Figured i may as well stick up a few pics of my r33.
Wont be everyones cup of tea but im happy with it.

Progress was slow at the begining being a full time student and as this was my first project I had a LOT of learning to do. Now with a new job progress has picked up quite a bit and the rb20e is being swapped for an rb25det neo in the next month or so.
not too much spec,
Cusco coilovers
Cusco diff
Work vs sd's
Uras kit
Vented wings
Deep dish wheel
Dildo gearknob
BeeR rev limiter
and a bucket seat.

Next plans are engine, weld in 60mm arch flares as mine are rusty, paint and suspension arms.
Let me know what you think, tips, or ideas are always good!

28-07-15, 15:39
this has to be the craziest non-turbo skyline!! say you'll love it even more after an engine conversion ;)

would it not be cheaper to just turbocharge the rb20?

tomdh
28-07-15, 16:53
Thanks for the comments! Yeah derek the doorcards are leopard print fur haha.
Adam i looked into doing it and the cost compared to power just didnt make sense really. Would have been left still wanting more!

Yeah tried to steer away from the typical r33 with gtr kit and rota grids! Rears are 17x10j and fronts are 17x8j or 9j. Not sure of et but nice amount of dish not too much!

The kit was quite good fit. Skirts need very small adjusting and thats about it!
Wanna get down to retro autos and see if the will weld flares on the rear for me.
Having a few set backs already with starting the engine swap which is quite annoying but ill work around it. Thinkin of paintin it too but very undecided on colour. Wanna keep it old school!

yeah iv heard good things about the quality of kits supplyed by them. and he seems to be in the business a long time. are you putting an rb25 into it??? would be the handiest option.
cant fault white, but yellow is cool. and not so common, have a look at this car on ebay in the uk at the minute. it looks cool.

Little update. The tax man decided itd be nice to rape me of 1300 euro.
This was money to pay for getting the engine put in. So im thinking of just goin in headfirst and givin the installation a go myself. Will not even bother trying to wire it myself tho. Anybody know of a garage around dublin with a space or maybe a crane I could rent?...

tomdh
24-08-15, 00:10
Well things have turned for the better, should have engine and prop shaft tomoro, still no joy on a gearbox but hopefully will source one within the next week and i can start this. Want it ready for japfest, could be optimistic... haha.
Few other bits on the way so getting excited now!
Suggestions for oil and gearbox oil? What do people use?

LarZ
24-08-15, 08:01
brave :) prepare for some late nights if you're looking to get out for japfest :)

Andrew200sx
24-08-15, 11:21
japfest would prob be optamistic......work out how long it will take to do the conversion, and double that, then tripple it again :).

miller oils are supposed to be good. alot of people use it.

tomdh
25-08-15, 16:05
I suppose japfest is quite optimistic haha.. cant even find a gearbox my heads driven mad
ill give miller a go cheers andrew!
In good news, my engine is here!!

25-08-15, 19:57
Not 1 bit bit optimistic you could have engine out and new one in ina day if ypu have everything....
Alot of people just think to much about it sit engine in have everything mated up and if you dont feel up to wiring it your self its ready to go to someone to be wired simple as really

tomdh
25-08-15, 20:40
Anyone know of a shed around dublin? Possibly dublin 15 area? Just a small one I could rent out or a vacant space? Time to attempt my first engine swap haha.

Andrew200sx
25-08-15, 21:50
if you are badly stuck i have an rb25 box here, needs a belhousing as theirs a hole in it, but getting all gears perfectly. u could also buy a blown box and take my internals out which is what i was going to do, ul get a blown box for about 100euro. i bought a recond box for my r33 and got it very hard to find one for sale, cost me 700euro and 200euro to pay a lad to fit it. il let my box go for 100euro if you are interested..

tomdh
25-08-15, 23:25
Have 2 people to call tomoro if they fall through ill probably take it man! Cheers!

derek89
26-08-15, 10:19
Try barrstown man, 15 minutes from blanch. U can get garages and containers(cheaper option) fella that owns the place is sound. His name is Jimmy. Me and the lads use to rent a place off him.

tomdh
26-08-15, 11:15
Great cheers derek!

tomdh
26-08-15, 12:03
Cant find anything on barrstown derek, have you a number for the place by any chance?

