with the thing dou to other cars and jobs getting in the way.
but i have got a little bit done.
first of all i got my flywheel back, i have been insured that it will be strong enough, with the amount of holes in the thing im a bit worried about it, but we will wait and see!
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...psa592b36c.jpg
i also got i few arms and bits for the front suspension, like everything sr in this car i have chopped and modded them!

http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...ps960c94fb.jpg
bottom arms only have a slight bit put into them but its a wedge which makes tings slightly easier for me!
i changed the top suspension points also to make sure nothing is near to binding, the camber is now a little much but it is very adjustable so will tweek it when its rolling properly.

http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...ps23d3e01c.jpg
they are two pots that came off the rear of merc, since anything would be better than the standard rear s14 brakes i said il try and make them fit.
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4e61bbec.jpg
they wont be too much work to get fitting!
recently i have been making lots of banded steel wheels for people so i said id make a set for the merc.
they are 17x9.5.

next update hopefully i will have a gearbox on the engine and the engine mounted.
jesus this is some build fair play 2 ya
Really cracking build and savage skills. Looking forward to more.
You will never be able to get a tyre on to them rims. i made the same mistake before when.i made a set the rib in the middle for the bead to sink into will need to be alot closer to either the front or rear i hop you see this before you weld them.up fully
small little update!:)

Is that Corsa 00LK2520? My bro in law bought it new, good to see it still on the road lol
this is an absolute cwwwwwwazy build fella , fair play, you have some skills and a serious amount of patience !!. ill have a lot of questions for you in the not too distant future!! :) 2 quick questions.....why did you drill new holes in the flywheel and chance weakening it rather than elongating the oniginal holes and secondly ....is there much to making an adaptor plate for the sr gearbox???? just i run cnc machining centres and was wondering what exactly there is to do it .
are you re-drilling the steelies? they're not 5x114 any I assume?
great work by the way
ya patience is something I'm running out of with this car!:p
I went to a machine shop over the road from me and asked him what would be the best way 2 change the hole pattern and he said its much easier to drill new holes to make sure it fits 100%, he said elongating the hole wouldn't be as accurate!
Amm I'm not using an adapter plate, I'm doing it slightly different.
Keep an eye on the build thread and you'll see what I'm on about!;)
But if you did want to use an adapter plate, it a bit awkward because none of the holes line up and some arnt too far from overlapping each other.
If you are good on the computer I'm sure you'd master it!
Looking good fairplay
some series work.unreal build
some serious work man. Should be epic when it's finished :afro:
Nice work on the wheels. The VW breggade would bite your arm off for them.
Thats some project, loving it man!
anymore updates liam im mad to see this built :afro:
between the mini and this you have some serious skills! fair play to ya!
Finally got some work done to this thing, few small bits and a big bit!:)
First of all changed the brake master cylinder to the lexus one.
looks a bit rough in the pics but its not too bad in person!:p

http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...psfeb2d510.jpg
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6bfef778.jpg

http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4a84146e.jpg
be back soon!:)
I was sceptical at the start thinking this was gonna be a cowboy build but its sweet.
Those steels are savage!!
One thing though - in the pic where you say the flywheel strength worried you, what about the pink writing on the flywheel saying warped - no good for use???
Keep it up,be sweet to see this thing going.
Haha il take that as a compliment!:p
Ya I know it seems a bit dodgy but it should be ok, and ya it does say that on the flywheel, it can be straightened by resurfacing it but im actully going running an sr clutch and flywheel it's cheaper to get the sr flywheel drilled than to get the 1jz one resurfaced!
Right didn't quiet get too much done recently due to a lack of funds!
Mainly because of a new welder i bought, for all who care heres a pic.:p
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...psb90d974e.jpg
Since i had no inner rear wheel tubs to attach to roll cage to i had to make something with a bit of strenght.
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...psae65a065.jpg
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...psf4da73d0.jpg
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...pse3167847.jpg
That should do the job nicely!:)
Also got an sr flywheel machined.
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5e3c182b.jpg
should have the gearbox on the engine soon.
i started mounting the steering rack, the track rods needed a little bit of modification. needed an 80mm extension!
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...ps645d9d86.jpg
steering column nearly finished, just one more rose joint needed.:)
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2278a3f0.jpg
got the seat mounted.
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...psfae9d03f.jpg
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...ps186fab82.jpg
Be back soon!
mad cunt. haha
So much win...
Liam your some man!! Fucking serious build, those wheels are sex :)
Thats a dam fine welder! Where did ya pick it up?? In the market for one at the moment, mad to get back into tig welding stuff its just so god damn pretty!
That kirki seat is sooo cool! Also nice tidy welder!
Ya I'm very happy with it, very good quality and very stable arc!
I got it from a.r. brownlows here in cork, but you can get it from a few places in England, and I think wholesaleweldingsupplies.ie are going to be stocking it soon. Everywhere seems to be around the same price, around €1700. I got a few extras with mine tho longer torch lead and earth lead.
