Hey guys, im building my first drift car for prodrift.

Firstly id like to thank everyone who helped me with this project :D you all know who you are and i couldnt have done it without yea.

I got my hands on a 94 180sx jap jeg'd bare shell to build as my drift car and a s13 200sx for parts. The s13 200sx was eaten with rust and the ca18 that was in it had a rattle in the bottom end.

I got my hands on an sr20 for great money, there was no point in rebuilding the ca18 as ill have better power with the sr20 anyway.

Iv started this build a few months ago and is i work full time in a call centre i only get to work on it on evenings and weekends.

Firstly, heres pics of the 180sx as it was when i got it. The car was looking in a very sad state and it i knew straight away ''i have alot of work ahead of me!!!''

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/101_3123.jpg

And heres a few pics of the s13 200sx The 200sx was only good for parts like runnin gear, pannels, subframes etc so it was pointless in using it as the track car as it would take too much money to get everything sorted.

The 180sx shell had to be moved to another shed, i didnt fancy liftin it with a forklift so the only way to get the car from one workshop to the other was to fit the rear subframe from the 200sx into the 180sx and put go-jacks under the front chassis

With a few mates to help out, the car found its way into its new home

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/101_3145.jpg

I also got a matt black FMIC with the piping from the same lad

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/FMIC.jpg
http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/dumpvalve.jpg

These were thrown in with the car

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/101_3144.jpg

I also sprayed the anti roll bar just to see what it would look like, dont worry i will be getting adj arms for the car

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/101_3403.jpg

These arrived from driftworks, the 4 to 5 wheel stud converters and the steering bush, i was also excited to see a wham bar in the box when it arrived

To take the dull luck off the engine bay me an a few lads decided that the engine bay should be sprayed.

So we decided on Kawasaki green.

It doesnt look too bad but its gonna be done again once the wiring is sorted.

lack of a ramp ment that the car had to be moved to a different garage so i could work under the car.

lack of man power meant that the only way to get the car onto the trailer was with a forklift:eek:

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/P100706_194119.jpg

Thats all the pics i have of it for the moment, the car is nearly ready to start but there is a slight issue that the uk and jap looms wont work together, i have a few spare looms to try sort it out but if that fails then ill need to get a new loom.

Ill have more updates to follow soon.

i only got to read the first page of the original thread. hopefully now people have the common sense to realise this is a bare shell project and is a long way from finished so it is very much on track considering the short time spent on it so far so looking rough is a stage it has to be at before its looking class.

Also got my 5 point harness

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/101_3951.jpg

And i decided it was time to fit the exhaust, downpipe from Gem, decat from Jay (cheers for that lads)

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/101_3953.jpg

Fitted the exhaust and then sorted out the oil return from the turbo to the engine and blead the clutch. Then with a jump start from Vicky (my vectra lol) she fired up.

I still dont have the brakes connected up but i took the car for a drive around the yard and used the handbrake to stop it. Im fuckin delighted that the car starts, runs and drives.

Now the real fun begins :D:D:D

It has been a while since there has been an update but iv been doing a few small bits to the car.

Ill have the car in a garage over the weekend and ill be sorting as much of the can as i can. Im hoping that the car's gonna be fully sorted mechanically this weekend.

I did pick up a free Uras rear bumper over the weekend. The bumper needs a few small bit of work as theres a few cracks in it........and the fact that the bumper wouldnt fit in the vectra so i cut a part of the bumper so i could close the boot ha ha :D Cheers to alan opel for pickin it up for me, and makin the bumper fit in the boot;)

I fitted the rear links for the anti roll bar and gaskets to the exhaust and it doesnt blow anymore where the exhaust sections meet up. There's a nice sound of the Blitz nur spec:D

However the car is idling from 1500rpm-2000rpm and keeps doing this:confused:. Its also quite smokey and i reckon that the MAF is fucked so ill see how this goes by swapping it for one that does work and see if she's any better. If it needs to be replaced ill be getting a z32 MAF.

Here's a video of it running a bit smokey, prob also worth mentioning that the lambda sensor isnt attached.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viCGs0C3yNw

And a pic of how smokey the garage was after i switched off the car:o.

Update time

Worked fairly hard over the last few days to get the car ready for portlaoise. One of the things that i needed to do has move the hydro as where i mounted it wasnt great.

Had the car up with the good luggage crew and they helped me to bleed the brakes and fit a new water pump

Then after i was finished there i headed off to get the cage fitted. I was very happy with how the cage turned out :D

After i got the car home i had to do an oil change, change the half shaft and a few other bits.

Finished up at 3:20 on saturday night and was then up at 7 on sunday morning. I had the car ready to go up onto the trailer and my brother fitted the front bumper

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/180sx%20drift%20car%20build/DSC_0126.jpg

Rite where to start????

The weekend was a pure disaster for me, the waterpump was leaking fairly bad so a trip to Bradshaws was needed to get some radweld to seal it up, worked like a charm :D

Then the battery was fucked so I had to keep jump startin the 180sx so enough was enough and I had to head back to Bradshaws to buy a battery. Fitted that and then the starter motor started to pack it in

Every practice session I spun out and I couldnt control the car at all and there was also an air lock in the hydro so it wouldnt lock without a good tug.

Fast forward a few hours later and im havin a drunkin conversation with Dan Moorhead (During this Chuck feeds me some of his chest hair to give me some extra talent :o) and Dan agrees to take my car for a spin.

Woke up the next morning at 10am and me, Pete and Willis leg it out of the hotel and I have to get a lift in Pete's Skyline to the track. Again practice is bollox for me as I had no car control, At this point Dan takes the car off me and he couldnt slide the car. His exact words are "There is something HORRENDOUSLY wrong with your car, something is falling out of the steering!!"

