Boosting wastegate the the mo. 7psi from 3.5k rpm to the red line. Working through the kinks before going to 14psi, like leaking oil and intercooler piping blowing etc. Still, in love with it. Pulls like a train. Choochoos.
Bonnet doesnt close because of piping. Thats only minor though. oil restrictor on the way.
New problem formed last night. All was going well until I started it and it spluttered/misfired and died. I can start it and drive it as long as i dont let it idle. misfires when cruising too. But totally fine when its under load i.e. accelerating and decelerating/over run. Not sure whats up. Hopefully isnt not as bad as i think.

The mazda at japfest and a pic of some arch work I done the other day after fitting 30mm spacers all round. Going well! Boosting 13 psi now.
The mazda build was going well until it threw a rod the other week.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_5758_zpscte80jwv.jpg
I thought i'd turn up the boost just for a few pulls for the craic and well, that was that.
It was boosting about 22psi and it felt super fast, for about 10 second!
A con rod exploded into several pieces out through the block and sump. There was lots of smoke.

looks like it wasnt a clean break!

This only meant one thing, forged internals.
Have a new engine now thats going to get rebuilt with new gaskets etc. and manley forged connecting rods. Want to get up close with 300hp. It will happen!
Needs some paint

At least the clutch is still nice and meaty.

that sucks about the engine but i say you can pick a new one up fairly cheap and i was wondering what ecu are you using for the turbo setup
Sucks about throwing a rod! What are you going to do about gearbox and diff with that kind of power? Just see what else breaks or upgrade before?ha
6 speed and matchhing diff out of rs/s-vt/vs is supposed to take about 350bhp
Ah I had it coming in fairness. No way would stock internals last at well over 300hp haha
Im using an MS2 with an aem wideband, IAT and rx8 injectors, peter.
Mx5 loves a good rod in the hole
Dave, I have a 6 speed in it already and plan to get that diff as well haha with a nice 3.9 ratio. I've heard they can take nuclear bombs. I have yellow stuff pads in there and they are pretty good with Michelin pilot sport 3s, these are savage . I'll move up to carbon Pads or probably 4 pot willwoods. It's only early days!
You know yourself, the parts list just gets longer and longer.
Tom fix your shit skyline

Ah ok your well on your way! Those gearboxes and diffs are getting expensive!ha Btw is this 1.8 or 1.6?
I'm planning on turboin mine over the winter, only be aiming for about 240 bhp so should be fine with the standard gearbox and diff.
Yeah thy are! This car was originally auto so I had to get the box then get it swapped. Cost a fortune. Worth it though. Diffs have gone up too. I had one in my first mx5 but that was stolen and burned out and crushed. It's a 1.8l.
Yeah the diff and box will hold 240 all day. Your clutch won't though.
What engine do you have? What size turbo? I recommend a gt2560r from an s15.
shit you haven't had much luck with cars!ha As far as I know I have a stage 1 clutch in mine so previous owner said when I bought it. He was planning on turboing it before he sold it. So might last a while! What's the best clutch out there for these?
Mine is a 1.6, I got it with a td04 off an Impreza. It's in perfect condition so gonna go with that. Some guy called sturovo on one of the mx5 forums makes manifolds and downpipes to suit your needs, so gonna go with that.
What ecu do you have?
I just sold my turbo kit today for my mx5 :(
My luck with cars is rediculously bad. There's plenty of clutches, exedy and Flyin Miata are both solid.
Tdo4 should be grand yeah with a good tune. Sturovo has been non contactable for a few months now. I was going to go for him too. I think he's busy doing his main job. Try flying Miata for their kits, or g19 in England. They do them for the tdo4. I'm using an ms2 built by Dimitris on nutz. He's a wizard.
Kruizer you mad man!
just seen this, this is the website sturovo is using....http://reventshop.com/post/132118028632/regularkit €615 including everything
gonna have a look for G19 now.
There's a guy in Letterkenny that does exhausts and I might try him as well, would like to keep the money local!
Is Dimitris, the same as Reverant?
Yeah that's the man! €615 is a good price. He makes good stuff. I knew a welder who made mine on the side. Problem was it was made off the car, so I just went with what I thought looked right, and I was lucky haha
Mad what a bit of paint car do!

