Right I have been on this Forum for a while now and have never put up a project thread so please excuse me if my first one is a little rubbish:wack:

So I started drifting years ago in various pieces of old RWD Fords (Warning Im a bit of a Ford head at heart!) and then got my first proper drift car that I actually spent some money on to try and make it a bit decent at skidding, This was that car:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/MK1Drift.jpg

Did reasonably well in that car but then a combination of thinking 'What the fuck are you doing drifting a rather mint MK1 Escort for' and seeing BonBon in action in his R32 in Punchestown led me to buy this about 2 years ago:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/R32.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/R321.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/R32back.jpg

A rather tatty looking but quite well specced R32 powered by a RB20. So my first port of call was to make it look a bit smarter so a pair of rear overfenders, a new bonnet and a lick of paint(cheers Dad:thumbs:) later it looked like this

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/R32BLACK.jpg

I did a few more little tweeks to it and got it stickered up and then done as much drifting with it as I could afford with it:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/R32drift.jpg

So the last event I did was Prodrift in Fermoy last year where I did ok but nothing spectacular, so at the end of the season I decided to start gathering a few parts to give it a bit more power. But then in Febuary I left my job which unfortunatley led me to put the car up for breaking but due to the fact that it seems no-one has any money these days nothing really sold so with a little inspiration from my freinds I have decided to put my new parts on and do as much drifting as my budget will allow and generally just have a laugh!

I will try and post updates as I go along to let you know what I am up to!

Right so as it stands I have the head off to fit a MHG for a bit of added reliability, so that should be going back together soon just waiting on a couple of other bits i need.

While I was waiting for these parts Today I decided to start ripping out some stuff that wasnt needed, namely the complete HICAS system and the carbon cannister. I have been wanting to get rid off this stuff for ages as It is usless to me know and all it does is clutter up the engine bay and add weight.

I was actually suprised at the weight of the HICAS stuff, it was pretty weighty!

driftescort
27-04-10, 11:43
Right so this is the Turbo I am fitting to the RB20,

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/TURBO4.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/TURBO1.jpg

Its a HKS GT2535 .64 exhaust housing in RB fitment. It took me bloody ages to find a decent RB fitment turbo as I wanted something a little bigger than the 2530s everyone seems to fit to them:wack:

I have also got a set of GTR injectors that I have just had cleaned and flow tested along with a brand new resistor pack to wire in.

Now I have got to get some kind of an ECU, anybody got any suggestions? I havent got alot to spend so I am kinda looking at the lower end of the market maybe some thing like a E-manage blue or Nistune?

28-04-10, 08:37
I am waiting for a few gaskets and bits and pieces to arrive so yesterday I mounted the Exhaust manifold on the head and the turbo on the manifold

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/15a2a091.jpg

Just a quick pic of the head surface I had about 2 thou skimmed off it just to make sure it was perfectley flat to seal with the metal gasket niceley.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/10287bfe.jpg

So I'm just waiting for the inlet manifold gaskets to arrive and then I can build up that with the GTR injectors and wire in the resistor pack. Oh ya I also modded the GTR injectors to suit the RB20 plugs.

driftescort
04-05-10, 08:41
So yesterday I started wiring in the GTR resistor pack for the injectors. My first time doing any soldering and it work out top notch. But then I ran out of single core so that stopped proceedings for a bit.

After chatting with one of my mates last night though I'm having a bit of a re-think, see at the moment I'm pretty skint so I'm starting to think maybe I should put it all back together with standard turbo and injectors as by the time I have got an ecu, Z32 AFM mapping etc, I will easily be looking at having to spend another 1k on the car which at the moment I could do with putting towards other things.

Also I'm thinking that it might be a better idea to put that money towards doing a couple of events and getting some seat time insead.

Oh well we will see:D

driftescort
20-05-10, 08:28
Hopefully should be starting this today, decided to fit the HKS turbo and GTR injectors. It all went together pretty sweet with a bit of a hand from some of lads (Steve and Bill).

I think it should run reasonably well with the standard ECU and AFM but have just ordered a Innovate LC-1 and am gonna get a nistune ordered up and fitted and if I can might give a go at mapping it myself!

We will see how it goes:D

19-06-10, 18:05
Update: And first off no pics at the min, so sorry about that! Probably wouldnt be that intresting anyway!

So I got a few more bits and pieces to get it ready to be mapped. Got a Z32 AFM that went on pretty straight foward, also got a Blitz Dual Solenoid boost controller and got that banged on.

Got myself a second hand DW wasted spark kit, it came pre-wired but the wiring was terrible (scotchlocks:rolleyes:) so re-wired that and got it fitted.

