So a while ago I bought a 180sx rolling shell of stevo, and between living away, losing interest, regaining interest and gathering funds/parts I'm just starting into it now nearly 2 years later.
I plan on doing as much work on it as I can myself, but with only basic mechanical knowledge I will be needing help along the way.
Progress will be slow but I hope to get a few hours at it each week,

Anyways this is the car,
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/10nyryb_zps903f52ae.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/10nyryb_zps903f52ae.jpg.html)

Plan for the car is to have a clean, well spec'd, reliable road car, I have most parts bought for it bar a few bits.

Anyways first off get the car into the shed,

The lift, handy enough
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/20140602_1453051_zps89781d8b.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/20140602_1453051_zps89781d8b.jpg.html)

Cows go out, car comes in,
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/20140602_1837331_zpsb0920534.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/20140602_1837331_zpsb0920534.jpg.html)

So over the last few evenings got at subframe with angle grinder and wire wheel, primed and sprayed it,
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/20140609_2127431_zps1ceced65.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/20140609_2127431_zps1ceced65.jpg.html)

And in with poly bushings, I had intended to run an s14 subframe but couldn't find offset poly bushings so that plan got scrapped.

anyways that's all for now, next on the list it to tidy up the underside and get it shutzed before subframe goes back on.

So today got an hour at cleaning the underside of this with angle grinder and wire wheel, need to spend another while at it yet,
Gonna give it a coat of shutz when i've it cleaned down fully,
Should I give the bare metal a coat of primer before the shutz or is there any need?
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/Mobile%20Uploads/20140610_213027_zpsvkep6kb7.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140610_213027_zpsvkep6kb7.jpg.html)

So last couple of weeks were spent getting my s14 through Nct, passed second time round :D
in the mean time took delivery of these, heard good things about them
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/20140629_115542_zps30c984ec.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/20140629_115542_zps30c984ec.jpg.html)
Anyway got back to working on the car, rear underside stripped back, zinc primed, painted and shutzed, (wheel wells not done in this pic)
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/20140624_185314_zpsb37cf499.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/20140624_185314_zpsb37cf499.jpg.html)
Fitted subframe, adjustable arms and copper greased and fitted coilovers,
I'm not 100% happy with the adjustable arms but they'll do for a while until I save up for a set of decent arms, Kaber performance stuff looks decent.
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/20140629_205622_zpsf5e22471.jpg (http//s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/20140629_205622_zpsf5e22471.jpg.html)
Threw on 4 stud hubs just to get it back rolling, have s14 5 stud hubs and lca's there just going to clean them up and polybush them before there fitted,
Which driveshafts should I use, s13 or s14 or does it matter?

jonnyrb
14-09-14, 17:40
So I didn't get anywhere near as much time with this over the summer as I would of liked too, finished up work on friday and back to college so hopefully get a bit more time at it now,
Finished up the underside, all stripped back, zinc primed, painted and shutzed, I also cavity waxed the sills, , rear quarters, chassis rails etc.

Replaced front subframe and rack with a s14 one I had lying around as the original subframe was fecked, fitted s14 lca's with new ball joints, new oem tie rod ends, new front coilovers, s14 5 stud hubs, new adjustable tension rods and replaced steering bushing for an aluminium one.

Next job get engine bay tidied up and sprayed

jonnyrb
23-12-14, 19:09
Got the bay sorted, needed a bit of work where it was hacked for an intercooler pipe, also got few cracks sorted, a/c hole into the cabin closed and tied up where loom enters the bay, ive no experience with a welder or spray gun and wanted it done right so got a man to do it for me, couldn't be happier with the result.

Hit a hiccup with this with wiring, I thought it was a plug and play job but when I went to put the loom into the car i found out that that wasn't the case, so ended up having to remove some of the wiring from a 180 engine loom and adding it to the S14 loom, also had to change the interior connection to suit the 180 interior loom and trace the left over wires and find a home for them. It was a job i didn't want to do, but anyways fingers crossed it works now and I don't have to go fault finding.

http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/Mobile%20Uploads/20150112_130540_zpsejfinxvd.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150112_130540_zpsejfinxvd.jpg.html)

Had a viscous diff lying around from an S14 i broke, so changed the backplate and modified the bushings to suit the s13 subframe and fitted it.
Also freshened up, cleaned out and fitted the petrol tank.

Put the loom engine loom into the car, fitted brake and clutch master cylinders's and brake lines, took the florescent pink off the engine which i wasnt gone on and then fitted it with new hardrace engine mounts.

