I think the atmosphere is gone
Not as exciting as it was before, none of the spectators were getting behind drivers or anything.

I thought the track was excellent, and i thought PD tried to maximise tracktime Saturday and running 2 drivers in practice is also a great job.
It moves things along faster and people not used to twinning (me:p) get a feel for having to concentrate on another car aswell as your lines.

Roll on next round

the reason the crowd doesnt get behind the drivers i think is that the real characters are gone...ffrenchy and johnny p are a huge loss..and the unusual cars like tommy mcdonaghs volvo..mcgoverns manta and ur man from mayo(cant think of his name now) in his green mk ii escort

had a great day but PD really need to do something about the atmosphere! we were lucky enough to be stand beside the the lenihan family and have a bit of banter with them basically cheering for any one but the 3 lads, but it was by far the strangest PD event i have ever been too

i didn't think they got any calls wrong in the head to head but the scores for the super lap were shocking!

I think its a lot to do with the judges they are very one sided they have their favorite drivers and thats it. Seems like this topic comes up a lot after a round of Prodrift. If you ain't friends with the judges its hard to do well. Like Mondello last time out Sinnott vs Kearney how many times was the ran again till dean spun off. Sinnott had it won clearly and was just ran again and again. Its a joke they should have new judges. They were saying about some drivers being off form all weekend then when Darren Mac does shite they blame the car?? Just think its a case off "not what you know its who you know". Other than that was a great day and savage weather:D

its been like that for years..complete favouritism..the judgin in the super lap was laughable..if pedan says 8 ian bergin says 4..theres a big difference there like..everybody is watchin the same lap. how can there be a 40% diff in the scoring

Lol.
For a spectators point of view:
I think the sound system was a major let down.
I couldn't hear what some of the judges were saying at all.
A speed gun on the entry "with a point given for the fastest entry" would have added to the excitement.

As a drifter:
I loved the track, 3rd gear entry:cool:
I qualified 12th + was against "gem-s13" in the top 32.
I ran too tight+ straightened a few times on my first run.
The 2nd run I got close to gem a few times but didn't do enough to get through to the top 16.
Looking forward to round 2.

Savage track,Good turnout, some stupid decisions by the judges as usual, one twin battle in particular today which i rekon a lot of people think the same, prodrift need different judges, every round its nearly the same judges and they have favouritism towards some drivers which is a total joke,im surprised darren wasnt left through after his spins even  Some things never change i suppose.......

18-04-10, 22:05
Had a great wkend thanks to micko for lending me his pride and joy, didnt know what to expect never competed in a skyline before but i loved it and the track, was un luckey wid intercooler pipes kept blowing off and kept me from finishing twin battle.

One of best things i seen all wkend was mulvey changing his box throwing car up on its side this was dedication, he hasnt lost any of his skills or bottle.

Their was a funny atmosphere alright and a few unsure results , was well impressed wid shane o sullivan, he s upped his game, mike and christy was a good battle, sinnot unbeliveable as always immense angle and smoke and crowd did appreciate his overtakes. james deane has put his stamp down firmly again he s hungary for another title, hope he can show some of this in jdm allstars, give them somthing to talk about other than big remmi:D

Great first weekend, lots of drama yesterday with Brian getting alittle carried away with a backwards entry in the Compact:D pity a few cars had big offs though like John Macs M3 and a few others eariler

Huge crowd today but I think the lack of atmosphere was due to a few things like the sound quality from the judging not that great, some odd judging at times which would have any spectator confused. Fair play to Peden and Eric though as their decisions on a few battles was better I think even if the majority was against them.

Think he weather needed to be good and big crowds at the first round so it will help keep the interest throughout the season

Guards being check points and sneaking around the pits towards the end was alittle much though!

There was points going for speed on the radar yesterday as John Mac got a few extra with his entry speeds.