We pull off the front wheels and the tie rod was loose as fuck, so in come Kaleb and Paddy Brennan to fix the car and beat the shite out of the bump stops to give me extra lock. The next time I had the car out and (for obvious reasons) the car handeled so much better but alas I was still shite.

My car needs a serious amount of work before I even consider doing another drift day (i broke one of the FMIC mounts) so by the looks of things due to a lack of funds the car aint gonna see the track again for a long time :(

Thanks to everyone for the help over the weekend and well done to everyone who took part and as for the Just Jap gang, congratulations on organising an epic weekend :D

Took the car for a drive on Sunday, car wont drive in a straight line as the tracking is all over the place and  the Turbo is fucked, the oil seals are gone in it. Its a T25 of a CA18 so im gonna replace it with a T28 of a s14 (maybe a T28BB)

I was really annoyed about this and is seamed like one thing after another went wrong so I considered breaking it :( but the lads on FB convinced me to stick with it. Thanks lads.

Iv booked a week off work so I can purely focus on sorting this car out ;) Ill be in a garage in Lucan from Friday to the following Sunday working on this. Ill have two mechanics with me to give me a hand with it :D The plans are to strip the car back to a bare shell again, give the shell a good clean and weld in plates to seal off the A/C holes in the bulk head. Ill be getting the Just Jap xtra lock :D and we might have a go at tubbing the rear arches (depending on time as we only have 10 days )

Would taping over the holes in the bulkhead not do lad??

Also, don't go ripping the car apart unless you really have too.. Just concentrate on the basics, way too many lads get tied up in big builds and thinking they need adjustable everything etc.. My 14 done me grand in PL the last day with only coilovers and a welded diff.. IMO you don't need any extra lock or anything yet, get what you have tracked and working right and get the better of that set up first ;)

I really wouldn't go pulling the entire car apart, get it tracked and with some spacers on the rack and the lock stops ground down you'll have plenty of lock.

Spend the rest of the time fiddling with the turbo and getting it running right, then tidy it up a bit or at least give it a lick of paint as I'm not really diggin the green/two tone/black thing :D

For the likes of the practice days your current setup is enough, just get it set up right

Get it running right and tracked you don't even need to go to wez to get it aligned to race spec or whatever just go with the standard settings and that will save you a few quid starting off.

@darragh green/black theme is where it is at this year ;-)

There is fumes and serious heat coming in through the holes, i kinda wanna block them up for good. Tubbin the arches will be last on the list as it isnt important

what i did with my car was we just cut the ends that screw in off the AC pipes. but head of a bolt in it and tiger sealed it. and nothing can get in.. and it even looks tidy..

IMO you don't need any extra lock or anything yet, get what you have tracked and working right and get the better of that set up first ;)

the above is bang on joe!!!! ur putting way to much taught into all this!!!
the car was running and pulling wel so put on another turbo, a set of good coilovers and get the car set up properly!!!! you don't need nutty mods and at the end of the day every single shell should be treated as "disposable" which means putting massive fab work into a shell at some point it will all go dwn the toilet!!! im not saying that putting massive work into a shell doesn't serve a purpose but one wall and that work means nothing!!
a few bolt on mods and ur car will fly lad!!

Well lads i havnt updated this in a while.

Not alot has been done to this since i had it out last. Iv moved out of my parents house and am now living in sin with my girlfriend in Dublin.

What i did manage to get around to is do the tracking on the front, which turned out to be miles out. We sorted that so i should be able to control the car when im trying to slide it, as not even Dan Moorhead could slide it in portlaoise it was so badly set up.

I was also changing the oil and i noticed a few small bits if metal in the oil. Now the engine isnt knocking and is running grand, it could be nothing or it could be bad. Im gonna drive this till she dies anyway and worry about it then.

I bought the subframe from Mike Fitz's Sileighty as it had solid bushes in it so the rear will be as solid as can be.

Ill update this again when i have some pictures and some decient work done.

Cheers to everyone for the help. Maybe ill enter PD 2012 with it :D

Sorry about the lack of updates guys, hopefully ill have something decient over the next few weeks. The evenings are getting longer and iv use of a garage and ramp at the weekends to ill be able to a few extra bits.

One update I have is that the car will finally be painted, its gonna be white for the short while but iv a few colours in mind (Magenta and Turquoise are the main colours) but its gonna be a rattle can job as iv no access to a spray gun :(

Well guys I'm sorry to say that I kinda gave up on this one. It was a combination of a few things really.

1. The drift comp in Portlaoise went awful as the car wasn't set up correctly.
2. Working late and living too far away from where the car is stored and it being too dark to see what I'm doing.
3. Stripping the car and building it again would make me feel that I'm working backwards and the last year+ was a total waste of time.

So (and I'll get alot of abuse for this) iv decided to start again
I stripped the car of what I needed to build another car.

A couple of late nights in my girlfriends garage and out everything came.

Car was loaded up and ready to be delivered to the new owner.

And that's how she sits now, ready for the new owner to do something magical with her.

She was my first rwd car, she sat in the corner of Japanise Performance before Will_c bought it and it sat in the corner of his shed before I brought it back to life (and also started a build thread that annoyed Rob Daly). I did learn alot wit her and will know what to do and what not to do in future (like run 15" on the front and 17" on the back:o)

The next car will look a whole lot cleaner as the multi colour of the 180sx was kind of an eyesore :o

The car iv chosen is one alot of people will know.

I'm looking forward to this already.

Thanks to everyone that helped me with this build.
