Good stuff ,great thing as it be handy if like me your not mechanically minded at all lol
:afro:
And Simon, who makes the tea. :D
It'll be great if the lads would make room for my car down at the shed, the dirty datsuns and datsun powered tin cans are all in the way.
I had no notions of doing PD in it when I bought it Ste. I was just going to chnage the wheels and enjoy it, but putting the 2 way in it and enjoying it on track kind of took over, a lot.
It's even been a removal van a couple of times. :D Feature it before it gets mangled up even more. Although I would rather if it was all the one colour if it was to get a feature.
you can rent out my garage if you want doofers blue car is in my garden already haha
you slag me now but i am very good at goin to the shop to help a brother out :P
Hey, there'll be no slagging. minions have to be kept sweet like. :D
These bad boys arrived this morning.......

So that means more lows.... but my HSD's are maxed out on rotating the shock into the cup so do I just drop the spring seat height now? Or will that fuck them up?
I know sweet fuck all, but when I messed about with presets (lowered it with the presets instead of lowering the actual shock) it made things a lot different. It shortens the stroke of the damper... I only drove it a little but it felt very bouncy... Would it not be like having cut springs?
I don't know, but may find out.
I did this today. Probably the hardest job I've ever had to do with a car for the amount of time it took. Just got to get it to John Stone now and it's cage time.

Got the car back today. The cage is awesome, amazing work by John Stone. Now just to get the rest of the safety gear and the car will be out for PD round two.

looking forward to seeing this in action at round 2!
Somewhere to drown the sorrows on the Saturday night.
cheers Simon, I'll give you a shout next weekend.
I don't know how much action the clutch will let me do, that and the track is a bit daunting, and excuse, excuse, excuse. :D
Best of luck fella, it'll be some sight to see :)
great work greg, cant wait to see it in action....
Haven't updated this lately, but it's more or less ready for PD round 2. Just got to fit the tow straps and find some way of getting rid of the steering lock. Just going to fire some pics up....

Looks savage man can't wait to see it in action
cage looks real well.
so does the rest of the car, good stuff greg!
So..... my first event went well. Did the practice day on the Friday which helped get the first briefing and attempt at the track nerves out of the way before the nerves of the competition aspect kicked in on the Saturday. :D I managed to link the track which was my main goal for the weekend, had a couple of spins, did a bit of twinning, realised the track wasn't as scary as I thought it would have been and generally got settled into the whole PD event atmosphere.
Getting stickered up with my sponsor sticker and PD stickers..

Qualifying on Saturday was a bit of a mess. Derk had trouble getting a tyre onto one of my 10j's because unbeknownst to him the tyre was fucked, so I had to run with whatever seconds were on my 7j's. Unfortunately they were fucked, and my first qualifying run was basically a sighting lap, which I didn't spin on, but fuck me, I was all over the place. The second run went a bit better after I let a shit load of air out of the tyres, and even with delamination occurring I got a solid run in and managed to qualify in 42nd place in the ama/semi pro category, and 15th in ama, which netted me 2 championship points. :D
A couple of shots from qualifying...

As a part of Team Drift Shed, we had decided on Friday that we would do the team drift if it was on, luckily it was, and we got the chance to drive in the big show on the Sunday. So, at my first ever PD event I was throwing myself into a drift train with a "it'll be grand" attitude, and had a fucking ball. :D I spun on the two qualifying laps and fucked it up for the lads, but... it was amazing, no stress or pressure, just get out there, drive like stink with three mates, and run a few walls. :afro:
Team drift shots...

What I learnt at the weekend was that, basically, the car is too low, too big, too heavy, I need decent tyres, alignment wouldn't hurt, and the stupid amount of camber on the rear doesnt aid grip levels whatsoever. I don't really care though because the car looked cool and the whole event was amazing. I'll throw up a few videos once I get them uploaded. Crap, that turned out to be quite a long post, sorry about that.
Oh, a big shout out to everybody that helped out the weekend, I'd have been lost without you. And a big shout out to all the media who came out and gave the ama and semi pro guys some attention, we all love it. Cheers.
Cool snaps Greg some smoke machine!!
I have to admit this is one my favorite car's on di. from polished cruiser to battle scared drift machine it just looks so awesome in the flesh
Is there enough clearence arch wise to get the rear camber to 0 degrees for even wear?? I know nothing about geometry setup so this could be a completely wrong way for setting up a car.
There is no clearance, the arches are taking a hammering as it is and that's running 225/40's.
Thanks for the comments. :)
You may get some subtle overfenders (dont go to mad on them) Jun style is nice and get the camber sorted, From my experience a well set up suspension is as good as 50+bhp!! IMO, nothing as bad as a front sliding all over the place or shocks been to soft and bouncing and hopping round on ya,
Hahaha for example this is ridiculous but so good at the same time :)
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...28820745_n.jpg
Haha it is functionally ridiculous but aesthetically it is sex! Came over for a snoop round her on the Sunday, the car has serious presence. And as the lads say it's cool to see I car that's been through all the stages from cruising and hard parking to running the wall. Fair play Greg.
Surprisingly I get no understeer but I definitely have to sort out the rear camber. Although upper camber arms for my car are like €700.
looks the business skiddin greg, did you get the chance to put it into into 3rd? thought the camber would give you more grip when youre sideways. didnt make it down at all over the weekend, wouldve liked to have seen how you got on. glad you had a buzz.
No need for 3rd, and the car wouldn't pull it anyway. :) Only about 30% of the tyre was being worn during the runs, while everybody else had nice evenly worn tyres. Most of the pro's seem to run a bit of positive camber, so I would like to try that at some stage, but then the car will probably be wanting for more power. I think I'm going to try really sticky tyres on the rear at Fermoy and see what it's like then.
Cheers, Kev, take a spin down to Fermoy next month.
I dont know the answer to this question but while looking for suspension parts for the Altezza I found that a lot of the JZX100 stuff was interchangeable, make sure rear camber arms like Megan arent the same because thats the stuff I'm going for, there all metal at the end of the day, if you feel there not up to strength you can always get lads to weld in support beams or whatever, no point forking out nearly 1k for bit of steel and rose joints like, thats my opinion anyway............!!! haha :afro::afro:
spend the extra bit where its needed in the engine etc, metal can be welded again.
I think it's just the front arms that are interchangeable, but if anybody has Altezza parts lying about that I could try on the car that would be handy. Surely somebody in the country could make arms for not crazy money?
im not 100% sure but i think i remember rab from powermax engineering talking about making some arms for an older chaser jzx81 maybe. might be worth looking into
they are located in cookstown co tyrone
hey Greg jus a wee message bout punches, thgt you were flyin man and really givin that yoke the death well done and best of luck :)