All seems to be running well now, obviously needs a map but my nistune board has finally arrived and hopefully it will be getting mapped on monday if everything goes my way:D

Good news billy... Team RB ftw :D

driftescort
03-07-10, 07:47
Well after a terrible time at the dyno which resulted in the car returning home still un-mapped I had a think about what I wanted from the car.

I am not exactly flush with money at the moment and cant really afford to spend all this money on a car I have to trailer everywhere and can only use in comps.

So yesterday I picked this up:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/2ca1769c.jpg

It is a mint shell with full interior and NCT (MOT). Basically what I'm gonna do is re-shell my drift car into this and have a pretty well specced road car that with a few mods like seat, harness, bolt-in cage, I can still do a few drift days and comps in if I can afford to.

Going to get cracking on it in the next couple of days, hopefully it shudn't take too long:D

Going to start stripping the drift car.

Anyone intrested in a Pro-spec very clean registered R32 shell?

what did u have to modify on the injectors to make them fit?

driftescort

There are more or less a direct fit into the RB20 rail, you need to file down the tabs on the injectors so the plugs fit right. But after that you just have to wire in the GTR resistor pack.

is it the same case to make em fit an rb25?

No the RB25 has different fitment injectors, I think you can get some kind of an adapter but they are not a direct fit.

Right got the drift car on the lift today and with a little help from the lads, in about 2.5 hours it looked like this:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/9251ce8a.jpg

Stripped and just in case you were wondering because of the crap pic I took, that is the back axle in the backround.

Got the new shell on the lift ready to go at it again tomorrow, If it all goes well we might even have it running.

driftescort
20-07-10, 21:56
It is up and running and driving now, seems to be running well but needs to be mapped.

I am pretty happy though as the boost and fuel problems I was having in the old car seem to be gone.:D

driftescort
22-07-10, 17:00
So this is how its sitting at the moment, Just got some old 18s I had laying around on it at the moment just to have it driving around the yard.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/c267cfa2.jpg

So I am going to use the bonnet and bumper off my drift car as it didn't come with these and I don't really have the money for anything flash at the moment. I have to get them prepared for paint but I am liking the look of the GTR front end on some of the cars I have been looking at recentley, so this got me thinking. My front bumper is a GTR replica item so that would do for a bit,I wanted a bonnet but can't really afford it so after a quick discussion with my freind Bill (Top Fabricator!) We decided to do this

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/c4613926.jpg

Followed by this, (Sorry about the thumb!)

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/2df83938.jpg

Which it left it looking a bit like this,

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/e40dc542.jpg

and this fitted,

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/a2cad117.jpg

Im pretty as I think it turned out Well. Just needs a light skim of filler now and to be painted.

Also does anyone know what spoiler is fitted to the car? Is it a GTR one or something else? It has a brake light fitted to it.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/807651d9.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/dbdb6e6e.jpg

I was thinking of removing it but I think it is growing on me.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/d9e27ab5.jpg

Just a small update, been doing alot of niggly little things at the moment so not really alot of pics but it is coming together now.

Hopefully going for mapping next week (god I hope that goes well!). I also have the panels that needed to be painted off for paint so hopefully they should be back with me in the next couple of days so I can get it all fitted up and looking nice!

Right I am almost 100% sure the front plate placement is fully gay, I'm not sure what to do with it yet but I would like to run one as I can't be arsed with grief from the po-po.

I think the front needs to come down a bit.

Tracked it the other day to, was looking for someone to do it for me but having had bad experiences with getting people to set-up my cars in the past and with a level, tape measure and a piece of string, done it myself and it worked out mint!

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/016.jpg

I would like to do a few more bits, like get it up to comp spec, to it but pretty skint at the mo so this is how it will stay for a bit I think.

I'm hoping to do a few practice days when I have the time/money though

Right got a bit of an update, still no pics as I still haven't got a camera! Not really much need of pics anyway yet.

I have sold the gramlights, I am now rolling on R33 GTR rims that I got off Hammond (Cheers mate:thumbs:). I am liking the look of them but need to sort some spacers to get them sitting well in the arch. Got a pair of S14 front lower arms coming that should help that and give nice camber.

I have also just got my Toda Racing flywheel back from being re-faced, it is mega light and should offer a noticiable improvement in response.

The best news is that I have given the order for AET turbos to rebuild my HKS GT2535:D As I mentioned earlier in the thread I had it fitted but it failed. I can't wait to get it fitted and get the car mapped. I am expecting somewhere round the 350bhp mark which I will be delighted with as it is considerably more than I have now!

