We started the roll cage today, getting a bit ahead of ourselves but the strut bar is welded in place now waiting to be joined to the rest of the cage

Mike, Is Finland not a bit far considering that we can bend very light wall T45 tubing in house. We even have it in stock.
Robbie
Great stuff mike. Brilliant to see sumtin that hasnt been done on these shores before... Cannot wait for prodrift this year... The competition is taking massive strides every year with lads like yourself getting bigger and better with more work going into everyone's cars.. Its great to see.. Credit to you and all the lads concerned.. It must be handy having such a wealth of knowledge and skill on tap from the MCN Crew... Best of luck with her
It did as far as I know lad, I think theyre to be finished soon so if you know anyone looking for a set let me know! Thanks again, few pints on the way for you ;)
It is indeed! It was just that there was a big shipment of stuff going over there and it was costing next to nothing to send it and have it sent back, but we got a few things done closer to home and as you now know we went to TDP for the hoop, which is just bent using 45 x 2.5mm T45.
We have been very busy with the last few weeks, again behind the scenes aswell as on the car. The combination of a busted laptop and the fact that there isn't a whole pile to see in the work we've been doing lately (a lot of ripping, cleaning, cutting, gathering stuff etc.) means that I didn't post up pics in a few weeks but with the arrival of the hoop from TDP tomorrow it's going to be all systems go for the next seven weeks, hopefully with plenty of interesting stuff to show. Im happy to say that the sponsorship side of things has gone really well with a lot of enthusiasm about the car and we have some new partners for the 2011 season.
Thanks a million to everyone for all the comments and support so far, when you're putting absolutely everything you have and more into a project its great to see the support from people in the circumstances, and it makes it all the more worthwhile. We have a great team involved in this from the mechanics to the chassis builders, the sponsors to the graphics designer. I cant wait for the next seven or eight mad weeks to see what way she turns out :) More pics early next week!
Be cutting it close dude but we have faith in you and the team.
Comin along nicely man ;)
coming along nicely, can't wait to see her coming round the bend :)
Here are a few pics of the Hoop Mike.

Robbie
Cool Robbie thanks, I saw the time lapse on Facebook, sweet job! The hoop is perfect anyway, cheers man :)
tis comin on well now mike...is everything lookin like it'll be done in time for rd1
Hopefully lad, we will be working on it flat out for the next seven weeks. The kit is arriving in England the last week of March if the container is on time. That was the earliest I could get that kit shipped in once I decided that I was definately going with the FC rather than re-shelling. The paint will be still wet on it at round 1 ha ha!
Nice work. Would you mind me asking what make the hydraulic power pack for that bender is and where one could be got in Ireland for reasonable money?
great buid mike hope all goes well this year for you
Robbie at TDP.ie is the man to ask about that dude.
Thanks a million lad, were putting all we have into it now. It would have been so much easier to re-shell but this just felt like the right way to go and we wanted to see what a properly built FC could do. I think theyre just awesome anyway ha ha :D The Sileighty was a great car but at the end of the day it could have been turned back into a road car straight away, all the heater stuff, glass, standard tank, electric windows etc. were still in it, it was going to be fully stripped this winter but I made shit of it first! So hopefully we will go well in a properly lightened chassis.
One of the main problems will be a lack of testing time in a car which will most likely be very different to the Sileighty to drive and will require more time to set up because the common geometry settings that work for the S bodys might not necessarily work for an FC. It means that I'll be sitting into it in the first competitive round more or less completely new to the car and will still be going 90% the first day out, but with Darren's wealth of knowledge on chassis setup I'd hope it should be good from the get go, its just a case of tweaking it to suit the driving style then.
you made a good choise to use the fc i love them and will be someting different
Its comin along nicely nw lad :P cant wait 2 see d end result :)!!!!!!!!!!!!
The days spent at the car are getting longer, and there are some late nights ahead methinks! :)

The back section of the roll cage is going to look really well. We've gone for a basic yet effective cage design, which will be very light yet structurally strong

Sweet Mike, coming along nicely...
Excellent stuff young Fitzgerald - must be fantastic to have such a great team of guys working on the car - knowing that when it gets the first round its going to be on the money.
So excited to see this car painted and finished

wat the fuck did ya do now????
Mike ya love a fuckin challenge, rumour has it James is to blame ;) :D
Ouch nasty one, foot is it mike??
How'd ya do that one??
The usual Ste, landed myself in hospital! :p On the plus side Mulvey rang me unconsolably laughing down the phone at me while I was in A and E, on my own. Such a warm, supportive family atmosphere exists in Buttevant  :)
Yeah it was all James' fault!
Naw Scamper, right hand, holesaw caught and the drill kicked.
Ok well thats actually what happened to tell the truth :p It was your singing 'Mustang Sally' just before it happened that got me all worked up! :D
nice.................. you'd break ANYTHING!
shell be sweet