Come monday it was time to get started.
I never thought my bumper would fit inside a car....
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/Mobile%20Uploads/20150907_150831_zpszgeo3orj.jpg
Got it into the driveway with a lot of scraping...
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/Mobile%20Uploads/20150907_152533_zpsoqsveqpu.jpg
This being my first engine swap I was not best educated on what too do. I drained all the fluids, disconnected everything from the engine that i could to make space, diff is out, and engine box and prop should be ready to come out in the next couple of days.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/Mobile%20Uploads/20150908_154159_zpspyvrczma.jpg
Engine bay will be sprayed and treated for rust, some surface rust that needs attention
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/Mobile%20Uploads/20150908_125917_zpshv9onh0z.jpg

Its a big learning curve for me but im enjoying getting stuck in.
More too come

tomdh
15-09-15, 01:55
Got a bit more done today! New subframe painted and in! All the suspension arms back on so all thats missing from the rear is the diff.
I need shafts for the diff to bolt to the drive shafts if anyone has any? Goin into a cusco lsd and driveshafts are six stud!
Only took one pic as my hands were cold then it rained...http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/Mobile%20Uploads/received_1035711966452697_zpsus4f2j2i.jpeg~origina l (http://s51.photobucket.com/user/thomasdh94/media/Mobile%20Uploads/received_1035711966452697_zpsus4f2j2i.jpeg.html)

tomdh
16-09-15, 00:51
Cheers larz! Im really getting excited now. All going to plan tomoro and ill have the engine out and possibly new one sat in.
Anyone know if ill need a bigger starter motor?
Before this the biggest job I had done on a car really was changing a set of coilovers so im happy with progress so far. I do not have the head for wiring tho so ill leave to for someone to do. If I can get the engine and box in tomoro ill be almost there! Really keen to have it ready for japfest fingers crossed hai!
Two front wheels are off for a refurb with AAA custums at the moment so cannot wait to get them back!
pic for good measure....http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/Mobile%20Uploads/20150915_130413_zpsnvkrj2xc.jpg~original (http://s51.photobucket.com/user/thomasdh94/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150915_130413_zpsnvkrj2xc.jpg.html)

Ok so started work on the car at 5 pm yesterday. We were set on getting the engine in that day but there was loads to do before it went in. We ran into pretty much every problem we could have, had to actually pay a very nice man with a van to move the engine from my grandmothers to my driveway, then I forgot I needed a non neo flywheel like a mong, so just for japfest the 20 box and fly is on. Not ideal but im on a mission. We eventually got the engine into the bay, but were about a centimetre to far forward from the mounts for a solid hour and a half. Some serious shakin about and finally it went onto the mounts! At this stage it was 5:30am... this was mostly due to my lack of knowledge, but I could not be happier achieving that much in my driveway with that little experience. The push is on for japfest now!

5.30am? Id say the neighbours love you!! Fair play for getting that volume of work done without the experience before. Are you on a stand for japfest or do you want to go on the Driftireland stand?

tomdh
18-09-15, 19:02
Thanks lads! I am blessed with my neighbours they always show an interest! I was havin my doubts about it working out but now im gonna keep it full throttle on it.
Im not on any stamds yet davy!

Davy
18-09-15, 19:26
There's place there if you want to go on the driftireland stand. €10 prepayment gets half price entry for the day and car on the stand. Up to yourself anyway!

Davy ill take that spot! Just tell me how to pay!

starter motor in
prop shaft in
sort a diff...

Nothing like a bit of pressure! It'll keep you focused. If you call mondello and tell them you want to prepay for the driftireland stand they will take card payment or you can PayPal it to me, whichever you prefer. Pm me if you want PayPal details.

20-09-15, 01:59
Pm'd you davy!
Worked on her until about 1:30 tonight! Rad, power steering, alternator, prop, starter motor, gearbox mounts, all belts, are all in! Also got my wheels back from a refurb! Solid days work.