Think it was something like an average speed was found and then your penalised for not keeping within 5mph of it but not sure if they used that system in the end

Cooldrft
18-04-10, 22:26

Great day. But as usual judging was a JOKE!
The superlap scores were a shambles.
And in the top 16, some really good drivers were put out because of favoritism.
Its getting really annoying at this stage.
They need different judges each round.
Because it really is a case of who ya know, not how good you are.
Which is so unfair.
On another note the sound system was fuckin awful!

They were saying about some drivers being off form all weekend then when Darren Mac does shite they blame the car?? Just think its a case off "not what you know its who you know". Other than that was a great day and savage weather:D

Darren qualified first on saturday and then hit the wall hard on his second run. He did his best today but the car was about a foot shorter on one side causing it to steer like a shopping trolley, I think its fair to blame the car for his two spins in top 16.

Overall I think it was a brilliant event to start the year off.You can never keep everyone happy and to be honest I didn't agree with some of the judging either but I know how hard it is for PD to even get judges and I respect the lads decisions.

I dunno what was up with the crowd but even in the pits there seemed to be very little going on, i think its due to only 16 cars being around on sunday. Saturday was absolute madness with cars everywhere and there was a great atmosphere around, maybe have pro qualifying on sunday morning instead ???

Driving was superb, so many lads have stepped up their game big time and although James was amazing today I think he'll have his work cut out to claim another title.

I know there was some words had at the drivers briefing about lines and walls etc, how do the rest of you boys feel about all that as I only spoke to a couple about it. Do you prefer running close to walls out wide ?. Would you have preferred there to be no passing so you could run the walls and just have to follow the lead car instead of defending your line or deciding to make a pass ????

What about spectators, which would you lot prefer to be watching ???

conorosr20
18-04-10, 23:19
Another reason why the spectators are dying out is the price of entry to see it,20 euros like, come on! in fairness most people see it once and thats enough for them, only the die hard crew stay following it,a lot of people had no interest in being there today,as it was said before there was no roaring or support for drivers which is a pity,i think drifting grew too quickly in ireland and its starting to go downhill, great opening event but it will be interesting to see how the rest of the year goes.

pmc-drifter
18-04-10, 23:27
Definately bullshit judging no driver knew what to do, some drivers took the inside line and were punished for it and then some runs were the total opposite i just think the whole event was all over the place.

s13-ste
18-04-10, 23:28
Deffo have pro qualifying on sunday, its a bit hard to swallow a trip half the length of the country and paying €20 to see 16 cars!

its a 50/50 thing really, as cool as a pass is if its on a shallow line its not as exciting a two cars close to each other on the wall but at the same time i dont want to see a lad binning the car either

Well I find and have always found ciaran hynes to be biased towards the cork drivers and some of his scores in super lap were unreal bad,. As a spectator I like to see runnin the wall in top 16 don't get me wrong the overtakin is super exciting and gets the crowd going but the lines ran were so much shallower wit good portion of drivers runnin over the inside white line... Off topic, sorry bout the detour git but I fuckin hate abbeyleix and got out of the lane without a scratch.. :) and gem I love the s13 man runnin nice tire stretch..

had a look at Darrens car Saturday evening just bedew I went home and it was well bent at the front end alright which would have messed things up even if they straightened it as best they could
Maybe the MacNamara team will have to get some spare cars:D

20 euro for Sunday would be alot really considering there was much more action and drama on Saturday and it was only 10 euro. Probably be better to run the Pro Qualifying on Sunday morning as it drags on very late in the evening Saturday especially u there is a few crashes that bees clearing up which is tiring for the drivers and teams as well as it gets too drawn out fir spectators that are there all day

Any idea what the average speed or John Mac's speed was Dave ?

Not sure on inital entry speed but he was well into 3rd gear and 2nd is good for around 60 before he changes and he was well into 3rd which tops out at about 80 or 90

they got a speed for him hitting the wall at nearly 50mph anyway which would have been after bit of braking!

