2011 sponsorship

Lads this chap deserves all the sponsorship he can get he is a savage pilot and he drives that car balls out all the time. there has been people postin sayin that they went out and found there own sponsorship is that not what he is tryin to do here by postin it in the limelight of the sport so people can see. I think its bad form for anybody to say that he is bein cheeky lookin for sponsorship on here. I have to say if I had a job I give a donation of some sort like after all lads he is tryin to progress in the sport and for fellow drifters to complain about it is bad form. At the end of the day if ya dont ask you dont recieve and thats all he done was ask if anybody could help him out

No one in this thread is disputing the fact that he is a very capable driver, with a seriously well spec'd machine.

What people are complaining about is, that one day he puts the freshly built car up for sale, the next day he takes it down and asks for money, a month away from the first round. So he's coming across as unorganised.

Obviously the reason he put it for sale was to have the money to do prodrift in someones car so he doesnt have to ask anyone for sponsorship he obviously feels a bit embarassed to ask considerin the way he started the thread. he isnt unorganised he just hasnt got the backin to do what he is good at and he is now stuck between a rock and a hard place between bein able to do prodrift and not bein able this is why he is weighing up his options

No your missing my point, I completely understand why he's doing it, the reason people are giving out is that, as a prodriver, this should have all been sorted out by now! Things are being left abit late!

Just to state, for drivers who have a "tyre" sponsorship deal, all us never rosey, and as Amy said it still costs money to those along with certain complications, witnessing this has certainly made
me question chasing a tyre sponser.

Kind of irrelevant to this thread but just clearing the above comment as you've mentioned 2 names of drivers who are not involved with this thread, an ithink it very unfair to mention considering both are on here and if they wanted to commen on this thread, I'm sure they would have done so.

Ffrenchy is by far one of the best drivers in Europe and I personally hope this car stays and he gets to drive the shit out if it while bringing the "fight and aggression" back to irish and European spectators.

Once again I never said they get everything paid for, she asked for an example and I simply gave her one I think it's fair to say that anyone of the other drivers that is sponsored by a multinational company has a pretty large sponsor behind them

Understood but your still missing 2 points I've made..
1.. You mentioned 2 names if well known drivers in here that have not been involved with this thread, yes u used as an example but I don't think it's appropriate.
2.. Just because cars carry the colours and large logos when sponsored by a tyre company does not mean that they have by far "great" deals, each drivers deal is different and there are still a he'll if a lot of expenses on the drivers regardless of having a quantity if free tyres and large company backing.

It all looks great in exterior but I can almost be certain every driver with a tyre sponser does not have it willy nilly and ease free as a lot of people may think.

Anyway none of this has anything whatsoever in helping Martin so I don't see why it should continue talking bollox completely off topic and involving other drivers.

What am i missing here?? I know tires are pricey, but can u cut come corners? Now that the Tire Regs are in cant u run 595s rs? I bought 10 for €700.......wud u need 10 per event? Cud u not use something cheaper for practice runs? I know grip will then be an issue but......

Not worth the hassle nor shit that came with it, i think thru Paypal was about £292 raised, the majority was raised at the BDC Dinner Dance ;)

The biggest problem with any company wanting to sponsor a driver is prodrift. If the sponsor is not also sponsoring prodrift then the sponsor won't have there name mentioned at all.

I know this big time from years of involvement. That is why TDP don't do sponsorship for prodrift as there is no publicity return.

Before any one starts at me think about this. I have put 10's thousands into prodrift over the years and to an outsider who knows nothing about the sport my company name would not be even mentioned off there lips when it comes to it.

I nearly put TDP out of business helping James Dean in America only to have the TDP never mentioned once by any of the press or FD guys because PD were handling the media. Great when you put in 10 times what the tyre sponsor dose for one event.

To forward on from Robbie's post above, what really is the incentive in Irish Drifting for a company to hand out their hard earned stock or money to someone driving in PD.

For example James Deane and Christy Carpenter, both sponsored by Nexen Tires last season and two of the best drivers to watch last season in the series and of course James won the championship with Carpo coming 3rd of 4th.

