View Full Version : LarZ' Black R33
At some stage i will have owned every sporty model nissan every made, all in black...
Many of ye will recognise GaryAE86's (http://www.driftireland.ie/forum/showthread.php/44255-Garyae86-R33-Build) skyline which was also owned by the wheeler dealer that is Dave Daly.
It's now mine, and will be my daily while my PS13 (http://www.driftireland.ie/forum/showthread.php/38132-my-PS13-daily-driver) gets some TLC. I picked this up a few weeks back but was pretty quiet about it til now, other than annoying ye with 'wanted' ads on all over the place. The car needs some little bits, but with fresh NCT til September 2016 it's a great car in great condition. All i want to do to it is bring it to a high level of finish in a lot of areas. I have a list of flaws as long as my arm for this car, but it drives great, albeit an rb20e. Ye'll be seeing a good bit more of this over the coming months.
SPEC:
Spec 2 RB20e Manual R33
Lowered on springs
Buddyclub P1 17x9" wheels
Nardi Wheel (unsure of style)
Some aftermarket exhaust and cone air filter
Plans are:
1. Get RID of the stickers (queue complaints from JDM fanboys who LOVE THE STICKERS). I'm too old for that shite....
2. Change the seats. On the hunt for GTR seats. Easy to find, but i can't offer the owners enough money to part with them.
3. There's no boot trim. That needs to be sorted ASAP
4. Front speakers are missing. I'm going to put a decent sound system in this car as i miss having good speakers.
5. Some of the interior trim is scratched and worn. I'm going to try and replace those bits
6. There are some horrendous gauges in the car that need binning.
7. The exhaust is horrible. Droney and ugly.
8. The skirts and spats are poorly fitted. They need to be taken off and re-fitted.
9. Might change the wheels. They suit the car but I love dish, so not sure about them.
10. Needs some lows, but coilovers are expensive
11. Steering wheel needs tidying. Horn functionality and that needs to be restored. I can't be pressing a button under the dash to bip at young wans...
That's just a small list really. I'm already after sourcing some nice bits so i'll keep ye posted. Here is a pic. I refuse to take more before those stickers are gone.

cant wait to see what you do with it just dont sell it haha!
Have seen this about, I actually dont mind the stickers! Some dish would be nice :)
No stickers and a bitta chrome dish would be sexy
The stickers are painful to get off... all individual letters. I was out with the heat gun for about an hour yesterday evening and only managed to get 3 complete stickers off :p Gonna be a long process.

Get yourself a pinstripe wheel (aka Caramel Wheel). They should take the stickers right off. Search for one on eBay
Loads of tar remover let it sit for 15 min and they will nearly fall off!

What he said!
cheers lads. Will try the tar remover too. Wouldn't mind trying out one of those caramel wheels either though :p
I was going to buy this a couple of times when it was up for sale but never pulled the trigger. Best of luck with it. I really like r33's
Small update on this. Sourced some bits and starting to tweak the car to be more my style. I removed the rear wiper blank, re-instated the rear wiper motor. Must tidy up the wiper arm before i fit that again. Also got an oem antenna assembly as there was a rotten antenna from some other vehicle hatcheted in there. I'm trying to pick up original trim pieces just to make the car more complete. Although it's in decent condition, it has suffered neglect in some areas.

I removed the silly wattage meter that was in the dash and just threw in a cheapo cup holder thing.

I got wind deflectors but don't like the colour of them... might leave them off. not sure really.

The stickers were a BALLS to take off, but it's twice the car now:

Again, because i'm contrary, i didn't really see the big deal about the buddyclub p1s. They look good, don't get me wrong, but there are better options out there for me i think. That could just be my obsession with dish though. As you may have seen in my ps13 'build' thread, i had to swap the wheels on the two cars and surprisingly enough, the vienna kreis look very at home on the skyline, albeit my retarded tyre size choice (205/40/17) looks horrendous. I reckon 205/45/17 will sort out the fitment a bit. Here are some pics:

Next port of call is to take off the skirts and spats. The spats aren't that bad but the skirts are poorly fitted, poorly painted and just don't do anything for the car other than make it look lower. A car like this can't pull off the skirted look unless it has a bigger front bumper. Finding a spec 2 lip is pretty difficult too. It's going to look like a very high car... because it is... I don't know if i can justify the price on coilovers on this car either right now.
I admire the attention to detail in getting the covers for the seat rail bolts. It has improved a lot since you got it. Needs lowering in some form tho. Would springs do much for it? Be cheaper than the coilover route but leave it sitting better.
Really liking this. If you decide not too use the wind deflectors ill take them off you
@Davy it's already on lowering springs. I'll change the tyres on those SSRs first and we'll see what happens. My intention is to sell this on in 6 months so i don't want to dump money into it that i'll never see back.
Yeah i'll let you know about the wind deflectors @tomdh. It's a tough call really. I need to see what way i get the bodywork/wheels/height to sit right and then i'll see if it all works out.
I must also change that exhaust... looks like a cheap back box that was botched in to 'fit'. it's crooked and just doesn't do anything for the car. ye may also notice that someone at one point cut a 'matching' exhaust exit on the right hand side of the bumper. Lots that needs tidying on this.
picked up a few interior trim bits yesterday. Hope to swap over the insurance today so i can start driving this thing.
More details...
some bootlid trim

swapped out the poorly painted skyline panel for the spec 1 glass one. I'm sure there'll be opinions on this:

still looking for more trim as you can see, but have these pieces for now:

All minor updates and not as fun as most build threads, but this is the type of stuff that matters to me lol.
Also removed the skirts and spats because i prefer it without them, even though it looks like a monster truck. Bigger tyres are on the cards for those wheels too, just need to get the funds together...

Car seems too flow much better without the skirts, looks great! Dyin for a set of viennas for mine the look sexy!

I'm sure loads of people will have opinions on the skirtless look on a 33. I'm actually a little surprised you never see one without skirts. Yeah i quite like the wheels on it too. it's a fat car, so a fat looking wheel really suits it better than flat faced wheels in my opinion. The tyres on these wheels are only 205/40/17 which is a stupid size. i'm gonna go for a 215/45/17 on them to fill the arches a bit better. They'll be going back on the ps13 in the spring i reckon. These wheels are only 8jj too, which is great because it means i can still kick the rear out in second albeit a non-turbo.
Good progress larz but I think the painted skyline panel is better the glass panel and it's hard to tell about the skirts. Keep it up man.
Fuck bigger tyres, slam the bitch!!!
This is now for sale #sbody4life
aaaand it's gone. Great car, just not for me.
