Hi everyone ! :p

I'm French as you may have guessed :D
I'll be moving to Dublin this summer for a new job, and I want to get some info about the drift scene in Ireland... Because when I am not working or sleeping, I am drifting :D

In France I own a 2JZ-S13 but I won't bring it to Ireland, I'll need to find a new car when I'll be there. Is it easy to import japanese cars to Ireland ?

Are there often track days for drifting in Ireland ? And how's the life in Dublin (I already know it's rainy :D ).

Lots of questions, sorry :o

Thanks, I hadn't found that website, thanks ;)

I already saw in Dublin renting is quite expensive... I am thinking about renting something a bit further outside Dublin and drive to work everyday. But don't know if it is reasonable. How is the traffic in Dublin ?

Dubling traffic can be a pain in the arse at times but ti really depends on the area.

do you really need a whole appartment? there are plenty of room available in dublin at the moment

cool...wat kinda car you lookin for an s body???

Dori!
20-04-10, 09:14
Not sure actually... The best would be a car that is already track-ready, so I don't waste time and money preparing it, so I can still drive a bit this year.

I've been wanting an FD for years, so maybe... :D :D

way2fastforu
20-04-10, 09:39

Is it easy/cheap to buy a car in England and register it in Ireland ? Or even import a japanese one and register it in Ireland ?

jaycono
20-04-10, 15:41
they way our economy has gone you would find it cheaper to get one over hear IMO

Dori!
20-04-10, 15:49
Ok.

I read you have a big tax to pay when first register a car in Ireland, depending on the value of the car and the engine size, for exemple something like 30% value for more than 2.5 liters. Am I right ?

way2fastforu
20-04-10, 16:05
like jaycono said it'd be cheaper to buy here the way the economy is gone...wen u import a car to ireland you have to pay vrt(vehicle registration tax) on it...not sure wat percentage of the cars value it is tho

June 27th... Starting work on the 28th.

I'm in the organization of a big drift event in France that occurs on june 26th, can't miss that one so I am moving at the very last day possible.

http://www.festival-auto-moto.fr/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/fly-fr.png

It's on the "Anneau du Rhin" race track, which is on the very East of France near Germany here (http://maps.google.fr/maps?ie=UTF8&q=anneau+du+rhin&fb=1&gl=fr&hq=anneau+du+rhin&hnear=Alsace,+Mulhouse&ei=F17bS-O4DNi7jAe54OivCA&ved=0CCAQpQY&hl=fr&view=map&cid=474484861978316810&iwloc=A&sa=X). An FD would be the best but they look expensive in Ireland. I am gathering info about how to import from UK or Japan but looks expensive anyway.

way2fastforu
30-04-10, 23:18
i would bother importin it'd be cheaper to jus buy here the way things are...some english imports come in wit rust problems too

Hi :D

Some silly questions since I'm now deeply preparing my "daily" life in Dublin...

I am looking for an accomodation but prices inside Dublin are a "bit" high. I am looking for a 2 bedrooms + garage to be able to park/work on a drift car inside. I think the daily car can be outside... But I find almost no accomodation with garage ! (I am looking on daft.ie)

I will be working near a DART station so I think I can use DART to go from home to work. But even when I look inside areas like Dun Loaghaire, or Kilbarrack which are also near DART stations, it's hard to find something that suits me... Maybe I'm just not looking in the right areas ? Any tips to find a great home ?

And btw, how much does a DART subscription cost monthly ?

Thanks for helping :) :)

Dart isnt that expensive, its about 5 euro return for my journey from bray to dublin, you wont get much more expensive than that per journey.

Dun laoighre is expensive! its posh dublin. you could go further south, search bray , shankill, greystones etc on southside of dublin, its also where the driftireland hq is!:D:D

look on www.daft.ie and www.rent.ie , there both good for accomodation!

Hi there ! :D

Still a few days before I arrive in Ireland :)

Could you please explain me the difference between VRT and Motortax ?

I think VRT is when you first register a car (for a new car OR an import), and Motortax is what you need to pay each year for being allowed to drive your car and depends on engine size (pre-2008) or CO2 (2008+).

Am I right ?

It looks very expensive to have a car with a serious engine... :(
Will need to buy an RX-7 so it's cheap considering 1.3 liters :D :D

CORRECT..........