Well I have been gathering a few bits and pieces for this over the last while. I will get some pics up soon (as I now have a camera.....well an iPhone!) but the best news is I have got my HKS GT2535 back form being rebuilt by AET turbos!

I can't wait to get it fitted and get it mapped by Abbey motorsport. Hopefully it should see a nice increase in power!

In the mean time check out my new R32 blog:D

I have loads of parts to fit to the car but just have not had a chance recently. Should make it even cooler when I get it all on.

Also got a new kit for it on Friday that should make quite a difference;)

26-06-11, 10:02
Well its been a while since an update.

I kinda fancied a change of kit as I was getting a bit bored of the look I had. I had a look at some of the kits out there and decided that BN Sports was badass on 2 doors as well as the 4 doors you usually see them on. When one popped up for a reasonable price I snapped it up.

and finally got round to fitting it yesterday, it is obviously still un-painted but I am thinking of changing the colour of the car anyway (suggestions welcome!) so will probably do it all in one go.

So here is a bit of a teaser shot as I have got a few bits to put back on the car before I take a complete pic.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/DSCF2046.jpg

Will look badass when painted and a bit lower I reckon.

Plan now is just to get the car loaded up and ready to go for the entry day on Friday and then get busy with the car as I have sooo many bits sitting around to be fitted to it!

So went to the Driftworks extreme entry day in donnington yesterday. Had a awesome day with alot of cool people and some sweet driving.

I was pretty happy with the way I was driving the R32, pulled off quite a few extreme angles and the car gave no trouble so well happy.

Found a few pics from a few different people:

Well very late post Awesomefest update.

Didn't really do much to the car apart from order a passenger side rail from DW and fit my passenger bucket seat.

Had a really good weekend, good fun with friends, got kicked in the head in the big tent, had awesome fun battling with Jason on the Huffy Sliders and found out how much paintballing hurts!

Took the R32 out on track for 2 sessions on Saturday and on Sunday. First time out on Mallory and I loved it what a cool track! I wasn't happy with the way I was driving and didn't get Gerrards right once, on my very last lap I did a big clutch kick entry in 3rd which felt good until I realised I was on the wires of the back tyres and buried it in the gravel:smash:

I deffo need more power in the car as I was struggling with the faster stuff but that should be sorted when I finally fit my HKS turbo. I was pretty happy with the way I was doing the tight chicane at the back of the circuit, I think I was entering pretty early and it felt pretty good.

Here are some pics I found of it taken by random people:

I still have loads of stuff to fit to the car, turbo, alloy flywheel, roll cage, harness etc. but I have just confirmed that I am moving back to Ireland soon where I have a well equipped workshop that will allow me to go a bit more mental on the car, I have plenty of ideas and hopefullt the car should turn into something pretty cool as soon as I can get on it.

Oh ya I have some new wheels coming for it to!:D

driftescort
13-08-11, 13:37
Well this morning I went into work and put the car on the lift and fitted my Toda Racing alloy flywheel and Nismo gearbox mount. All went pretty straight forward and the car now revs much nicer and the mount seems to have made the gearchange alot nicer!

As per usual having the car on a lift has added more stuff to the list I want to do to it but that will all be in good time. I did however find that my propshaft centre bearing is completley fubared, so:

Small update, I have got hold of a more or less complete S14 rear subframe. I have wanted to do this for quite a while now. Fancy the extra width and traction they offer. Needed a few bits to do the conversion so ordered alot of them from DW:D

Also bought a pair of front overfenders off Jungle Power. I fancied these as it will give me more room for my new wheels especially for the extra lock I want to get in the future also my wheel fitment has pretty much made shit of my current wings. Will order some rear overfenders soon to complete the package.

Got the R32 in the workshop now and have been cracking on with it. Unfortunatley I am waiting on quite a few parts to get on with the jobs I am doing.

One of my main aims with the R32 is to make it a competent drift car. To achieve this I knew I would have to modify the suspension componentry.

So with this in mind and still waiting on a number of parts for other jobs I decided to make a start on modifying the suspension.

The first port of call was a pair of S14 LCAs I had picked up for the project. I knew that I want to increase the front track width while also allowing more room for the increase in lock I intend to achieve also.

So we made these up:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG_0644.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG_0640.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG_0641.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG_0642.jpg

We have extended the arms by 20mm and also added in underside bracing similar to what is seen on S15s and Nismo arms. All the welding done is using a TIG welder so is very strong and a bit more appealing to the eye. We also made up a jig so we can easily make more in the future.

