View Full Version : Good Luggage Crew - Turbo Eunos Roadster NA
Glad to see your keeping it man but on another note:
the good thing about the na6ce engine if they blow is that they can be picked up for £250 from England and if you get the right carrier it'll work out at £350, lads over here are looking over €600 yo yo's for one.
Good man! Hope you get a decent spin out of it!!

I know this is probably the last thing you wanna hear but tomorrow is another day and it probably won't seem as hopeless. I know how it can feel when you can't fix one thing on the car without something else breaking and it becomes an endless cycle but at the end of it all I kinda wonder what I would be without my car, it would be like chopping off my right hand!
The car is so cool and after all the work youve put into it give it another chance :)
chin up brian... i know its hard but you took a big gamble veering away from the common as fuck s-body and imo have one of the coolest sliders in the country and as i was sayin to so many people in ennis when u get the hang of that car ya'll be a serious contender as the car is so fast comin out of the bends...
keep the head up man and make this a winner....
sorry to hear that brian
my advice would be just forget about
the car for a week or two
hit fermoy the weekend,get wasted,have the craic:afro:
next week get some personal stuff sorted,
it'll all come together.
there's loads of sound lad's on here more than willing to
give a hand to get the car sorted
it's surprising what a break from something can do for the head:wink:
mickl you couldn't off said it better best thing to do is walk away and come back in time this is most definitely up in the coolest cars in pro-drift this year and i would like to see you right true the year chin up man it will work out :cool:
brian take a step bak for a week buddy!!!! when it comes 2 problems and hartship in this game many of us know hw hard it is but don't make a quick decision that you may regret later!!!! you knew it was never goin to be easy and it hasen't but i honestly feel its worth it and der are not many people that would be able to drive the car even half as well with a full sesion under der belt!!! stay wit it dude!!! any help that i can give you have my number!!
firstly have to say , im on this forum a good while now , and theres always been alot of support on this forum but this thread just opened my eyes to how decent every one is in supporting people this is one step further i think with this support behind you you shouldnt give up completely just stand back for a month maybe 2 or even 6 and come ack with a clear head , you have unreal support and freinds here dont give up yet .... and i think this weekends a good choice ;);) good luck
Gonna take it to fermoy. It may blow up going onto the trailer, or on the start line, or give me just enough to do a lap or even the whole weekend, who knows. But if its fecked its fecked anyway so what difference does it really make.
That's half the fun of it :)
And if it does die in Fermoy that leaves more beer time ;)
Best of luck!
Go for it lad and i even hope to see this wee machine in punchstown but what ever ya do dont break it even if she blows up hold it and when ever ya get a bit of money together give her a heart transplant but you will defently regret if u break it or sell it sure look at your build thread that tell the story
Plans in action, good good plans;)
Plans in action, good good plans;)
Epic dream plans lol, but far from in action!
Atleast prosponed anyway, because by some absolute unexplainable miracle.....the car has maybe fiixed itself lol! Knocking noise possibly gone or certainly alot lot quieter. Shit just got optimistic!!
Waaaaaaay! Good shit lad
Well....what a weekend basically!
After the lows and not sure whether to stay going with it, a great weekend of drifting was just what I needed. I said a few pages back that I needed to get to the top32, and so delighted I managed that.
Lot of work was done to get the car there, we didnt know would it last a lap or the weekend. In the end it performed almost perfectly.
Few issues as per usual. Brake pads didnt come in time, so had no real front brakes for alot of it, which was especially interesting in the team drift carnage lol!
Clutch let me down again big time also. Wouldnt allow me to go into 3rd without it slipping. So had to just keep it and abuse it in 2nd. First time I tried this was qualifying, and it actually worked out pretty mint. Clutch kicks were not happening either so had to try and make sure I stayed in the power band (which isnt that much!).