Thought it was a good start to the year... Some good driftin, good weather and a big crowd! Guards at the gate was upsetting but nothing Prodrift can do about that... Some big offs on Saturday which was awesome but at the same time sorry to the drivers involved... And yes Darrens car was bent out of shape, like really badly... Dont think hed 1 gud run Sunday seeing as he done it Saturday... As always loved watchin Donal in that mental little cam... Big congrats to everyone involved especially James, Nigel and Alan for taking the top 3 spots... Roll on Punchestown!

It was a great event BUT and they're big but's, Saturday was too long, it was 7.45 when it finished up. Some of the judging calls were very off. Super lap was a bit random at times.

Personally the worst call of the day was with Alan Sinnott (sorry lad), theres NO way that was a rerun with Mick Deane, Mick beat him fair and square. the first run was very close, I'd even call it a Sinnott win because of the lead he pulled coming out of the tear drop BUT the second run was a 0 for Alan, it shouldn't have even been a question, he cut one corner and then flattened the second cone and then Mick pulled a bigger lead than Alan had in the first run. In the rerun that shouldn't have happened it was very close and that should have been rerun but it was given to Alan.

As for getting judges from a different country, I'm sure its possible but be prepared for the entry fee and ticket costs to go up to pay for it.

meego1
19-04-10, 12:41
ye definetly agree mike v alan shoudnt have been rerun.Theirs no need to bring in foreign judges, just use drivers who arnt competing ,eric could easily do it, people wud respect his decision because of his skill and knowledge behind the wheel and he s well able to talk up their, none of the judges have achieved anything to my knowledge that qualifies them for the position anymore more than any other supporter of PD:D

I was watching alongside S13-Ste with the Lenihan clan and it was a good laugh although i've never heard a crowd so quiet. Compare that to the "last Day Out" in the rosebowl (an awesome days drifting!) and the crowd was deafening! Some of the super-lap calls were definitely way-off. As for the twin battles i'd comment on the judging if i actually heard a word they said :D

@carpo your car was just awesome to watch and your skills definitely weren't lacking either.

@danmoorhead that was me that overtook you on the motorway and gave a little beep beep salute!

Lad your point was about the judges.... Sayin whatever about blaming the car when he spun twice.... But he spun the day after the crash????? Thats what Eric was getting at and to be honest in the context of your initial comment the 1 above makes absolutely no sense!

The judges said it was the car not running right for Darren all weekend. All i am saying is that they would never criticize Darrens driving because who he is.They blame the car instead.

Maybe they wer on about the fact hed pretty much no practise saturday because of overheating issues... Which again is a valid point! Fair enough not agreeing with their calls but your just looking for an excuse to bash the judges now!

i think what eric meant was if the car wasnt fucked then i would prob hav been on the pace or at least have not spun

In another post you were defending the judges. My point is simple get new judges for each round. Who thinks the same? Prodrift is nothing with out the support(money) from fans and the fans deserve to see the best drivers win on the day(taking nothing from James Deane he was unreal on the day and Nigel Colfer) also and get rid of favourtism altogether its not just this round last year was the same and the same points come up here after each round.

It just seems to me you are blinded by something. Were you in Mondello last year for Japfest? Did you think there was anything wrong with the final between Dean Kearney and Alan Sinnott? Sinnott had it won and it kept being ran again and again and again till Dean span off. It happens every round some favourtism between the judges.

i wasnt there but i said it last year i think pro qualifying needs to go back to being done on sunday morning so the spectators get to see more than just 16cars for the 20euro in,i thought the old way was better qualfying with loads of cars that morning, just my opinion

If you keep swapping you run the risk of getting some1 completely biased towards 1 driver and no matter what sending them through... Just wouldnt be possible! None of the other top series do that and infact they all have the same arguements after each round... Because not every1 is going to agree...

I dont think the judging was that bad sunday, If i was judging myself id have done a SIMILAR job.
Darrens car had to be all over the place after the impact saturday evening.

His pre qualifying run was awesome, think he took a Ueo approach to the first corner :)

You do get tired of watching the same cars all day long so qualifying sunday morning would be a good idea.