This should allow me to run a much more suitable camber setting while also giving more room for lock and a wider front track creating a more stable front end.

I can't wait to get on with the other bits I intended to modify and get them all fitted to the R32 and see (feel!) the difference.

If anyone is interested in getting a pair of these made up for their own car let me know. It can be done for a reasonable price and I could also fit DW polybushes/ new ball joints to the arm if required. A fitting service to the car is also avaliable. Just PM me!

Well progress has been a bit slow the last couple of weeks as I have been doing other stuff but am cracking on again now.

I thought I would take a quick pic of the offset bushes I got in order to fit a S14 rear subframe in the R32.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/4c86551a.jpg

They look pretty smart and will also mount the subframe flush withthe floor that should give a degree of roll centre correction.
It also looks like I have done a deal on my engine set up in order to change to something I have always wanted to try. I think some people with love it and some will hate it but I personally can only really see positives with it.

I will get some more info on all this up as soon as everything is confirmed.

Well my new engine has arrived

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG_0667.jpg

Yep, I am fitting a straight cam SR20. It made huge sense in my mind as I could easily achieve the power figures I wanted to with the RB20 whilst fitting a lighter shorter engine that may well produce a bit more torque.

My plan is to get a bigger turbo (not sure which one yet but looking for 380bhp+ so open to suggstions), some 550cc injectors, an aftermarket ECU (looking like nistune) and have a nice amount of power.

I am gonna clean up the engine bay a bit before I get it in but should have it in soon enough hopefully.

Bought a little present for the SR:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG_0715.jpg

Motul 300V 15W50 and a HKS hybrid sports oil filter.

I know from my time working at Abbey Motorsport that Motul oil is some of the best out there and I wanted to put the best oil in I could afford. It should also last longer than other cheaper oils giving longer periods between oil changes.

I suppose now all I have to do is get the engine fitted and running!

driftescort
19-10-11, 08:00
Haven't really done much to the car the last week as I have been away/injured myself/been doing other stuff.

I am trying to collect up a few bits for the SR now to up the power, I will be looking for at least 380bhp but a bit more would be nice although I am not sure the rods will take it.

I am gonna try and get some 740 injectors but can't currently decide what turbo to go for. I was thinking 2871R .64 but was also considering something a bit larger like a 3071R or maybe a TD06 20G. I dunno I will just have to see what comes up I suppose.

I am also currently trying to resist the urge to fit the spare Z33 gearbox that my Dad has sitting in the shed from a VQ powered project he is building!

Cheers lad, there is alot more work to go into it yet though!

Sr won't give more power than a RB in particular (although it may offer more torque) but I decided to go this way mostly for the handling benefits. The SR is 2 cylinders shorter and also all alloy so should give a near on perfect weight balance.

Got a bit more done to the R32 today. I had already dropped the R32 rear axle out of it and cleaned and painted the S14 rear subframe I got hold of to fit in it. I also fitted offset solid bushes that also mount the rear subframe flush with body.

While the rear axle was out I decided to Waxoyl the whole underside of the car and under all the 4 arches. The shell is very clean and there is no rust but I would like to keep it that way! I cleaned off any heavy dirt and gave it a good coating!

I have also got the bare S14 subframe mounted in the car, I wanted to do this then build it up in the car as with the offset bushes I thought it might be a little tricky to fit. It fitted pretty easy in the end just requiring a small bracket on the rear of the frame to be cut off to stop it fouling the R32 fuel tank.

I didn't get any pics but will try to get some next time I am in the workshop.

driftescort
12-11-11, 18:47
S14 rear subframe is complete and in:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000240.jpg

Fitted it with offset solid bushes that also flush fit the subframe against the floor to allow for some roll centre correction. I have also fitted DW polybushes to the lower arms and hubs and solid diff bushes. I used all the adjustable arms I already had fitted but got some DW toe arms which are obviously alot beefer than the old R32 Hicas arms.

As the S14 rear subframe is wider it should make the car more stable at high speeds and due to the different mounting of the bottom arms should also offer more traction.

Not even sure what to do next but think I may start on modding the front suspension set up for better steering.

Well I think you 2 might be happy ;-)

I have been getting on with this a bit lately, I decided to spray the engine bay to make a proper job of it so I stripped it, prepped it and sprayed it the same colour as I am painting the car.

Yesterday I received my Genuine D-max roof spoiler from Japan, had a quick trial fit and it looks alrite, might need a bit of work.

Started refitting the engine bay after spraying it and now it has come to the time to get the SR in the bay. There is a few jobs I want to do to the engine before I fit it though. First off I picked up a set of 740cc Nismo injectors a while ago so I fitted them to the engine this evening. They came in what I assume is a S14 fuel rail but I had to swap them into the straightcam rail to make sure they fitted correctly.