07-10-15, 16:41
Ok so that wiring guy just never showed up, and the week after that i started college, so there has been no progress since, because im lazy. I have collected a few parts though, Japspeed downpipe, ganador mirriors, wind deflectors and best of all a vip table/cupholder, which is the only r33 one in Ireland im told. So some nice jdm points there!
Got the motivation back now tho and wanna get crackin again!!

Hachi
07-10-15, 22:05
Tell me about it, College does make for an excellent opportunity to stockpile parts while the weather is shit. Really looking forward to seeing this when it's done.

Ok so not really any progress in the past couple of months, but ive gathered a few parts, including a fourth diff that SHOULD work!
Have the interior closer to how i want it now, all i need is a gator and some trim around the steering colum (let me know if you have either). Picked up some wind deflectors from a lovely lady in cork ;) a nardi wheel, welded diff, and other small bits, also got a vip table from stevo at drift bits, which is the only r33 one in ireland so cool points for me!!!http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/IMG_1625_zps2exv13zz.jpg

Being in college and work, i have absolutely no time to work on the car lately, so i have decided to have it sent off to be finished and finally enjoy it! Hopefully the next update will be it returning to me!

Also, opinions on a 326 wing?? havent seen one on a 33 before

Andrew200sx
24-11-15, 22:40
great idea with the rev counter ha. get some pics up of it.

opinion on a 326power wing, i think it would look perfect. it would go with the kit and look u have going on with the car. havnt seen one on an r33 myself, but they suit a 32 perfectly.

tomdh
28-11-15, 23:37
326 wing for xmas me thinks!!
I finally got a diff to fit this, threw it in today so the arse end of my car is no longer prolapsed all over my driveway.
Going to organise a time to have it finished with Jules Chambers on monday. The excitement is here, again.

tomdh
07-12-15, 18:57
Ok so bit of a change of plan, car is gone to Ciaran Synnott's to finish off everything! The gearbox will be swapped for the 25 box while its there which I am pleased about too! After meeting with him I had full confidence that it would be a good job he really know's his stuff! So now the car is finally out of my sight and will return better than ever!http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/IMG_1785_zpso1nsrjan.jpg

derek89
07-12-15, 23:59
Good to see it being sorted dude. Not much longer now

tomdh
08-12-15, 01:48
It was was put off for too long at this stage Derek! Been sat in the driveway 11 weeks with no real work done to it and with 20 hours a week in work and at least 45 hours in college, I just hadnt the energy or the time to do it myself! But as soon as I dropped it to Ciaran he knew exactly what to do in regards to wiring, was if he had done it before! not long now until I just enjoy it!

LarZ
08-12-15, 09:49
Going to be worth it when done!

Ciaran hit a bit of a speedbump with the wiring, he had it all done and ready to fire up, but the coils were getting no power. After inspection came about that it was an auto Ecu. We reckon the Ecu was looking for the car to be in P or N on an auto box so it wouldn't start. Another problem he saw coming up would be the abs unit is inside the neo Ecu, which could cause problems as my car hasn't got abs. So the solution was to get a r33 rb25det s2 Ecu and loom, which Rory supplied me with the following day! All that will need changing really is the pin outs for top feed injectors on the neo. Fingers crossed this is it!!! http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/image_zpsvbabplyj.jpeg~original (http://s51.photobucket.com/user/thomasdh94/media/image_zpsvbabplyj.jpeg.html)

The car is finally back on the road!!!
Ciaran Gem Synnott did great work on the car so many thanks to him! The engine is running sweet as a nut and everything else is perfect too. Its boosting at .7 now and it feels great. The only thing thats on my list to change is the welded diff to an lsd, the wheel hopping when I'm parking is a tad annoying! It really transformed the car and I couldn't be happier! I'm also glad too say I am now finished with making changes too the car (bar the diff) until I finish college next year. It had been a long, stressful journey, but 100% worth it. I'll throw the kit and everything on at the weekend and get photo's up then.

