spliting rays 2piece wheels???

i want to split my rays wheels to respray the centers and have a few questions about how to go about this


1 is there a special tool to remove the small bolts that hold the two pieces together, the nut on the back is fine its just a regular nut but the bolt has a funky multipoint head, i tryed using a pliers to hold them but they kept slipping and i was only damaging them, so if anyone has done this before how did you do it?? is there a special tool if so where do i get one

2 assuming i get these apart is there a torque for the above mentioned studs upon refiting, if so what is the torque?

3 would regular automotive paint do for sprayin these or would i want to get these powder coated?

the front is a 12 point spanner

you just need the multisided socket , u should get one to fit perfect on the bolts...
yep you have to torque them up properly , dont dog them or they will shear an break...
if your lookin for a perfect finish , id recommend you drop them to the wheel doctor he does a super job on wheels.. he would actually do the lot , split em spray em an stick em back together for ya...
even stick the tyres back on for ya an all...
usually around 75 per wheel he charges , but does great work...

park tyres in tuam will split the rims for you, i painted a set for the manager in there 2years ago in fact the exact same set as your own! centre's were painted white.
he split a few sets since for friends and some customers.

Some companys weld the joint after they put the rim togeather like SSR old school wheels

i split my wheels as one was leaking its nothing to taking them off but ill give you some pointers.

when all the nuts and bolts are out give them a good going over with a wire brush to clean the threads, and put the nut back on the bolt and tighten it right up the bolt to the head. youll noitice or i did anyway, that it takes serious effort to tighten up and this could affect how tight the peices are held together,

spend alot of time cleaning the old silicone off the wheels start with a stanley knife blade, and then rub with a scrub, this is to get ready for the new bead to seal the peices properly.

as for sicilone i used tiger seal to seal mine back up but TBH i found it very heavy for the work. regular clear silicone should be grand,

and i just tightened mine up to the last thats about 2 months ago and no sheering of bolts or that yet, id say its safe to do the same.

my ssr agle minervas, supposedly 3 piece I THINK were welded from factory.