So practice didnt go great as per usual. Got 6 laps. Some great advice from Mike Fitz to soften the rear and up the tyre pressure a bit helped alot for the last 2 laps.
Qualifying came, and the first run went pretty well. It wasnt the most spectacular to be fair, and I didnt scrape the walls etc, but it was pretty solid and got me a 53.8 I think. This put me in first at the time lol, and after the first round of qualifying I was surprised to find I was still quite high up the list.
2nd lap I decided to really go for it, got close to the tyres and the wall I think but messed up the end of the track, as got the lines wrong and had to straighten a bit.
Nervous wait then but got 19th and we were all delighted. Had only brought the two tyres on the car, plus 2 wheels and tyres from a mates car, so that started to become a worry lol!
Top32. Was facing Trevor Murphy in his immaculate Mcnsport SR86. Was funny to see my shed built, rough looking bucket face up against a car built my arguably the best in this country to the highest standard.
I took off behind him, but he left me a little bit from the line with his power. Had never twinned before (well once against Peter T in Portlaois), and the plumes of smoke were something I had never had to deal with before. Did ok up to the tight clip past the long wall, but after that I tried to close the gap a bit, went to shallow and completely messed up my line. I spun. Was properly sick with myself.
Went out for the second run, and did by far my best of the weekend. Was right on nearly all the clips I think, probably cause I was so pissed off I wasnt even thinking lol! Trev did a good run by all accounts behind aswell, and that was all that was needed from him anyway. Fairplay to him, and it was a pity he had some problems in the next round.
Bit of a mad night sat as per usual.....
Sunday I was stired from the hostel by the staff, and made it to the track around half 12 or 1 I'd say. Team drift practice was on and I suddenly got a call to say there was a space free on the Just Jap team. I sprinted to the car, threw on the race suit, flew down to the line and straight out. Was absolute carnage, and we were all over the shop.....but I also had some great craic and never had so many close calls lol! Big thanks to Bart for letting me join their team, and having never battled before the weekend, to suddenly try and stay close to 3 lunatics was a great experience. We nearly had 1 good lap in practice where we all spun at the far clip, the rest were a mess to be fair, but hopefully ppl got a laugh out of it if nothing else, and I am 100% gonna do it again in Punchestown. Gonna try and sort out a team this week, as this is now unmissable in my eyes! Eoin O Sullivan you're up I hope? Would love to try and get Pat and Sean if they'd have us aswell, although the way they're going they probably be too busy on the sunday anyway!
All in all a great weekend, and decisions still need to be made about the route for the car. Need to be able to grab 3rd in Punch so thats the big issue. But if I can do that then the track might suit the mx I think and who knows what might happen....
Sorry for the long essay report, but I may not get a good chance to report on something actually good happening again lol, so I thought I may aswell milk it haha!! Thanks to all the support this week and over the weekend from everyone, and especially from my mechanic/spotter Paddy "Job" Brennan, Dave "dickhead" Egan, Eddie Power and Will Creighton. Roll on RD3 big sthyle!!!!:D
epic turnaround glad you enjoyed yourself and got some battle xp, paddle clutch nxt round here you come (^_^)b
So what's the story with the engine??!!
And get yourself a paddle clutch, I got a stage 2 exeedy off one of the site sponsors for a good price, check it out.
Engine could be fine tbh. Will stay goin as is anyway. If it goes then I'll look at the other options and have a good discussion. No time to start messing about before punch anyway.
The clutch I bought and just put in was an excedy 3 puk, cost about e350 and is a stage 2 AFAIR. Have spotted a good ACT 6 puk clutch in the states capable of 340 lbs of torque supposedly, but not sure if it would be here in time and didnt really want to spend more money on the same setup. But may just have to. Finding out on transit time hopefully today

