First off, since day one ive been planning to thank every single person who has made an effort to help me, and to be honest if i did that not only would it take up about 10 pages, but id end up missing out many people.

if you helped me I'm ever so greatful! no matter how small it was, it all went towards me researching, asking questions, being tought, learning, knowing where i went wrong, knowing what to do in future etc etc etc.

People have put up with me for a very long time, asking 1,000,000 questions.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! I can remember every bit of help i got.

You have all contributed to me buying my first car... ever... at 17.
As its my first car ive not really known what to expect, If im honest i know a lot about s-bodies, (in theory) and now that i own one its a new experience, I realise know fuck all when it comes to 'hands on' tinkering/knowlegde of the car. which i find good.

Ive already got plans for it and i predict i can move fast at transforming it into a "anti-christ of a yoke" :L HAHA.... not really.. the hell with civic's, bora's, golf's, and glanza's.
180's FTW!

I love the way i can use the forum as such a great base for tech info and help! It's brilliant! I can finnaly use the forum to its potential !!! ;)

Oh! and some one please inform other new-er members of what ive been like the past 18 months :D

anyways....

This is my '97 180sx (as half the country already knows it)

Ah shite, have you the front wings on then??

If you can have them off, then move the loom. I don't believe it requires any work as such, just move it out of the arch and above it and cable tie it in, saves damaging it if you go really low. Its on my to-do list when I ever take the wings off!!

Good start man, its like a blank canvas as such. Best way to start. And your only 17 so you have plenty of time to make it pretty :)

Best of luck with it

UPDATE

Ok so after having the car the past few days i have established where i stand in relation to its condition and what needs to be done to sort it out/ fix it up / tidy it up / use it.

Here are a few things ive spotted around the car, basically things that can be done to get it up to standard before I start messing around with it too much, hopefully i can source any odd's and end's.

Current State...

Found this at the pedals when i got it (along with a load of other wires which where quickly shoved back up under the dash)

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x164/w00tmynameisThomas/My%20first%20car/DSC02418.jpg

Dont have a clue how to sort out these...

General Closer look

From long back, i accepted SR's are'nt as cool as RB's.. and sounded shit sometimes, and all this SSQV shite did my head in!
I always thought turbo flutter/dose was pretty cool  but thought to myself, it might require a bit of work to get it sounding right (with all the pipe lengths etc, etc.)
So once i found out that 'my' SR did 'the turbo flutter thing' i WAS LOVIN' IT! (dont worry, i dont sit there constantly revving the balls off it to get it to boost.)

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x164/w00tmynameisThomas/My%20first%20car/DSC02405.jpg

After i looked about i noticed the earthing points.. were em.... (both pictures of the same one)...

Since buying the car my friends have been very eager to help. Apart from all the stripping out and stuff, one of them has fixed water jets on the window, fixed horn, fixed a light motor, fixed handbrake, the man is the most useful man you will ever meet :D

Yea, so easy things first, took the rear seats out, was a hand job as the were hardly in in the first place :p

Yip

Using your knob to try to control lights is not a good idea. Use the switches provided :D

Seriously though, I dont really know but have you tried simple stuff like fuses. The inducators on the Silvia wouldnt work when the Hazard switch wasnt plugged in but thats not the case with you, i googled it and something about the relays being wonky perhaps? If the lights are popping then id imagine the (indicator :) ) stalk is working??

The bolts for the seat rails were...em... lacking... so after fucking about with motor factors and stuff i went to the nissan dealer...
Trying to find the correct chasis is a bit hard, but i think he told me the corrct one in the end (check pics)...

I needed a few bolts and also needed the nuts that go onto the gearbox tunnel...

Diagram...for future refrence incase any one needs to know...

Things to do...
Find seat rail for Sparco seat...
Finish removing all sound deadening..
Space out front (front right tyre is rubbing against coilover!)
Bin back two rims... (cracked spokes ---- Cracked not holding air)
Re-fix rear lights...
Buy tools!!!!!!!!!!! (money!!!!!)

Drove 600 miles collecting parts for last weekend. Ran out of money. Borrowed money. Hired out trailer, then I was told I wasn't allowed to go. . .

Yes. Exactly.

Ran round the country, collected rims, spent a whole week priceing, looking, deciding, buying fitting tyres.

I changed the plugs, oil oil filter and coolant.
Made a mess of fitting a 3 point harness ( Thanks Davie for suppling the harness, top guy!)

Ran out of money after servicing it, so expect next update to be in July some time, if not december.

Its still looking like shite, but voila.

So after doing a bita this....