Getting done asap, aiming for autoheros.
Engine going in on saturday morning. Come and help.
So itll run Saturday. Cya then.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6152_zpskhmrg8os.jpg
Finally got a wing! 1400mm. No such thing as over the top in my book. Just need to make some higher legs.
The car is going back together this weekend, hopefully running on sunday.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6143_zpsjojdss00.jpg
Also, this will be happening again.
this yokes as straight as a roundabout ye queer
Here is the engine before it went in, looking well.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6168_zpsznfxkrvh.jpg
Here she is going in.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6171_zpsv7b4wbxa.jpg
Went in relatively easy. Took time but didnt really run into big problems. Hardest part bar lining up the box was fitting the starter motor in that bastard of a place. Had to take out the rad and move the anti roll bar to get room but no biggy.
All was looking well.
Started it up, eventually. Lots and lots of white smoke, wouldnt idle and wouldnt start again.
I made the mistake of not getting the head skimmed, didnt know it was essential.
So this is how it is now.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6193_zpszphk623j.jpg
and the head is now skimmed.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6194_zpsomn6qrcv.jpg
noice.
Hopefully getting it on tonight and started again. I think the head was the only problem, but we'll find out! Still on target for saturday.
Quick tip leave the box and engine together and take out the rad and they just come straight out. Same going back in you just need to line up the ppf. I dont a clutch at the weekend by taking the lot out. Was handier than trying line up box on the ground.
Everyone was saying that to me. I dont know why I just wasnt arsed unplugging the box haha
Bit of an update. The car is being a right prick. It does not want to start. Takes ages but when it does it sounds smooth and revs nicely.
Havnt taken it for a spin yet though.
Going to try new oil and plugs and see what happens.
The mazda's second coming.
Not starting 100% but getting there. Took her for a spin and it was good, bar the siezed brakes, no power steering and coolant leak, but the engine worked and thats a win. All should be well now for the morning heading to autoheroes. Talk about cutting it short!
Wang isnt on yet, need to make some cross braces to make it more secure. It will look epic though.
Also, hubcaps are back.

Still not starting properly, found out why, the ecu thinks i have 240cc injectors when I actually have 420cc. Silly ecu.
Fitted the wing. Class.

the wing looks perfect on the car. top job.
the flames are photoshopped
Thanks, andrew, it turned out well!
Hmm i think painting or wrapping the plexi for the spolier would help. How did you cut it?
he cut it with his razor sharp micky
Ah i like it see through for the moment. If I get bored of it I'll probably wrap it. I cut it with a jigsaw with new 1mm blades
Love this!
Where did you get the wing?
Thanks!
Got it from some guy second hand. I think it's the japspeed one, or very similar.
Thangs are slow atm with the rubbish weather. Still not starting great. In need of a new battery too. The interior is saturated and getting mouldy. Any tips on how to make that better? Dehumidifier?
I Plan to fit the front wide arches soon and make the car more functional.
Are your seals around the windows leaking? Is your soft top ok? It shouldn't be leaking that bad unless one of your seals are gone.
Ah yeah the roof is fucked. A new one is on the list. I'm just wondering is there a way of drying out the interior?
Dehumidifier and leave the fans on hot and take it for a drive. Try and get an outdoor cover for it in the meantime!
Sweet. Killing me seeing it go mouldy :(
A friend had an old e30, he used to do that but leave it sitting for a few hours with the heating on full blast and the dehumidifier. It worked but he used quite a lot of petrol letting it sit running all day.
I use kitty litter in a pair of tights to keep the car from getting damp when its parked up but i have a hardtop so the damp is not to bad. Also has to be kitty litter with silica
Nice one haha I think I'll need a dehumidifier though, my carpets are saturated.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6519_zpsx9unhyyk.jpg
Finally in the dry. Working on it now and then and trying things to get it starting. Going to tidy up some bits on it like the front arches. Clean up the interior and all
You'd miss buying car parts!
Still cute though.