That is it for now, I should be receiving a S14 oil pick up pipe in the next couple of days that I want to fit before the engine goes in and I am also waiting on a friend to remove the turbo I am planning on fitting from his car so I can get that on.

Thought I would throw up some pics of the modidified crossmembers I have made up. One is for a RB and the other for a SR. I will obviously be using a SR item in my car.

We made them to move the rack forward 20mm to cancel the overcentre problem we all know and love! We wanted to make them in the neatest way possible so they would both look nice and also for road going cars the modification wouldn't be very noticable as this may cause problems with MOT/NCT tests.

Going to start doing the few little jobs I want to do to the SR now before I fit it.

First thing I did was repalce the slightly tired engine mounts with a pair of Nismo ones I had laying around.

Then I replaced with the notorously troublesome straight cam oil pick up pipe with a bentcam item for piece of mind.

I also got hold of a lightweight Exedy flywheel that needed a reface cheap so that is off being done at the moment.

I have also got the turbo I am going to be running, it is a 2871R .64, should be good enough to see close to 400bhp which I will be well happy with and should also keep a nice bit of response. I have decided to run an external wastegate to make sure I don't have the boost creep issues that these turbos sometimes seem to suffer from. I am almost 100% sure that I am going to run a standard exhaust manifold aswell to avoid the cracking issues alot of the stainless manifolds seem to have, so I will be mounting the wastegate on the manifold which is another thing I am have to do. I am undecided at the moment wether I will run the screamer pipe to the atmosphere or plumb it back into the system yet. I might see if there is a way I can make something up that will allow me to do both.

No pics to add at the mo but hopefully will get some more soon.

Right starting to get on with the R32 again. I have told myself that I am going to keep working on it now until it is finished, I have kind of set myself a deadline of a drift event at the end of Febuary but with the rate parts I need are turning up I don't know how likely that will be!

So I did a bit more to the SR as I want to do as much as I can to it before I fit it. I had a sandwich plate laying around so I fitted my oil pressure and oil temp senders to it and got that fitted along with my HKS oil filter.

As I said in a previous post I wanted to mod the standard manifold to run my 38mm Turbosmart external wastegate so with that we went to work and this is what we made:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000470.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000471.jpg

and one with the gate just placed on:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000472.jpg

I am very happy with the way it turned out, it took a bit of work mainly on the internals of the manifold as they are a twin-scroll design so quite a bit of die-grinding was required. I shouldn't have to worry about boost creep on my 2871R though.

I also lucked upon this sweet elbow/downpipe combination, I believe it is a D-max item which seems to be a seriously rare item as I had been looking for one for a while with no luck. They are a great design with the oval pieceallowing it to sit above the chassis rail. I have also been told that they really make a straightcam sound nice:)

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000473.jpg

As I am still waiting on some parts to finish the engine off I decided to get on with modifying the front hubs which I have wanted to do mainly to make the steering a bit quicker as I always thought the stock R32 set-up was a little 'slow' as an extra benefit I will get more lock than I reckon I will ever need. An advantage of the R32 hub design is that when modifying the hubs we could move the mounting point down a bit to add in a degree of bump-steer correction.

Here is a few pics I took of them:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000467.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000468.jpg

Got them fitted today and with a very quick alignmet I can say I am very happy with the results.

Hopefully will be getting a lot more done now just being held up a bit waiting for parts.

Waiting for a few more bits to come from the UK to fit to the engine before it goes in and also going to the UK for a piss up this weekend but hopefully should be in the next week or so.

Finally got to spend some more time on the R32. So I went about fitting up the last few bits to the SR to get it in. I ordered some braided lines for the 2871R from Hose Solutions and specced them with Fire sleeve to be extra safe:). Got them on and got the turbo fitted to the manifold. Before I fitted the turbo I put a few small tacks on the wastegate penny washer to keep it closed.

I then fitted my lightweight Exedy flywheel and Stage 2 Exedy paddle clutch to the engine and got it dropped in the engine bay, I fitted the SR box to it after then with a new DW Poly gearbox mount. I reckon the R32s must have a considerably bigger tunnel than the S-bodies as the box slipped in with loads of room, no turning this box upside down.

So here is how it sits in the bay:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000538.jpg

I am delighted at how far back it sits, number 1 cylinder is pretty much inline with the R32 strut tops. I really can't wait to drive this and see the difference in handling as I could always feel the extra weight of the RB in it before.