Well done Gem, will you be able to keep up with the debut :p

Firstly on the judging,With a quick ref to Alan Vrs Dean @ Japfest last year,As I said on here before it was all set up for Dean to win until he knocked himself out!
Yes There was also a strong favoritism.

Dan,Admit you tie to prodrift and take your tongue out of their arse,Your a cousin of the owner, are employed and socialize with them,So take the brown off your nose and go back to bragging of being "head track marshall" to a group of kids I seen you taking to.Dont deny it,I have the video saved on my N95 and was also witness by 2 members on here.

Pro qualifying on Saturday was a joke imo,Darren #1????WTF? Was I the only one to judge it a poor lap? At least if your gonna push your brother through the series dont do it so blatant after a crap lap?

Darren,Sorry to see the car in tatters,Unlucky.

Sundays judging was quiet fair only for Kieren Hynes bigging up the Caark Massive,He's a joke to be fair,Last year he wasnt bad but this year fuck me hes off the wall!
Ian Bergo Bergin,I comend him on a job well done,Found him extremely biased last year making terrible calls but this year and rd 1 I found him spot on.

Pedan,Excellent this year.And last.

John Gibbons,Shoot that Cnut!

Thought Eric was very easy on the ear,Enjoyed hearing what he had to say!

Saturdays are far to jam packed,Left nothing for Sunday,€20 for16 drivers and €26.50 for a jack russell burger.C'mon.

Infairness I did enjoy the weekend,Some fine metal this year. Some excellent driving by alot of drivers.

Most improving drivers this year,Dan Moorhead,Shane Sullivan,Donal Fucking Garry Jesus he was unreal (still needs SR tho):)!

Car of the Event and prob the year for me,Christys Phat Bitch S15,Fook that thing could cause cancer with the smoke,GTR ass and that car will be the one to beat.

Sinnott,Very deserving of 3rd place,Drove excellent all weekend-Needs to get grip tho to get the car to travel,You could see at the back of the tear drop where the S bodys were making ground on exit.

Colfer,That car is on the money,Hopefully last years bugs are gone,Steady,Excellent but safe;) drive all weekend.

James Deane,God,Truth be known Papa Deane and Mammy Deane must have conceived him in an Rx7,Jesus the car was made for him,He just puts it where he wants,Whoever said an RX7 was gonna be hard to drift obviously never ran it by him,Huge congrats on what was some show!Gonna take a good'un to beat you lad!

Overall a great weekend,Absolutely burnt to fuck now,Dyin in work all day!

Was gutted i couldnt make it, had ferry etc all booked but out of my hands prevented me :(

Heard there was a lot of Karnage, which is a shame, surely there has to be some way of tryin to save lads cars against a concrete wall while they're still Amateurs etc?
Lads breaking their balls building and funding cars only to be stuck with a pile of metal afterwards.

Weird there was a bigger crowd on sat, maybe because it was only a €10'er? and there was more to watch with dramas etc...

I was at JDM Allstars the wk end, savage savage driving including Luke Fink making the trip for the event, and it was only £10stg entry.
I feel the €20 entry fee's really need to be revised and encourage families to go to events for a day out, noone has the spare funds like they did a few years back.
The athmosphere and crowds were also great and in high spirits, even when there were track breaks due to monstor trucks breaking etc, well done to the commentators, Fussy was one of them :)

I really hope Citywest is publicised enough to make it the great event its lined up to be, as there seems to be plenty of UK interest for it (by talking and encouraging drivers over for it)

Judging is always going to be questionable, regardless of what series you look or compete in, and not everyone will ever always agree.
I do believe a change or addition to a judging panel can be a good input. Although you dont need to go to the extent of flying someone in to do this, and even if you had to, Ryanair are great!

There was no crowd there on the saturday, it was that the day was packed, practice for amateur and non seeded and also their qualifying and top 32, mixed with pro seeded practice and qualifying. Nearly non stop drifting on the track from 9.30 to 7.30 that evening. Sunday then had loads of spectators and had Pro (16 drivers) practice, Superlap and then the top 16.

