You need to get e36 6 cylinder engine mounting brackets, sump and dipstick, the engine loom should be ok withe the ecu's on the same sides. The power steering pump will probably need to be botched usually there's a difference in the lines.other than those it should bolt up.

what about gearbox mount and propshaft?any idea
Gearbox should be the same, think the mounting points are different so you'll prob need the gearbox cross member from the e36. Prop will be different as the cars are fifferent sizes. I assume the 523 is e34 model? If not you could be in trouble
I think the 523 only came out in the e39 model?

The 523 should be e39 there was no e34 523, your e36 gearbox even if it's four cylinder has the same stud pattern as the 6 cyl block. Really the biggest problem is the powersteering and you'll have to get e36 exhaust manifolds and exhaust too. I forgot about those.
The gearboxes for the 4 cylinder even though it bolts up and works it is different so it might not last long if your doing wreck in it, same goes for the prop and half shafts and diff.
Your biggest problem is the electrics on the m52tu or m54.
Better off with an e36 engine to start with.
The work involved in getting that engine to run in an e36 outweights the cost of an e36 engine to begin with.
Dont waste your time imo

i see your point alright,i might just sell the 523 on again tbh
Well lad, ive a full 323 e36 here that im breaking. the engine is supposed to be good, but theres some problem with the wiring in it. If you wanted the engine, or even the bits to swap onto your engine.
