To be fair Mike Barry was absolutely bang on with any dealings I had with him!! His mechanic is firey tho. Track time did improve the last few times they ran, but his mechanic changing regulations on the morning of a drift event & not telling us when we were booking in was absolute fuck! So much so we just packed up & went home there the last event they ran in tynagh. Grammer Seat rails from a MAN truck that have been fitted to our car for over 2 years suddenly no longer allowed..

Someone got hurt, was it in tynagh? What happened? Insurance claims can tie down event insurance for over a year which is a balls

Not on any side of the fence here but there's more to organising a track day than most people think. Charging on the gate is usually to satisfy the venue and the organisers are lucky to see any of it. I don't know about WGH but Mondello keep all gate proceeds for practice days. I'd encourage anyone who wants to give it a go to set up drift days in WGH and Tynagh. The hunger is there, people are queueing up to do practice days there.

As Stevo said, road cars are definitely back and getting more popular. Drifting is far from dead too. People come and go from drifting as with any sports really.

Of course mondello keep all monies. As they should. It's a professional bussines. Decent track. Plenty marsh etc etc.
but how can a group run an event with out been able to first orginise practice sessions. I ended up just getting a bunch of mates together then ring wgh and got dates from them. €80 I think it was. More than enough track time to be fair.
Of course people come and go. And have other intrests.

I'm only on the scene lately but it's taken off around here. Even in the last 6 months it's gone from 1 or 2 lads with drift cars to at least 10.

On the other hand, a lot of these people have no real heed in their car and all it needs is to be RWD. But we're all only starting so we might have nice builds some day!

Apart from Mondello, theres nothing decent around here at all. Nutts Corner is average & lethal, Athboy is available but a touch small.

I think drifting is too expensive for the hacking that's happening. A grassroots practice day is about 300 quid. The entry fees are too much because of track prices. Look at drift land in uk can go drifting for about half the price. If that was sorted out then I think more practice days could be run. It's a bit of a vicious circle now, can't organise lots of WGH practice days because they won't all fill up. The more that one organiser runs the better they get at it and better the whole thing is run.

I broke my drift car and bought a kart because if I decide I want to on a Sunday morning I can just turn up at the track and pay 50 quid and drive it until I can't lift my arms. Too much assholing around to get a drift car out put it on trailer etc for the same of the short amount of track time at the practice day and when it comes down to competing it's whoever crosses the line first wins rather than from what I can see at idc where there is bad judgment calls ruining people's days out and again from what I can see short track time. I don't know but drifting is nearly more hassle than it's worth from a point of view of driving. Road cars are easier but the. You've got to weigh up is it worth the risk.

No it was wgh christmas eve i think . Some young wan was talking to a driver in the pit area just before the track . As in if you were next to go out . As the cars were moving up to go on track she somehow managed to get her leg caught under another car and had her leg broke . Think i got a whole 14 min of track time in total that day. You might have had good experience in one of 2 conditions 1 he already had the item in stock or 2 it wasnt actually him dealing with you it was one of his mates or mother . If u place an order with him you will never get it on time and you will have to chase him for weeks and he will keep forgetting about you . USELESS

I think Diarmuid is right, its becoming very expensive to do a drift day in ireland. From speaking to lads that have gone to drift events lately the amount of track time you get for the entry fee and transporting your car the guts of 170 miles etc it just isnt worth the hassle. I have a road car and its a good laugh when a few of us get together and do a bit of streeto but your constantly worrying about cops and locals reporting you etc. Not worth loosing your licence over. Iv thought about buyin a drift car over and over again but the scene in ireland just does not entice me to buy one. Drifting is ment to be fun and enjoyable not keeping it profitable and tryin to make a practice days like a round of formula drift!

Drifting is far from dead, it has just progressed at a rate nobody expected! It's very easy to become very disillusioned.

For example when i started just 8 years ago 535i's were king, if you had a 180sx with a s15 turbo you were the man! No such thing as getting remaps, top mount turbos, engine swaps or any of that racket! Parts were very limited, usually custom made!

Now it's gone to a stage that if you want to be half competitive it has to become part of your lifestyle. Your social life will suffer, your bank account will suffer, your mental health will suffer! It's very hard to be a casual drifter any more!

You hit the nail on the head here , driftings gone to a crazy level , it's possible to be competitive on a budget to be fair but when you see the scene progress the way it is you're going to want to upgrade too .... I was in pd a few years back when practice days didn't exist and it was my only way of learning , I came away from it simply because the funds weren't there to do what needed to be done to my car. Driftings far from dead though I head out for streeto with one of the lads down here and I love it , you just have to have a bit of cop on , don't be a handicap flat out doing rings on one crossroads all night , we go drifting properly and it means you're just passing through areas quickly and out of peoples way , and most people are just going doing just that instead of the expense of a proper drift day .... I still have the drift car outside and I'm just going to turn it into a road car because it makes more sense ..... I hope to be back In IDC next year but as with everyone it's all down to funds

P.D are a joke with in them selves. They have made some suspicious decisions in events ref judging. People around few years ago would remember this. Like last event at rose green final.
When talking about drifting I not talking about idiots calling them selves drifters on the roads. I talking about track and events.