I can't see why Superlap can't be gotten rid of and have pro seeded qualifying on Sunday with the judges giving results for the qualifying laps as they happen, like in D1 and Formula D. I think it would help the spectators get an idea of how drifting is judged and be able to get behind drivers and see how they are doing.

I mis-understood when reading so.
To be honest, (going on from my last post) it is the commentators that bring the athmosphere to an event, I know previous the PD PA system was shite and couldnt hear nothing.

In BDC & JDM its the commentators who bring the athmosphere to the events crowds and get them behind the drivers, i dont think its down to the crowd itself, maybe import some of the UK guys to get teh show movin a bit for the spectators and livin them a bit!

Prodrift need something to attract a crowd,a crowd that not only eat and sleep drifting but something different, what the jdm all stars do in the uk is great, they have everything, free style motocross, monster trucks, its something different, and cheaper!!! most people ya talk to are sick of paying 20 euros to watch the exact same thing every event,it needs something to spark it up again,ya get rid of gibbons, get some new judges, not even fly people in but as someone said earlier old drivers etc,a bit of variety is all thats needed, the twin battle between colfer and lenihan was a fuckin disgrace now way should colfer have gone through, and a lot of drivers were hard done by.I even heard off somone before that a certain prodrift judge hates the sound off paul mcs bm and hates putting him through......total bull shit like.

just from a spectator perspective i also noticed the with the flag marshal at dw corner he would raise the flag when scoring box wasnt entered which in my opinion is correct... but john gibbons constantly said that when the flag was raised it means the scoring zone was entered.... was kinda confusing for spectators that are new to the drifting but i am sure the judges scored it on the basis that raised flag means no socoring box entered

anyone else cop this??

If you have a real problem with the individual judges be a man and say it to them in person, instead of posting stuff on the internet. There walking around during the breaks and aferwards.

Hey chap :)

Im just thinking here, even if they have some "problems", you really think that will solve the problem if they talk to them in person ?
I doubt here, yes all the guys are friendly and will talk to you the nicest way, but will that really solve the overall judgement ?

Im not really with drift judgement and rules, but ... i heard the crowd making bad noise after some judging. Will that make any sense to judges ? Or the crowd is really so stupid after 5-6 years of watching the PRO drift here ?

Judging is the hardest job to do, you cant see absolutely everything and retards get on forums and bitch about you..

2 points here,

Why dont they put themselfs in a position to see everything?

Iv said it before and il keep saying it, why are they not in 3 different positions judging 3 different things leaving no chance of a blind spot for the judges.
the second is they put their hands out to be slapped with some of the calls and should read over the threads and take things on board.

i can remember whos run it was in the super lap but he scored 18. 8, 6 and 4. how can 3 people in the same spot watch the same run and see things so different?

And i think Deane's run was never worth 10 points in Superlap !
He did way better laps after that ...

also with super lap scores the judes would just say 5 for example and dont give a reason for the score really doesn help new spectators understand whats needed to score big..

I actually think a proper/better PA system would narrow down a lot of this arguement as when battles etc commence, the judges/commentator should be able to explain what the corwd didnt see when the judges obviously have the view point.

Sided or not, once the judges decision is actually explained it does help. Happened at a few UK events where people were mouthing at decisions but once explained it cleared the crowds anger/confusion on some decisions

just from a spectator perspective i also noticed the with the flag marshal at dw corner he would raise the flag when scoring box wasnt entered which in my opinion is correct... but john gibbons constantly said that when the flag was raised it means the scoring zone was entered.... was kinda confusing for spectators that are new to the drifting but i am sure the judges scored it on the basis that raised flag means no socoring box entered

anyone else cop this??

yeah i noticed that... so i wasnt sure wtf was going on...

i also didnt know what was happening for the first 2 rounds of twin drift as some of the drivers were taking a wide line and the other would stay tight and overtake......

personally i like the the old style of overtaking... there was way to much confusion last year with when you can overtake... i thought it took away from the competition.

the wide line is great for qualifying/superlap though.

this "bias judges" thing is a load of clatrap... from my view of the track there was 1 or 2 bad calls but i agreed with almost all of them... the judges had the best view in the house.

the PA system was perfect were i was...

if there was a judging stand at every corner the fans wouldnt be able to see anything, and the judges do need to be elavated in order to see as much as possible...