Boost is like the build up to Christmas as a child. Cant get enough of the turbo flutter!! Also it hangs so easily, and is really controllable! I was a bit nervous havin only driven something 300hp once and this time I've a welded diff, but I over thought it, its nothing but fun!!
All the interior is back together now, have to say I love it in there, all that's missing is some gauges but they'll come!

Cheers dave! The mirrors are s14 ones I think, so they dont fit great, but they are a hell of a lot better than the standard bricks that were hanging off it before! Plan to get a genuine set at some stage. As for the rear bumper, I'd like to get one, but doing this during college is just too much really, for now I just want to enjoy the car and spend a few quid on enjoying other things too! Havent even been able to buy a phone so I'm using a 20 quid chocolate bar that doesn't even have a working screen! When I finish college these things will get done along with a paint job!
I'm just glad that I could create the perfect r33 for me looks and functionality wise! It's a weight off me having this much complete, now its time to hit the sauce!

But the day did have a negative, on the way there, about half way, I was driving down the motorway and I heard a bang, followed by a loud whine, imidiatly thought gearbox. I got out and could smell gear oil already, so I began to cry. Then went to the back of the car and it was covered in oil. Looked underneath and was strangely releaved when I saw a hole in the backplate of my diff. The diff was still working, i suspect a bit of a weld broke off. So I said fuck it I'm going to mondello either way, its gonezo anyway. Arrived and a few lads had a look, all i got was oooohhhh... Haha. Drove it home and just pulled over every little while and topped up the oil in it. Took it slow and got it home!

30-03-16, 00:51
OK so I haven't been on in a while, but I'll give a small update of where I'm at right now.
On the positive side of things, I made it on speedhunters. Thats 1000 internet points too me.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/Mobile%20Uploads/received_1158339490851854_zpsoay3rf41.jpeg~origina l (http://s51.photobucket.com/user/thomasdh94/media/Mobile%20Uploads/received_1158339490851854_zpsoay3rf41.jpeg.html)

The car had a few flat spots from the plugs being sitting around so long, and also a pretty bad boost leak, which had been professionally fixed with tape.
So I got myself some hks iridium plugs and a new silicone connector and it's running smooth as ever now.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/received_1134356886588204_zpst2ucisys.jpeg~origina l (http://s51.photobucket.com/user/thomasdh94/media/received_1134356886588204_zpst2ucisys.jpeg.html)
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/received_1134232759933950_zpsumhynwba.jpeg~origina l (http://s51.photobucket.com/user/thomasdh94/media/received_1134232759933950_zpsumhynwba.jpeg.html)

And as for the negative... I got an impact gun yesterday, so I decided I'd test it and take my diff out and see if I could get away with just rewelding it and getting a new backplate. When I went to drain it, no oil came out, and the plug looked like this...
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/Mobile%20Uploads/received_1140398412650718_zpsc8kw9rw9.jpeg~origina l (http://s51.photobucket.com/user/thomasdh94/media/Mobile%20Uploads/received_1140398412650718_zpsc8kw9rw9.jpeg.html)

After seeing that, I knew there was no chance, but like any young curious man, I decided to stick my finger in the hole, and pulled out all of these.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f361/thomasdh94/Mobile%20Uploads/received_1140407869316439_zps7qvnwb7x.jpeg~origina l (http://s51.photobucket.com/user/thomasdh94/media/Mobile%20Uploads/received_1140407869316439_zps7qvnwb7x.jpeg.html)

So the diff is still in the car, and with the bit of sunshine we're getting lately I've an awful horn to drive it again.
So the plan now, being on a student budget, get an open diff, attempt to nct it, and then weld the diff properly if it passes nct and do a drift day. Then save for an LSD during summer. I can't take the waiting anymore!!

some dose man! A two way is the right job. Keep the open diff and you'll always be able to sell on the two way after. I know they're not cheap but they're a good investment. I need to buy one of those LIDL impact guns actually.

Between college and booking a holiday, I think I will have to go with an open diff for the time being, perfection takes time!!
