Early days yet for this, but i've decided to scratch my long term itch for a kouki 180sx. It's probably going to be a fairly long journey. I managed to pick up a 1997 kouki shell which many of you know as Martin Lenane's drift car. For a drift car it's in surprisingly great shape.

Here's the vision (what i'm hoping it will look exactly like when finished):

But, the reality is, here's what it looks like right now:

So on the plus side
All the locks match up to an original nissan key
There were Nissan Prince Fukuoka mats with it which are awesome
There was a non smoker box with it
It's period correct
There's a complete loom already plumbed
It has lots of stiffening. a pillar braces and seam welding

All in all it's a great base for an epic road car. I have all the bits there to slot into it so it should take too long, especially as i'm just getting someone else to do the work for me.

Plans are:

Get it driving/running
Kouki Kit (plastic)
RPF01s (gonna run viennas on it til i can afford the enkeis)
origin +30mm overs on the rear
spray it black
Drive it before the summer starts :) (famous last words)

That's an awesome base you have to start with. There shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't have it driving for summer.......overnight some parts from Japan :P

Can't wait to see how it progresses

I've almost got a full interior for it now. Some minor bits left. I have some nice kouki bits coming from jdmdistro soon. I was toying with the idea of over fenders as the arches are cut on the shell. But I just can't warm to the look of them with a kouki kit so I'm exploring options that would allow me to run standard arches.

While the chassis is fairly bare as it is, you might aswell strip it back to nothing and get it just freshened up and protected while its still good! It'll make working on the car a dream in the future!
Will be following to see how it goes :) If you want any tips or anything for doing refurbing underneath the car don't be afraid to ask me on fb larz, every little detail you do now, you'll always be grateful for in the future

Car is a bare shell still! I ordered some of these (stock overfenders) for the arches:

https://scontent-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/v/t1.0-9/531840_560098237344723_294504764_n.jpg?oh=93c9fbe0 603176035198778f30bd7b5b&oe=55C7709E

but when they arrived they looked like this:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/v/t34.0-12/11195419_10204243552630902_2051809802_n.jpg?oh=7a4 c5ab20a3d07b91701ab2c1ff0047a&oe=554C1614&__gda__=1431129029_8b19227d4fe83afc17bec7c639e258c 0

So now i have to return them... I'm worried about them to be honest because they're so thin. I think i might just go with 30mm overs after all

magic areo stock 1 is it ???

yep, but in their defence is seems to have been caused by the shipping crowd. The material is very very thin and flimsy so i'm a little worries all the same.

Still not settled on the right overs and wings for the car. First world problem really. On the bright side I have a complete interior now, I ordered my brand new front 5 stud hubs and have the complete plastic kouki kit.

I had only heard good things. Wish I hadn't bothered buying them now... The hassle of sending them back just annoys me...

This thread is no more... I gave up on this project due to the costs involved. However, i now end up in a situation where i do own a 180 again, just not a kouki... At least the one i have now runs and drives :)