I dont care about you lot giving ur opinions on the judging or any of that, its a forum thats the point BUT when it comes to bitching like skool girls about judges and pd staff thats where i draw the line!

In my opinion the judges are doing the best they can, i put it to the forum to nominate 3 people who they feel would be qualified to judge such as fast growing sport and wel enquire with pd about getting them involed somehow...

What about spectators, which would you lot prefer to be watching ???

thought the track was good as a spectator!,cudnt follow the judges fully at all a bit weird! i thought was grand today and you cant reli say much about him as his car handeled like a wheelbarrow and so what if the lads are all from cork james and darren are two class drivers!! but the judges decisions are made and thats it! the sound system was not great at times aswell! as a spectator i think passing should be the name of the game! during alan sinnotts run when he tried to pass and i think passed the crowds voices rose a gud bit ! but during the runs we were the only 5 people to be shouting alan on to win! haha! but i iive for a savage pass during a drift battle!!!!and wall tagging is favourite with spectators and myself! with those both included aswell! there was also a reli gud crowd but to be honset it wont touch a round that i was at in good old rosegreen! and no other PD track will touch rosegreen for athmosphere!! in rosegreen ur standing right on the track and you can feel the wind of the cars coming past your face! and every1 is in together in the little shed and around to the big shed which makes for great banter! and also the drivers need to be more sort of upbeat and happy when they eithier finish a run or get out of the car on the track and get the crowd going!!!! not just difting back to the pits etc.. like as it was said eariler people like ffrenchie and johnny p and also miguel marini are needed to liven things up! those lads were crazy after runs!

also for the MC: he needs to be more exciting! he not doing a bad job at all but he needs to be like for eg. (like a soccer match when some1 goes to score a goal the commentar wud raise his voice and get reli excited which makes the viewer reli excited! also some said it was a pitty that no1 stayed around for the prize giving , well most of my friends left cuz there were nearly burnt to a crisp! haha but i stayed aorund for a chat with wez and the alan and the boys and because i was in my 1tr corsa we hit the road just in case we didnt make it home! hahahhaha lol! but all in all a good event and its nice to get back into the drifting scene after the winter break! and congrats to every1 who qualified and best of luck to every1 for round 2!!

Sry il bring it up here but ...

I remember how the judging worked in Ice skating, similar to drift id say ?
Id say its a very similar judging here.

Figure skating was formerly judged on a 6.0 scale.

Oh and i cant remember seeing the judge difference more than 1 point in 6 points scale, and then it was more likely political thing (simphaty). Usually it was within 0.5 points.

So can anyone tell me please, hows the drift actually judged ?
How can it be 4 points difference in 10 points scale between 2 judges ?
Oh and dont tell please that ice skating is easier to judge lol ...

Cheers

i personally think 90% of whats said here is a load of balls i watched all day sunday i seen a good few mistakes from drivers that were not comented on from the judges but thats life!! lets all face it james, darren and the lads are all from cork they no each other very well so fucking what, the 2 boys can drive we all no that they both drive in fd so there is no reson why they would need help from the judges to qualify even if it was there, if thats the case they may tell the lads they cant drive here anymore because they are to good and it looks bad if they win!!

on the thing "judges need to go" saying they are puting there favorats thats just balls you see it that way bacause your favorate didnt go trough, my opinion i dont like some calls but lets just get on with it

the way i would like to see it changed this year would be a guest judge at each round eric was up there on sunday so it wouldnt have been a big deal for them to give him a seat and let score on the runs, 4 rounds left easy to get 4 people to do it ffrench for example,

and the number one thing to do is get rid of that fucking dope john gibbons!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Theres still downfalls to that though, your still goin to hit the wall, its not going to slow u down and u be draggin a plastic bollard with u!
Although if lads are aiming a few feet back from the wall for plastic ones, they're angles, speeds etc will be different and could help save cars going the extra feet giving time to correct.
Possibly an idea for amatuers in particular to help encourage and get the feel for their cars befone writing them off while learning...