MY SKYLINE IS 2.5 AND MOTOR TAX IS €264 FOR 3 MONTHS :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Dori!

That hurts !!

I think I'll make a French registration and have a car with French plates in Ireland :D should be cheaper :(

Is there a difference in Motortax for turbo/non-turbo and gasoline/diesel ?

ste
05-06-10, 22:35

Welcome to Ireland mate

Dori!
07-06-10, 16:52
how much is it to tax a silvia or skyline in france dude??say for 3 months

There is no permanent tax like this in France, but on the other side you almost cannot register imported cars from outside Europe (like Skylines for example).

You pay once when you register the car, it depends on things like engine size and CO2 like in Ireland. In France we have what is called "fiscal horsepower". A serious car has between 10 and 25 fiscal horses (Impreza is 17, S13 is 8 -I'm not saying an S13 is not serious lol-, S14 is 13, 350Z is 20, M5 E39 is 32 and the winner is Bugatti Veryon with 118), which you pay about 30 to 40 Euro each when you register the car. But after that, you don't have anything to pay every year. If you change car frequently, it can be expensive, but if you keep your car for long, it's cool.

But as I told, you almost cannot import cars from outside Europe to France. A car that has never been sold in France officially (like a Skyline for example) is a real pain in the a** to register. It's not impossible, but costs a lot, takes years and requires technical information you can only get for Nissan Japan, very difficult to collect. That's why you don't see Skylines in France (except on tracks where you do not need to have a registered car).

That's why I'm thinking about bringing a French registered car with me :D
For how long are you allowed to keep a foreign car without Irish registration when you officially live in the country ?

Cezeli : thanks mate :)

way2fastforu
07-06-10, 16:58
as far as i no if a foreign car has road tax from the country it came from you can keep it on the foreign plate until that tax runs out but after that it'd have to be put off the road or registered i think or atleast thats how it used to be...the cops over here would give you alot hassle in a modified car nevermind one thats on foreign plates so could end up bein alot of hassle if you brought a car

Dori!
07-06-10, 17:02
I'm thinking about this more for a standard family daily car, not modified, discrete and unsuspicious :D
... Telling the cops "I live in France but I am often in Ireland for work" blah blah blah... Would that work in your opinion ?

My drift car is sold in France, I'll find another one here :)

way2fastforu
07-06-10, 17:08
you'd def have more of a chance gettin away wit it in a normal family car...it could possibly work sayin your over here on work alot too
but if they find out your livin here they'll still prob hassle your over the french plates cos
you wouldn be payin road tax here

kevy-s13
07-06-10, 20:49
dude.....if you move to a place called Newry. its about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes drive from dublin (if you dont mind the travelling)
you will also more likely find a house with your necessities in newry and not at such massive rent prices.

and here comes the best bit....

newry is infact the NORTH of ireland, i.e. no need to pay VRT costs (as we dont have them here in the north). simply pay your yearly tax on whichever car you have (which for me is a max of £200 per year for my s13) and pay insurance and you're good to go!

If not newry (as it was only a suggestion) try to live somewhere just beside the border but still in the NORTH so to speak. that way you wont incur those collossal vrt costs etc.

AND....up here, we have the UDC (ulster drift championship) which is awesome for both spectating and bringing your own car along whether you're at division 1 level or amateur level! you can simply drive your car there, pay £50 at the gates and have a serious amount of tracktime for your money compared to many other events!
check it out on www.sideways-racing.com

glad to be of help buddy!!

Dori!
08-06-10, 07:22
Thanks for the tip kevy :)

1h30 seams a bit far for an everyday trip, since I'll be working almost in the city centre, it could take even more time to arrive there + need to rent a car park. But why not... I'll put it on my "possibilities list" :D

no probs dude. but if you can make the trip up to the UDC in bishopscourt every month, its well worth it. next drift day is the 4th of july at bishopscourt. i'll be out for the first time with my new fully forged sr20'd s13 - CANT WAIT!!! AAAAHHHH

anyone is welcome to bring their car round the track so try get a car sorted and get up there!!!:D:D:D

Is there a drift zone or something at this hotel ? Or is it a "meeting point" for drifters that go to UDC ?

Oh yep, I just checked it but it's on the 26th and 27th... I arrive in Dublin late in the afternoon on the 27th. I thought it was on the 4th of July, since we talked about the UDC first, that was on 4th. :(