As you can also see I sprayed the bay before I fitted the engine, I am very happy I did as it wasn't much work and cleaned it up no end.

Its still pretty messy in there but will all come together soon.

Earlier today I decided to test fit the rad and intercooler in there to see how far back I could mount stuff and where it would roughly sit.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000539.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000541.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000540.jpg

I am once again delighted as it looks with a small bit of trimming of the front panel I will be able to mount everything inboard well out of harms way, pushing that small bit of weight further back and keep the pipework nice and short.

I am really getting enthusiasm back now and can't wait to do some more to it! :D

Bit more progress today.

Gave the rocker cover a lick of paint and fitted my Turbosmart external wastegate;

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000542.jpg

Took a break from the engine bay then and pulled the dash out to get ready for fitting the cage.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000544.jpg

Might try and get all the cage bolted in next and then finish the engine bay and get it running.

Right bit more done, the rad and intercooller are now mounted up:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000551.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000550.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/P1000552.jpg

I am very happy with how it ended up as I was able to fit it all basically in the engine bay, I only had to trim the front panel slightly to give a bit more clearence for the cooler. I won't have to worry about smashing the intercooler off anything now and will also have very short pipework so that should hopefully make it a bit more responsive.

As you can probably see in the pics I was able to mount the top fixings of the rad and intercooler with a plate that doubles up as a cooling panel which was a nice little touch:)

You can see the brackets I made up for the bottom of the intercooler in the pics and I also mounted the rad further back on the tension rod brackets so it is a very sturdy set-up now!

I fitted a few more bits around the engine bay and have ordered the silicone joiners I will need to make up the intercooler pipe work and the intake pipe as I will be running a Z32 AFM so once they arrive I can get on with them.

I think the only other thing I have done is fit my D-Max downpipe which once I 'massaged' the floor a little fits A1 and since just nicley above the chassis rail so I shouldn't have to worry about that scraping:D

Really can see this coming together now which is giving me the enthusiasm to keep going and get it done which I hope to have done sometime this month!

Wish me luck!:p

Well the theroy is that with shorter pipework ther is less area the turbo has to fill with air before it gets into the inlet manifold hence it should feel more responsive.

That is the theroy anyway:D

Been putting in the hours on this over the last few days.

One of the problems I have been having is getting the prop to fit. When I had the RB20 engine and box fitted I ran both ABS and Non-ABS diffs without a problem but after fitting the SR I found that the prop wouldn't fit anymore with the 2-way Tomei diff I had picked up which was in an ABS casing. So I had to strip the diff out of that casing and fit it to a non-ABS casing which I had, luckily enough it was the same 4.1:1 ratio as was in the ABS casing as I wanted to keep that ratio.

It all went together pretty well and once I had fitted the non-ABS diff the R32 prop fitted spot-on.

As I had a bit of time spare as I was waiting on parts to arrive I then fitted my DW braided brake lines to knock another job off the list.

I did a little more tidying round the bay and then the courier arrived with my silicone hose joiners I have been waiting for to make up my intake and intercooler pipework so with the help of my fabricator friend I cracked straight on with that as I want to try and get the engine running ASAP.

It all went pretty well and after a couple of hours we had these in and tacked together:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/securedownload-2.jpg

It has worked out pretty damn sweet and as you can see the pipework is super short so should improve response a bit.

This is pretty much where it stands now we just have to weld up the pipes fully then we are going to make the screamer pipe up and after that I think it may almost be ready to start:D

Oh ya I also blew the wheel budget out the window and have bought a set of wheels I have wanted forever and are pretty baller but will wait until they arrive to show them off;)

I was considering at one point returning it into the exhaust system but I decided to man up and just put it to atmo!

I also forgot to mention in the previous post that I fitted the cage, just have the basic frame in at the mo but am going to fabricate the bits I need to bring it up to competition spec.

Right I suppose it is about time I updated this as alot has gone on in the last couple of weeks. I have been on it pretty much flat out as I was determined to have it ready for a drift day on Sunday, which I achieved!

I am not sure really what order to do this in so I will try and keep it straightforward but it was all a bit of a blur!

So I think when I posted last we had just got the car up and running but it obviously needed mapping but all sounded well.

So next job I wanted to get done was get it in paint as my Dad was painting it for me and he was going on holiday so we needed to get it done before he went away.

Not really much on that whole process but it ended up with the picture I posted above which I must say I am pretty damn happy with I think it looks like it could easily be sitting in the pits in Meihan as much as in my yard which is what I was going for, I think!

Next job was to get the interior sorted, as I will be competing in Prodrift this year I had to have a cage that was up to spec aswell as all the usual bucket seat, harness etc.