But without a doubt spectators will be moaning that the cars are too far away from proper viewing

Unfortunately for whichever car is out for the year if it's not fixable for wot ever reason, there'll always be more cars in the que behind to take his spot.

That wouldnt have anything to do with effecting spectators! They love karnage sure lol

Barriers just test to see who actually has balls and consitancy, bbut not in a nice way:confused:

EvojeepGal
20-04-10, 01:01
I understand that as i made the point myself earlier about the same thing.

But the way things are, its not going to be changed and its upon each person individually to question their own talents and choices to take the risk as soon as they set from the start line.... Unfortunately i reckon thats how things will stay.

I know when i first drove between walls in Ennis i was reluctant to drive on, but as experience came i learned to get on with it and ignore them, aim for the clips and hope the lines i chose put me right, not much else to do unless u want to watch from the crowd!

But as for opinions, i do wish there was an alternative for safety apart from causeing serious damage to cars, but again in saying that im sure everyone would be of the same opinion, to rather a car get wrote off than the general public getting seriously injured or killed thus causeing Drifting in Ireland to be a memory

20-04-10, 08:32
They did relax the clipping points on the wall for this event and the likes of Punchestown last year. Once you were within 5 feet of the wall you got the clipping point. Most of the drivers still push to rub the wall.

Like last year at Fermoy the clipping area below the judges stand was a large white line painted on the ground nearly two meters from the bales. In practice and qualifying for pro seeded and un-seeded everyone went past this line just to rub the bales.

I m not sure what they could use instead of concrete as the wall, a second plastic section where the clipping point might work, but with most of the damage done at the weekend the car would still have hit the concrete.

DaveM-sport
20-04-10, 08:49
I much prefered the bales last year but with feed for cattle in such demad this year, it probably couldn't be got:rolleyes:

plastic barriers such as road works barriers empty or half full of water in front of the walls would be grand and add some visual excitment when they go flying when touched but would really slow things down when they hav to be realigned after each run.

Rubbing the walls looks great but i'm not looking forward to having to do it myself when the time comes but I suppose it's like everything, once you get out there it's alot easier and you just get on with it:)

RX7 is really hard to drive but i like the challenge!

Would it be fair to say though that by fitting the sr20 you've removed alot of the reasons ppl say rx7s are hard to drift? Lack of engine braking with the rotary engine, small and lightweight engine size means that it is effectively a mid-ship layout. SR20 should remove those two main problems I imagine, and the only other negative about them as far as I'm aware anyway is that you are kind of sitting on the rear axle nearly, although that would be more just a case of getting used to it I'd presume? Although switching between as many cars as you do I imagine that makes it much more difficult. Anyway congrats on the win!!

As for the judgegate topic. Wasnt there so cant really comment. But Irish drifting is all too close nit so it would be nearly impossible to get a totally neutral or non connected person to judge, who would yet still be up to and qualified for the job. Its true that in no other sport would you have somebodys friend, relation or even business colleague etc. judging them in a professional competition, but no matter who you get that will most likely be the case, unless they bring in ppl which I'd be pretty sure they wont.

Nobody will ever be fully happy with judging decisions. Just the nature of the game, and I plan to be at punchestown so I'll get to see for myself I suppose.

lads i been reading through the replys on this thread so i though id stick my 2cents in as well.

no matter what drift event that is/was ever on there is always people complaning,be it prodrift,d-rift or even the di days.you can be assured that the day after the event there will be people whinging about judging, parking, prices, the burgers you name it.

the fact is that the majority of drivers and spectators really enjoy the prodrift events and i for one am dam happy that there is a drift event here to compete in.
the price for entering is peanuts in comparison to rallying or circuit events so that is not an argument at all really.€100 for a competing on brilliant tracks, well organised and well suppored by drivers and sponsors is a steal.

