Can someone explain exactly what everything means

For example,

18x9 +25

18 is diameter of wheel, and 9 is wheel width

25 offset is what, how far out the wheel comes from were the its attached to the hub??

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Rims-Sit-Size-Offs-t190490.html&st=40

I want something like esky mads stance, see his 1st post, what wheel size should I be looking for? Ive never seen +11 offset?

in your example, 18x9 et +25
18 in the diameter, and 9 is the width as you say.
the width is messured from the inside of the wheel, where the bead of the tyre sits on each side.

offset is the amount in mm that the mounting face of the back of the wheel is offset from the centre of the wheel.

so on a 9" wheel, offset zero would mean the back of the hub is exactly 4.5" from both edges of the wheel.

a positive offset is where the hub is towards the front of the wheel pushing the barrel in to the arch (less dish)

negative is where the hub is towards the back of the wheel pushing the barrel out of the arch (more dish)

low offset or better yet, negative offset is best for deep dish wheels for serious stance.

and just to ad, adding spacers lowers the offset by whatever thickness the spacer is.

so for a wheel with dish i want low offset....... for serious stance,

and for good stance on a non-dished wheel (ie. rota torques) id want a high positive offset??

If my wheels is rubbing my coilover on the front it means the wheel is too wide or the offset is too high?? Its a deepdish wheel!

offset enough said lol 18x10.5j +24 on rear but disk type comes into the equation with these rims which is depth really

thats not what i meant, i meant if you take a standard wheel and imagine the barrel and the centre are movable. zero offset would have the hub mounting face inline with the centre line of the wheel.
no if you where to leave the centre where it was in relation to the car, and pull the barrell out towards you creating dish (or more dish) this is negative offset,

pushing the barrel in eliminating dish increases the offset.

just because you have dish doesnt mean you have negative offset. it depends on the width of the wheel.

alternatively, if you have no dish, that doesnt automatically mean you have a huge high offset.

but as a general rule, low and negative offset = dish
high positive offset = no dish.

weak:p

Panch, my rears are 18x10 +11 !

You want a smaller offset number on every type of wheel, dished or not!

oops, ha, forgot to mention that last night.
i was bolloxed, but yeah. low/negative offsets dished or not is best.

Can I actually make an intelligent suggestion for once? An Offset thread. There is one on another site Im on, fair enough its a JZX only site but even still, there isnt a huge amount of unusual cars on here.... I found it much easier to understand offset as the pictures just made more sense.

List Car, and model. Wheel specs (size, width offset, tyre size even) and any other info like rolled/flared/wider arches and the sizes. Proper info only no shite.

Infact i'm gonna go start one, but seriously it would need to be info only, not 400 OMG that is like sooooo nice, what is that tree in the background i think its carniferous ye kneow blah blah blah replies like the WAG thread!!

i've a couple of sets of wheels in the workshop, i'll try get some pics to show comparisons over the weekend,
standard s14 wheels, a set of 18x10's with high offset and my new wheels that are 8's with offset 10.

should show a nice comparison.