As I mentioned in a previous post I had already bolted in the main frame of the cage which was a 6 point through the dash bolt-in item but to be up to spec I had to add in a rear diagonal and double door bars on both sides.

I wanted to keep the cage fully bolt in as it means, if I want to, in the off season I can take out the door bars and also if the worst happens than the car will be very easily to reshell and get going again.

Here is a pic of the door bars, I am extremely happy with them as not only are they up to Pro spec they also allow me to keep my door cards:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/558963_3655167896428_1191487303_3604145_1455550749 _n.jpg

Massive thanks for these (and all the fab work on my car) must go to my good friend Bill who constantley turns out top notch work.

I also got my gauges fitted which was a job I had wanted do for ages:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/389181_3629651418532_1191487303_3591155_1580373285 _n.jpg

I love the placment of them and it is great to be able to keep an eye on the engine.

So after we got the interior pretty finshed it was time to take it for alignment, its first trip out of the yard in a while!

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/427897_3611282039309_1191487303_3584568_840010924_ n.jpg

I was pretty happy with how I got the settings except for the front camber which combined with running pretty damn low and having +20mm S14 arms fitted came out at 6 degrees! I reckon I can reduce this though but I will have to adjust the top front camber arms which as, anyone who knows about these on a R32, will testify that they are a right pain!

I was pretty happy with the lock my modded knuckles are giving too:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/533816_3623974396610_1191487303_3588830_138678424_ n.jpg

I could get more but I would have to notch the bottom arm as the Tie rod end is hitting it and then I would be rubbing my ARB! Just to add I moved my tension rod mounts inwards for more clearence for lock and I can't see why people faff around with GTR ones as on my R32 anyway my Tein ones now sit further in than the ARB!

The day after alignment it was time to head for mapping, I have only done a mapping session a couple of times before and I am always nervous about them.

Fortunatley everything went fine and there was zero problems, I must of put it together alright! I got it mapped on a Nistune which Robbie in TDP supplied, fitted and mapped for me.

I was delighted with the results 390bhp/359lbs/ft at the flywheel at 1.4 Bar. I have never had this level of power before and I can't wait to get used to it and start putting it to use!

After mapping I had one more day to do the few other little jobs I could before Prodrift logging on Saturday then the drift day on Sunday.

One of the things I decided to do was switch from 235/40/18s on the rear to 225/40/18s to give me a tad more clearence:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/548877_3655169376465_1191487303_3604146_1765096936 _n.jpg

Nice fit!

Prodrift logging went fine, just a few bits and pieces I need to do to the car beore the first round but nothing major.

So Sunday came round and it as time to drive the car for the first time in about 6+months and with a totoally different car.

Gonna sum the day up pretty quickly, not the best day as I only really got one good run due to a miss/hesitation in the morning which we tried everything to cure and was just about to load the car up when I un-plugged the TPS sensor and it ran fine!

Then went out for my one and only good run and tbh didn't get a great feel for the car yet but it did feel very well balanced and the power is great fun, she loves to smoke!

Went out for another run after lunch and another miss was instantly noticable which turned out to be one of my Splitfire coilpacks failed! Some upgrade eh! I will be switching back to standard coilpacks.

So that was pretty much the day, still alot to learn about the car but it felt really good and once I get used to it I am sure it will be an animal.

Here is a couple of pics from the day I have found, as you can see the front isin't quite finished as I discovered that my vented wings are meant for a GTR so I need to get a pair of GTR indicators.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/524017_3641529315472_1191487303_3598229_324567569_ n.jpg

I discovered after painting and fitting my vented front wings that they were actually meant for a GTR not GTST so I had to get some GTR indicators. I got a good pair from a friend and got them fitted today.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/tn2.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/tn3.jpg

I am kind of feeling the orange, I think it goes quite well with the red. They will definitely do the job for a while anyway although I can see me fitting some proper GTST vented wings in the future and fitting the OEM Nissan orange/clear indicators as I think they are my favourite.

Here is a couple of other shots I took of it. As you can see it is now fitted with the Prodrift stickers required for me to compete and is also a bit dirty! Sorry.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/tn1.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG00049-20120430-1609.jpg

I am pretty certain now as well that I am going to take a step back a bit from competition and do some more practice days and try and improve my driving a lot more before I dedicate myself to a whole season.

I think I will do the more local rounds of Prodrift but unfortunately you just can't get the seat time at a competition that you do at a drift day and at the end of the day I want to be able to drive this car to the best of my ability and that means getting LOTS more seat time.