regarding the concrete walls if your afraid of them dont go near them!!its drifting not a pillow fight with cars.most drivers will tell you that once you set off from the start line you dont even think about walls, all you are worried about is your line and clipping points and trying not to spin!

as for judging is a thankless job as no matter what decision you make its going to upset somebody. In different peoples eyes different things will impress them more but may not necessiarly what the judges outline what they want to see as it varies from event to event so cut them a bit of slack.

thanks all i have to say except roll on round two and before anyone has a go i have no links to prodrift or any other series.im just a clubman drifter so to speak:D

No I think when people say RX7's are hard to drift they mean the way they handle, dont think the SR20 made much of a difference. Even if you asked d mac of fFrenchy im sure they would say the same. I think its because they are so short and wide it makes them very snappy and unforgiving.. It is really easy to spin. But the best thing about the RX7 is the traction, they have really good forward speed.

Well put lad! People starting to get it at least!

Get what lad? What are you on about?
Everybody has a right to an opinion on this.
Your view is biased anyway.
You are linked to Prodrift so obviously you will support everything they do.

lads i been reading through the replys on this thread so i though id stick my 2cents in as well.

no matter what drift event that is/was ever on there is always people complaning,be it prodrift,d-rift or even the di days.you can be assured that the day after the event there will be people whinging about judging, parking, prices, the burgers you name it.

the fact is that the majority of drivers and spectators really enjoy the prodrift events and i for one am dam happy that there is a drift event here to compete in.
the price for entering is peanuts in comparison to rallying or circuit events so that is not an argument at all really.€100 for a competing on brilliant tracks, well organised and well suppored by drivers and sponsors is a steal.

regarding the concrete walls if your afraid of them dont go near them!!its drifting not a pillow fight with cars.most drivers will tell you that once you set off from the start line you dont even think about walls, all you are worried about is your line and clipping points and trying not to spin!

as for judging is a thankless job as no matter what decision you make its going to upset somebody.

About the only post on here i totally agree with you have it band on in 1 lad.
As for the 100 euro entry its not bad like its 150 to go to mondello practice day and drifting throught the hole in the hedge you meet a car driving towards you with about 20 - 25 cars on the track and in fairness to prodrift i was always giving out about the seat time drivers got but on saturday we got loads.

I havent got the time to read the whole thread but I will put my views up;

I went to watch on Sunday and out of all the Drifting I have been to over the years both spectating and driving (and thats quite alot), I thought that it was the most boring I have ever been to and €20 was too much to charge to get in for what was on offer.

I didnt think any of the drivers were up to there usual quality of driving and that MASSIVE gap between super lap and top 16 was horrendous with nothing to do but watch some people being taken for spins.

On the judging I thought it was very poor. For example in the superlap one judge scoring a driver 4 and another judge scoring him 8 was rediculous. I really think there should be more qualified judges as I thought a couple of the decisions were very dubious.

I hope Prodrift can up there game as they have all the ingredients to make a fantastic series which I can once again attened and be blown away by whats on show.

Edit: Although I did hear Saturday was rocking and James Deane WAS on top form!

Jesus lads my heads melted after reading all these comments haha..:)

People are always going to complain about events, and in this case the same few have been doing the whinging, but fair enough everyone is entitled to an opinion. However unless ye are going to be constructive about it then just quit it. Its not fair to be attacking people, getting abusive and so on.

All the points about bringing in Judges are fair too but no doubt WHOEVER was brought in would be slaughtered in exactly the same way. Judges make decisions, some ppl will support them, others wont. Its always been that way and no matter who is judging it wont change.

Great weekend, unreal weather and some pretty promising displays of whats to come for the rest of the series...

Roll on Round 2 and the fun in Punchestown.... can't wait :)

Couldn't be bothered reading through the that whole thread. I really enjoyed last week, great weather, had a great laugh with the lads and some really good quality drifting. The only problem I had was the Judging, I normally didn't mind the judging at all the other events sometimes they are hard to call but last week took the piss abit.
