Say there was a bulb in that side at one stage that was too high a temp and distorted the finish on the glass with the heat!
You'd prob sort that from the inside if you split the lamp via the oven way of doing it!
I wouldnt be gentle enough to do something like that myself!

sound , will whip it off tomorrow and get a better look to see how hard it would be to remove the front part..