I have the car built to regulations so could take it out whenever I want which is a bonus and hopefully with much more seat time I will be alot better driver in comps straight out the box!

Next job on the list now is get the bloody bonnet painted!

So today I decided to see how low I could sit the R32. As I have taken a great deal of inspiration form the A Bo Moon cars I would like to try and get a similar look to them. This means I have to sit LOW!

So this was the out come:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG00117-20120517-1540.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG00118-20120517-1553.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG00120-20120517-1553.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG00121-20120517-1554.jpg

So yes low but in reality totally undrivable due to the front wheels trying to pull the wings off at the shiff of a turn.

This means I will have to raise it up:( or consider a wheel change to a more usable size.

So I am not 100% sure what to do yet but I am going to say this.....if anyone is interested in a man spec mint set of VS-KFs then throw me a message, these won't be cheap but are a set of some of the most badass wheels avaliable.

P.S. I still haven't sorted out the bonnet.

Thanks for the positive comments lads! There is loads more I want to do to it but money puts that on hold.

It looks like Brian at Driftkits may have an answer for the vented bonnet problem.

I have been looking at it again today and think I may get away with the height at the rear but the front will have to come up a bit but maybe not too much. We shall see!

Bought a pair of wheels just to have another pair for drift days/messing as they were cheap enough.

Anyone know where you can get the 90 degree valves these wheels need as one is missing?

Got some tyres on the Eurolines to see how they fit. Had to bang on a 25mm spacer but like how they sit. Perfect as spare drift rims.

Booked for Driftfest masters on June 10th so Really looking forward to that. I am going to go through the suspension again before it to see if I can improve it a bit further.

Well with moving my rack forward and having my hubs modded my lock was being limited by my tie rod ends hitting the bottom arm.

So I dropped my arms off to my fabricator friend and....

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/560059_4117459773436_1021579801_n.jpg

Bottom arms now notched for more clearence:)

and fitted

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG00161-20120607-1628.jpg

I am very happy as the only limiting factor now is the wheel rubbing off the ARB, not bad considering I have 55mm extra track on each side over a stock R32.

More Pics:

and the result:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/353876094144-2012-06-07.jpg

I am extremely happy as I now have more lock than I will ever need, I can't wait to test it out on track.

Also I picked up a 4.36:1 diff, pretty pointless pic but:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/IMG00163-20120607-1716.jpg

I am interested to see what difference this makes to the car as I love a bit of response.

I am booked in to a comp on Sunday so it should all get tested then:)

Few more updates. Finally painted the bonnet:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/292656_4126856488348_584345932_n.jpg

Then took it to a drift event on Sunday. It was a local comp and I was really looking forward to driving the car hard finally for a whole day. The day went pretty well, I had good fun and even qualified for twin battles where I was unfortunately knocked out by Brian Egan in his S2000 powered AE86, damn that thing is fast!

The car ran pretty much perfectly all day with the only major problem was it getting a tad hot, I am going to make up some ducting to try and divert some more air into the rad/IC.

Anyway some pics from the day:

Couple of updates.

Car is now insured and back on the road:D, it is great using it every day and I can already feel me getting more settled with it.

One thing that has been annoying me about it that I have noticed since having it back on the road is that there is quite a lot of noise from the diff as it is now solid mounted along with the subframe. So I fitted my rear seats back in:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/Backseats.jpg

bit of a crap picture, sorry:o I must say though it has reduced the diff noise quite a lot so I am very happy!

I have also got hold of a pair of genuine D-Max D1 Spec front wings that I have now fitted, I wanted to get these on for 2 reasons. 1. I had smashed my other ones 2. They would allow me to run the GTST indicators I have always intended to run (my other ones were for a GTR)

So a few pics (excuse the dirt, I prefer driving to cleaning;)):

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh103/driftescort/D-Maxwings.jpg

I like them and like the rear vent on them too.

Got a couple more bits to do to it, I have been having cooling issues when on track so have ordered a new genuine Nissan water pump and also have a RB viscous fan to fit to see if that helps at all.

Apart from that just drive it I think!

Cheers lads!

Done a couple of jobs I have wanted to do to it the last couple of days.

First as I have been having some cooling issues I fitted a new Nissan water pump and a RB viscous fan. I will need to get it on track to see if it has really worked.

I also changed the box for another one I had as there was a bit of a wine out of the one I had and it was annoying me a bit on the road, new one seems all good and I filled it up with some 85-140 to try and make it last as long as possible!

I also offset the front upper camber arms to give more castor but due to my wide track front end they now seem to be fowling the inner arch so I think they will have to be put back to the way they were.