http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6488_zpstvjr9t9q.jpg
I miss when things were n/a and simple!
Did a compression test on her.
Should be between 100 and around 120 when the engine is cold. 1 cylinder was 100 and the rest were under 50.
Fuck.
The Internet says that sometimes piston rings can get stuck if the engine was sitting up for a while, which mine was. I think maybe a new engine is in order, one that was proven working. It'd be less hassle than trying to figure out if it's the HG or rings or valve seats and I'm getting fed up now.
Shit that sucks man! Your having a real run of shit luck with it! Try keep the motivation going it'll be worth it in the end!
Ah stop haha.
It's tough! Mightn't be able to get a new engine for a while anyway. And has to be one that hasn't been sitting up, that I know was recently running. Hopefully that will be the end of my problems.
After nearly putting up the turbo kit for sale, I'm going to give it another bash.
Plan is, engine out and stripped to put new piston rings in, new water pump and other necessary gaskets and seals.
Re make the intercooler piping so I can close the bonnet.
Remake the downpipe with a screamer pipe.
And I need a new starter motor 👍🏻
And my budget is near nill 💪🏼
so your just going to basically rebuild the current motor?
Probably the best bet as you never know what your going to get with a second hand engine that hasnt been ran in a long time.
Just as a matter of interest, are your HLA's very noisey? Mine have become a bit loud and tried putting in treatment for it, quietened down for a while, then I left it sitting for a month and was back to normal.
If you break it I'll take the hair products
Dave, yeah they are a bit noisy ever since i put the turbo on, however It is full of oil. Usually, you just need to top it up.
ah ok, it was STP I put through my oil. I'll try doing another oil and filter change to see how I get on and put the STP through again.
Everything in the bay is disconnected. Just need to disconnect everthing from the gearbox and she should be ready to take out!
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6631_zps9lve76ng.jpg
Grind down the manifold to make it flat. It was a bit warped. This should sort out the exhaust leaks under the bonnet. I plan on making a new downpipe with a screamer pipe if theres room for one.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6632_zpshfb0u8g7.jpg
Thinking up some ideas for a new intake too. The air filter was previously right beside the exhaust mani, sucking in all that nice hot air and exhaust fumes :( . Iv some straight 2" stainless there and Ill grab a short filter and throw it on.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6633_zpslnoeixb9.jpg
And, need to fit this, a christmas present from the girlfriends parents, to feel max race car.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6634_zps7o32imq1.jpg
Good newwws everyone.
I think the problem was awful timing and warn out starter. Bad news is I didnt have to take the engine out and now i need more fluids. Oh well.
Thats a balls you had to take it out to figure that out! But it's still cheaper than a rebuild!
Good news, the starter motor works. Bad news is the compression is still down. Good news is it's deffo a problem with either the valve seats or springs. So I just need to get the head looked over. Not a big job. But while I save, the engine will go back in. Who knows, it might start better with the timing corrected and perhaps a good spark of fuel will seat the valves back in. Or something.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6922_zpsheufifwk.jpg
Getting close now! Got the engine back in without a hitch and all thats left to hook up is exhaust, turbo and plugs. Still a bit of work to be done on the manifold.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6925_zpsazpytan0.jpg
Turning the key today . Fingers crossed.
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_6931_zpsysrhn97q.jpg
What's the story with it now?
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_7097_zpsupihzblg.jpg
Cracked a piston :( Running too lean I think.
Ill change it on friday or saturday in time for autoheroes.
You have some determination think I'd have binned it ages ago!ha fair play!
The feeling of boost is keeping me going haha. At the end of this I'll have a fully rebuilt engine from fixing all the parts !
pure sickener dude. stick at it though!
Cheers. It will live again.
Engine out.

Found This.

Changed it.
Engine back in.

In 6 and a half hours. Not bad for some lads in a shed and a halfrauds toolbox.
It has never ran so well. F*cking delighted.
So far, 100%. Boosting 7psi with a new map and it is mad fast. I'm in love.
Heres some shots from autoheroes. Cant believe how good it looks.