Oh shit!! So I'm fucked too so!!
Is the engine still knocking or has it stopped? And have you figured out the source??

It does sound like you got a similar exedy tbh, but sure you never know it could be fine.
The knocking has stopped yes. It may just have been from sitting up since the fire, or maybe it sucked in something, or I dont know what tbh! But for the weekend it seemed fine, no knocking as far as I could tell and power seemed fine. Got a driftworks power steering cooler kit which we didnt get time to fit. The blue smoke seen on idle when lining up if anyone saw it I think was due to one of the pipes leaking. Only happened now and again, or it could be something else of course.....
Was delighted for ya every time I saw the mx bate out from behind the building!
Some savage ones, I recall one where we were trying to see if the tyres had bent ur exhaust!

Feckin hell I forgot to thank you Kaleb in my post!
So a massive thanks also to towing hero supreme Kaleb for bringing me there and back. Wouldnt have even been able to attempt the event without him! Laughs were had and lets hope Punch is even better!
Love this car! Fast little fecker of a thing! Fair brave to do team drift aswell in it the last day :D
Well I never actually updated this after round 4 punchestown.
Basic synopsis would be, clutch still shit, couldnt go from 2nd back up to 3rd while drifting, so just tried to stay in 2nd after the infield and give it death. It actually didnt work out too badly, but prevented me getting out as wide as I wanted to through the last corner.
1st qualifying run I straightened a bit, as otherwise I was going to spin. It had rained a bit and that kind of caught me out. Got a 44, whihc I knew wouldnt be good enough.
So pressure was on for the second run to get a score, and I did a pretty good run. Very happy with the whole first half of the lap, just as I said I couldnt get out as wide as I wanted for the second half sadly. Got me a 60.5, which was good enough for 17th. Was happy out. Heres the run:
YouTube - ‪Pd round 3‬‏ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZcIUblP9AE&feature=youtu.be)
Top 32 I went up against Thomas Falvey in his yellow S13. Sadly on our practice lap, it seemed like Thomas just went in to hard, got his line wrong, and ended up in the tyres. I was following him and just managed to get away with going backwards into them lightly enough. The first run was going pretty well, and I was close enough, but then something must have gone in Thomas' car or something as he straightened and then didnt finish the rest of the track. Waited for a 5 minute rule and was then told I'd won. Not the way I would have liked, and felt bad for Thomas to get knocked out that way.
My exhaust was fairly broken at this stage and hanging down. Back slam panel was broke, but really nothing major so was looking forward to the next battle.
Top16 and Duane McKeever. Not the easiest draw lol, and I instantly regretted not having a roof. I knew in a straight fight he'd beat me in punch, as I'd have to go shallower than him, and the judges had said this would be an instant loss of run practically. So I said I'd just try and go as aggresive as possible. But he left me off the line and all I could see was smoke coming into first clip. Went too shallow and was a good bit off the wall, but it meant I caught up on him. Stayed with him through the infield, and then I saw a bit of a gap and tried to go past him on the tight right hander. But he shot right up beside me and I knew I had to pull out as I was in the wrong. Game over!
Second run I got way too much angle, car seemed to jump over a bump or something (possible exhaust related) and when it landed I got launched into a 360! Just saw wall, Mckeever, TYRES lol!!!:D Luckily managed to stop it in time (my front brakes generally dont work at the end of a run, but do at the start?, which can be very scary btw, still yet to figure this out). Did no damage, except to my pride maybe, but atleast got to then watch some excellent drifting from everyone else. Had a great event all in and its another step in the right direction.
Looking forward to round 4, although I dont think it will really suit me. The main requirements seem like lots of lock and a good clutch.......so I may struggle but atleast its flat lol!:D
Getting more and more dirty thoughts by the day about what to build for next year though.......
Again thanks to all the lads for their help, the usual suspects Paddy Brennan, Will Creighton, Eddie Power, Dave Egan and Paddy Macken, and also to Derk who got me some much needed tyres, Timmy for a turbo gasket (although I ended up not using it), and all the other drivers, fans, pros etc for their advice and support over the weekend. Much appreciated as per usual!!!!
I must admit i severly doubted that this car could work competatively but im delighted to say you proved me wrong:)
Not only is it competative but your level of driving is serious considering this is your first year competing and making top 16 plus developing a car of unknown territory.
Can only get better from here on in onwards and upwards dude!
PD round 4 was a disaster, but I just wanted to post up thanking everyone who came to my rescue and tried to get me out there. Paul Murphy, Robbie Daly, Chucky, Timmy (twailbait), Dan Moorehead, Paddy Brennan obviously, Allen Recovery (again) and loads loads more. Really really appreciated it and great to see that sort of help in the community!
Sadly things didnt work out, and although I managed to get out just in time for my second qualifying run, I didnt get time to change my bald R888s or fix my roof so I got absolutely soaked!!:( Will try and patch the car up for the last round, doubt I'll do anymore days untill then (athough team drift round is very tempting), and then see what the story is for next year. Alot of thinking and discussions needed......
Have you plans to compete in another car next year or will you stick with the slut?

thats what I need to decide and think about. I should know more maybe in the next week or two, and will have a proper plan by september anyway as thats when I'll know my full work/wages situation for the next year. I know what I want to do, but money will decide it at the end of the day...