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/163890_1583755191835_1174388881_31302580_7204761_n .jpg

And realising 15'' rims posses minus bigness

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/167382_1586527501141_1174388881_31311083_6699341_n .jpg

It sat like this looking extreamely purely shit for ages....

Then after a further 'fucking ages' , and realising getting 14 front lower arms wasn't just a cunt, but also quite the wallet muncher, I said 'fuck it' just got a set of 4-studness.

As the 15'' rims wernt mine, and I didnt even have a set of 4 wheels to roll on.

Took it to Bishops court. It felt slower then a turbo deisel. Nothing at all in it, esp at high revs. So left it for ages.

Now I just want to say, the plugs are the singlemost best well spent 8 quid ever. Car feels 100x better. Now the 'hybrid t25' can actually be felt!

I knew my car was sitting high on the coilovers, reckon it was never lowered since it got off the boat, but went about sorting it out this weekend.
The rears where as high as they could go, and seized....
Tried hammer and chisel... ate into the collar.
Tried shitty cheapo spec adjustable C- spanner.... May aswell have had a wank...
Got a lend of tien C spanners... Still no luck....
They where oiled up, and no luck so I left it and went to the front..

No bother with the front. Was handy, but I have a question... How low is too low?... im the width of a wheel nut from slammed to the max. I dont drive the car on the road, but when I look at the passo side arch, there is a scary looking lip that look like it would just slice the tyre if I went hard over a big bump.
Its about 2cm from the tyre at rest... Can someone let me know what the criac is?.. Please, thanks.

Went back and busted my hands but I lowered one of the rears. Happy out.

To do list...

Get drivers side JIC magic coilover.... to replace the single tien one, which is completely fucked.
Get driverside seat rail.
Get Kouki indicator stalk.
Get Rear strut brace.
Get Kouki side skirts.
Gaskets are all blowing.. get downpipe + de-cat

The kit looks much better lad, with the lip on the inner rear arch you can fold it back up into the arch by beating it back up,give you more lowness without scrubbing, if u go wider wheels id roll the arches.

serious tom
28-09-11, 10:35
Arches are rolled, just not flared.. Brian at Driftkits has an arch roller, and he knows what he is at, so hopefully he can show me and let me flare the arches.

Fitment should be pretty nice with simply a few slip on spacers. :)

Car is currently sitting like this.. I threw 200sx wings up to a friends bodyshop and got them to throw on some 326, so... makes things a bit better.. I have Chuki skirts there to go on, and I think it will do the whole car massive favours, looks like scrap at the minute and that's what all friends and family think it is.. So, not really doing myself any favours.

Anyways.. Back to the present. !...

With rear Coilovers back up to full height, as I messed with the preload rather than threading the coilover down into the bottom of the cup the first time I did it...
Still haven't been able to free up the locking collar as its stuck. Spent a few evenings at it, and with the standard camber arm in the way I couldn't get a proper go at the collar, so I messed about to no joy.. Next time shall i drop out the bolt at the bottom of the coilover and let the hub assembly drop away from it? To get a go at the Collar which is currently behind the camber arm?...

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/547369_3212466188592_1174388881_32442853_200789177 7_n.jpg

My tacho doesn't work, it may be linked to the 'keyless' entry system.. I don't know, I've given up and bought an Auto Gauge Tacho for like £13.

-I've fitted the stitched sparco with the DIY rail, that sits high and at a slope....
-Need to get a grinder to throw the wire brush on to finish the inside before I paint it... thinking dark grey with metalflake..

Can anyone explain the sills on an s13 to me? water gets to where the sill covers are and there are square holes there, and water might be getting into the sill... Is that how it goes? How can I best protect?

Sorta gets an idea of what's going on...

Also got sorted with a few choice stickers from Killian. -Thanks lad!

And then I grabbed a shitty shot as I was messing around with the car. Sorting out water seals around the lights. Small wee job.

Getting a lend of a grinder (have the wire brush attachment) to prep the boot and floors where the sound deadening used to be, then I've other bits like the tacho to fire in, and then tidy it up again..
Going to go dark grey with metalflake if possible for the interior maybe.. Ill see how it goes..

Wanted: Front Coilovers. - Downpipe.

Took out the rear coilovers, just as easy to do both then at the same time.
Ended up freeing the cups first rather then the locking collar, but I got them free soon after.

I dont know, but how tight is 'tight' in regards to the bolt that holds the bottom of the coilover in place? I just put the disc and nut back on and tightened it up as much as I could.. That sound alright? Is it that straight forward?

This is them done. I wound the cup to the max, and then took three rotations off it to give it a little bit of room. Is it ok to do that? I just pulled them out of the car and then set up an equal preload and then matched the cups on both of them. Is that ok?