Did everyone go out this season buying Nexen Tires to win the championship, I think not, you really have to sell yourself to a sponsor and show them how you are going to gain them coverage, you must present this in a business like and professional manner imo, not simply asking for it over an internet forum, I can't see any results from it, we all know Martin FFrench is an incredible driver, I rate him as the best driver I have ever seen in the country, but how will a potential sponsor know this ?

I don't think the thread was aimed to go into how much TDP once put into a PD driver and Nexen was used as a working example, I quoted your post based on the emphasis of what does the sponsor get back in return for their commitment rather than opening up a topical debate of TDP's yearly profits etc.

The example is to do with size of the company you approach for sponsorship. Small companies need a bigger return per euro spent than big companies. It all relative to the turn over. If Nexen turns over 10million and they sponsor 10 k it's a tiny fraction. Where as local companies may struggle to turn over 200 k so even 1 k is massive to them.

The problem is that in Ireland people don't understand how important it is to help you sponsors if you want money from them.

Totally agree here,a friend of mine does circuit racing and makes proposals coming up to the season start and goes about in the same way as if someone is looking for a job and he has been sucessfull in getting sponsership this way,ill try get a copy of the proposal to show you the kind of stuff on it

In saying that Robbie, would i be right in saying MOST Pd cars are mapped by you and when ppl ask then ur name is mentioned. Im sure alot of ur profits have arose from PD, i know ive dropped your name a million times.

Your right in one way but thats not the full story,They dont sponsor the two lads and expect every other driver to start using nexan tyres,that not how advertising works its a knock on thing so in other words if you or i go to a tyre shop for four tyres and the guys says i can give four nankang's for x amount or i can give your 4 nexan's for x amount,the chances are you will pick the nexans because the brand is in your head because of the two lads using them.

i woudnt say that now alot of lads think of money not the name of a tyre some one else uses u could get 6 nankangs for the price of 4 nexen's wat tyre would you buy them?? its not all bout the tyres alot is got to do with how the car is set up, looks at james's car their isnt a car out their that can come out of a corner close to him all down to the set up of the car

You might be right. But when we sponsor cars fully as we have many times. Where did you ever see it printed that it was the TDP S13. Never it was always the tire sponsor who got the name before the car or drivers name. It should be relative to the amount put forward by the sponsor. But since PD deal with the tire sponsors for the drivers they always come first.

Chuck I believed that you agreed to carry TDP stickers 4 off on you car for a season in return for money off your ecu and mapping. Did you have the correct numbers of stickers on it for the year ?

Well i dont know the price of them excatly i just used nankangs as an example,if tyres are matched the pretty same price wise the chances are they will go with the one they associate with what ever sport there into.

im not sure the price on them either i just used it fro example if a lad can get 3 more tyres for the same price on a diff make tyre he will take the cheaper brand and thats for sure..

john paul mc i see uses nankang on the rear of the bmw and he he was always up their with the best of them ;; like i said most of it is down to the set-up on the car and driver

I did, 2 under the windows n 2 on the rear bumper which got mangleated..........

I have NO problem promoting you and the lads because of the level of work ye provide, if you want to throw a few stickers on the bmw this year, no problem at all.

Hi Chuck, I am not complaining but its just an example of what happens and the sponsors some times dont get the coverage as agreed form the competitors. Irish sport still dose not understand sponsorship like in other countries.

Kool, well i always make sure any of my sponsors get a mention with name drops etc no matter how small they are. I also thank them in any build threads or anything and at the end of season. I agree, you need to back the ppl that in turn back you.

On topic of martins dilemma, could you not try pull off round 1 Martin, show your skills, win some silverwear and then hunt for sponsors........

I know im no where near Pro standard but thats kinda my plan, i have my entries paid for for the year but if i can make any headway with a more reliable car i hope to get some more ppl on board by showing them what i can do. On the flip side i cud go threw the wall in Ennis n fuck up in true me style :)

People who can do never get good sponsors in this county as bull shit usually wins through.

Martin has the best media machine of all the drifters in the country already. He has been on speed hunters more than any other driver so if he really want a sponsor he need to collate all past results and media coverage into viewing statistics and go see some companies that are still making a profit.