Well never thought id agree with you but fairplay for doing it different and not givin up on it.
Kudos for havin the balls to try drift something thats not as easy as an s-body.
Right so just thought I'd post this as a bit of a heads up. I'll be breaking alot of the car after the last round in september (if theres anything left to break lol!). Engine (rebuilt not so long ago), turbo kit, megasquirt, injectors etc etc. Basically you could buy the whole lot and it would already be mapped then for 236bhp, which would be alot in a road car! T25 turbo is on its way out though, so I'd recommend just slotting a fresher version on.
Wheels, Tein coilovers, drivetrain including the Excedy heavy duty clutch, front lip, seats, and loads of other bits. So just a heads up for anyone in the market or thinking of going that route to maybe save up or keep it in mind.
Cant guarantee I'll be breaking those parts, but 80% sure. Prices will be pretty good value imo.

How much would u be lookin for the coilovers front lip and lock knuckles?
How much would u be lookin for the coilovers front lip and lock knuckles?
Coilovers 200 anyway. Front lip I wouldnt be 100% I'm selling it, and its not 100% anyway, but I'd imagine about 60 quid? Dont plan on selling the extra lock knuckles for the moment, unless we come up with a different or better alternative. They stand me quite alot anyway so wouldnt be too cheap tbh.
What route you planning to go for next season? Hope your keeping the 5!
What route you planning to go for next season? Hope your keeping the 5!
Have a plan, but gonna keep it underwraps till atleast some concrete plans are made. Pie in the sky stuff really at the moment, but I will be keeping the 5 anyway....I'd say
Im sure Ill take a few bits off you! When you do decide to break it give me a call first! You have my no.
I could probably guess what way your going to go with it, maybe an alternative from the mazda factory! Anything other than that will be a pain in the arse hole, on acount of the front mounted steering rack that the mazda's use!
Cant wait to hear your plans anyways!
and as I said, call me for first dibs on stuff!!

No bother Timmy, I'll give ya a shout closer to the time, or I'm sure I'll be chatting to you at Japfest anyway if you're there.
Whatever I'll be doing I just want to do it 100% properly this time. Very hard to gradually change a road car to a drift car and not have small problems here and there. So a full ground up build that might last me a few years, and be hopefully able to compete near the top if I ever get good enough is what I'm aiming at. Plus I want to try and finally make the car look 100% how I want. So I'm probably looking at a stupid amount of money, and just need to see whether thats possible or not first, or if any sponsors would be interested etc. I should just sell everything, buy Nick Quelys car or similar, and actually find out if I'm in anyway good enough lol!! But after alot of discussions I decided this would be the better approach for me for a few reasons.
Firstly even if I fail, atleast I'll have hopefully built a car I'd truelly love, rather than just something I want to compete in and that gives me the best chance. That might seem stupid to some ppl, but probably makes sense to alot of others too.
And secondly, if by some miracle I could pull it off, and end up doing well, well then it will get me alot more notice, and probably alot more opportunities etc. So it would really be an all or nothing gamble for me at drifting, and if it fails then I'll just have to look at some other form of motorsport lol!!:D
I hope your doing what you told me in mondello dude !!
It'd be epic on a whole other level...

There Savage i had Dave,s old Skyline, even the bumper with the stickers are bang on
Any idea if ur plan to break the eunos to start ur revamp is happening im tryn to find a set of coilovers
Started on it last weekend. Rad, front mount, power steering cooler taken off. Hoping to try and get the lend of an engine crane somewhere and get the engine out this weekend. I still need it rolling though to bring it somewhere, so not sure if I can sell the coilovers and wheels etc immediately.
We still have no internet in the new house, which should be sorted early next week so then I can start throwing up a thread and pics for anyone interested. Could be a very good chance for someone who wants 236bhp proven in their mx to do it on the cheap! I've had problems this year, but mostly down to ourselves. The rebuilt engine hasnt missed a beat. Turbos not in great shape though so I'd recommend a replacement T25 for anyone who purchases.