It's pretty much done for now. Going to enjoy it for a bit. Next on the list would be a fuel pump and a new roof, but theres no rush.
Bit of a launch. Stuck to the seat! https://youtu.be/Nr_BLG9WlMY

Saw ya revving this in mondello yesterday, the lads I was with were scratching their heads listening to the flutters out of it :D
Really really cool looking car in person too
Hahaha thats gas!
Thanks, man!
Sleepin' it real
Non mx5 or drift related, I just want to show people the sheer size of a citroen c4 vts back box.
About the size of your average house. The one on the right is an everyday humble aftermarket backbox.

Car is looking sweet, nice to see you sticking with it and rebuilding the engine, what arches are they? im looking into a set but dont know what route to take
STOP BLOWING IT UP lol
Good work man bring it to cork ASAP for a shoot
Thanks boys. Yet another engine will be bought soon, and it will be the last one! Or a new head, we'll see.
Cork is on my list of places never to go, but I could make an exception for races.
Also, they are from TheDriftShop on fb. Just cheapy universal ones and they are perf!
Update.
Got these.

Deadly.
Those coilovers look nice, similar to teins! Have fitted them yet?
Very nice.
Yeah fitted them last night, Dave. They look sick.
On the front, the wheel is tucked and I Havnt put any weight on it yet! So they might have to come out again to adjust preload/cool height.
Yeah you have them wound right down in the pic ha ha car is probably on the ground when you put weight on it! Ha ha
Be interesting to hear what the ride is like instead of the usual meister mx5 coilovera bandwagon.
Yeah it'l be interesting!
More pics of them installed.

Tiny update.
Got the new engine cleaned up and dropped in with the help of some mates. Started up first crank!
If I gain anything at the end of this, it will be that I can swap an mx5 engine over in record time !
http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q633/eoinmarkey/IMG_8377_zpspnchtzfi.jpg
Particularly happy with the colours, if anything!

Still have to mount the gearbox and diff up properly. Fiddle with the suspension a bit and get it mapped before its drivable. Getting there though :)
Spent the majority of a day underneath the car.
Got the diff in, ppf and the rest all bolted up. Dropped the car down, started it up and moved it. Delighted.
All seems well

At least the diff wasnt marked too much.
Jes you really have some patience! Fingers crossed for reliability this time!
Patience is thinning.
Had to change the water pump after that.
If anyone wants to offer money for this, go ahead!
Le update.
So since then I decided the hell with the turbo, I want ITBs. So I sold all the turbo bits. It was tough in the feels because I spent a year working on it and a lot of the parts I made myself. But I was mostly relieved.
My mate had a set of levin Blacktop ITBs laying about so I decided to use them.
Picked up a cheap second hand exhaust manifold that needed some welding.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170117/8a7c6232694a66af09c31b122be28c0d.jpg
I then got onto DanSt engineering in the UK to make up an adapter from the mx5 to the blacktop ITBs.
He was prompt and the quality is second to none. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170117/139b992bba479185c049777cff4c7cf9.jpg
Some modification was needed on the fuel rail. The lines where interfering with the ITBs. I cut off the return line completely and ran the fuel line straight from the FPR. I cut off the Inlet line and rotated it to it cleared everything and got it welded back on at work. I've no pictures of that at the moment.
The throttles went on with ease.

Since it wont be mapped using a MAP signal, I wasn't worried about the vacuums for each throttle, at least for now. So the two vac nipples on cylinders 1 and 4 were routed to the FPR and MAP sensor in the ECU (not sure if it's actually doing anything).
I'm using the throttle position sensor from the mx5 auto engine but it is to be mounted 45deg from a levin tps, so still need to make up a bracket for that. To get it running, it's just held on with cable ties.
The throttle cable was a bit of a Jeff but got it on and working with some gunthering. Most likely get one custom made at a leather time. It's on the list.
After getting a map from a mate with an ITB 1.6, I changed around the details and with fresh oil and plugs it started up easy enough. With some tweaks to the fuelling it starts and Idles happy enough for now.
I got some cheapy velocity stack that liven up the bay.

There's a few small bits to be done and then it's finally going off to be tuned. Not looking for big power. Anything over stock will be grand. I just want to drive the thing again!
Really happy with it anyway and it sounds amazing, the intake and the full straight through exhaust.
My plan is to have it on the road for the summer. And maybe sell it for the next project ( Queue massive regret).