Gonna have to find a new home for the power steering reservoir, will be in the way of the intercooler pipes, also have to get a new gasket between turbo and manifold and point the exhaust from the external wastegate down the way.

Good to get the engine in, starting to feel like I'm making a bit of progress now.

So new job and final year in college has this slowed well down but anyway got intercooler fitted,http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/Mobile%20Uploads/20150227_134513_zpspawzv41h.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150227_134513_zpspawzv41h.jpg.html)
plumbed up the fuel, connected the ecu, z32 afm and battery, turned the key, engine cranked and hey presto... nothing.. , 1st thing I checked was fuel and wasn't getting any, so left it at that for tonight, Ill investigate over the weekend and try have it sorted by next week. hopefully thats the only reason it wont start now.

jonnyrb
13-03-15, 14:26
Went at this for an hour today, checked fuel pump relay, wasn't coming in, I swapped ecu's, still nothing, so I've some wiring issue there. I bypassed the fuel pump relay and still nothing, checked voltage both sides of the pump and I had 12v on both sides so I reckon I've an earthing issue there,
wired pump directly to battery, turned engine over and it fired, YYUUPP!
Still have to adjust fuel pressure and a few other bits but its running anyway.

http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/Mobile%20Uploads/th_20150313_132532_zps9s0imqwd.mp4 (http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/Mobile%20Uploads/20150313_132532_zps9s0imqwd.mp4)

How does the ecu control the fuel pump relay? does it provide 12v or a ground to the relay?

jonnyrb
21-03-15, 09:38
Sorted the wiring on this, was just a couple of wires needed grounding, starts on the key now
Props gone off for shortening, gearbox and diff oil are due today, just need to get brakes sorted and boost controller fitted and shes off for respray then. Anyone have brakes for me??

Cleaned down the calipers back to metal and resprayed them, fitted them along with new HEL braided lined,

Just need to make up a new brake pipe that goes along under the car, bleed the systema and do a bit of adjusting on the drum set up and thats the brakes fineto.
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/f5582af6-78ae-4f80-92e9-b82f6a0b1af1_zpsj36wwycz.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/f5582af6-78ae-4f80-92e9-b82f6a0b1af1_zpsj36wwycz.jpg.html)

Also picked up a Matt Lewis braided clutch line and fitted it, removing the damper in the process, bolted up the slave and bled the system, done a bit of adjusting at the pedal to get it working properly and i happy with the feel of it now I think

Cheers man, hopefully now, still a long way to go yet.

So last week sent r33 wheels off for powder coating, picked them up this week, delighted with them, metallic finish is unbelievable,
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/r33%20gtrs_zpskv7xujqb.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/r33%20gtrs_zpskv7xujqb.jpg.html)
Picture does no justice to them.

Buttttttt,

While these were getting powder coated what is, in my opinion, the perfect wheel for a 180 came up for sale and I could not pass up the chance to have them, so Tuesday morning I picked these up.

http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/rpf1_zpsgkknlkyd.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/rpf1_zpsgkknlkyd.jpg.html)

Enkei Rpf1's, 17x9 et22 all round, there like new, no marks, delighted with them, so these will be going on the car,
In 2 minds what to do with the gtr wheels, intend to own an r32 at some stage so i'll either keep em for down the line or sell them.

So got a call yesterday from the panel beater to say that the car way ready, so hopped into the van and had a look,
I'd heard good things about the man, so I was expecting a good job and thats what I got, paint looks like what you would see on a new car and the kit and panels look like factory fitted,
Expensive job but you get what you pay for. Delighted with it.

Picked it up today and brought to its home for the winter,
I had a look around at a few sheds to rent for the few months but there was nothing suitable, either too small way too expensive or looked like the wolf from the 3 little pigs would knock them down.
Settled on a bay in the slatted shed at home,
Going to get a few of them gym mats to make a floor or half my tools will end up in the underground tank, and some sort of cover.

http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l609/jonnysr20/Mobile%20Uploads/20151203_182515_zps9nrm37yx.jpg (http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/jonnysr20/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20151203_182515_zps9nrm37yx.jpg.html)

Looking at it today made me realise how much work is involved in finishing this,
Gonna make up a list of what needs to be done or I'll just be jumping from one job to another.

Brakes are up first anyway. Calipers are sticking so I'll have to rebuild them.

Nice build lad :) Looking forward to seeing it progress!
Is it black now or just looks that way in the picture?

Cheers Falla, Shes black, with 3 good coats of lacquer.

Nice, planning on going black with my 13- light years away from paint though.

Wouldn't mind having to choose from either of those set of wheels
