Havent seen it done personaly but thats all the more reason to try it. I couldnt see there been any real major problems as the sr is a nice compact engine ane a 36 has a good size engine pay. Dont no much about nissan wiring but it shouldnt be bad as the sr engines are put in everything now a days.

Ya the only thing i could think of that might cause trouble is the sump but it might be sound. As smart and all an nct men think they are there actually thick as shite if the see a 4 pot engine in the bay they wont no any different just pull the spark plug cover off. Insurance would be all that iad be worryed about

The sump is a bigger problem then you think. An whats so hard about the gearbox? ?

All that work to put a less powerful engine than an m3 engine in??

That's probably why there's not too many of these around.

Well the sr box is very long and the have a short shaft to the diff but what axle do you run and you have to change mounts and make up your own, there's a lot more work then you think involved.i would also think the s chassis back axle is a lot bigger...but in reality it makes a lot more sense to fit an m3 engine, cheaper, less messing about, na power and a lot more of it too!

I sump not big problem for me lol but some one eles haha and I will get a pro to sort out the loom as that can be a nightmear as u said its going to be a road car awell as for gear box wasn't sur if it would fit as its a lot bigger

It was done by a lad in Wexford A few years ago it is doable all right

Mabe I just build the 200sx instead then sell the 318is and buy an m3 for the road

That would be best.

When there's lads putting E36 engines into S13s and S14s now rather than keeping the SR20... it might mean something :p

It would probably end up cheaper and easier to build a turbo 318is engine than all the work to make a bastardised SR E36 with decent power. An M42 can take about 400bhp with just the basics like headgaskets, bearings and bolts and there's E36 318ises about with 500+ with the only changes internally being low-comp pistons.

If it was me, I'd be doing something like that if I wanted big power from a 318is but in an E36, there really is no reason to not just a 6 cylinder

A standard S13 or S14 or even some with the basic mods is slower than a good 328 not to mention an M3 so in my opinion, you'd be on the back foot from the start.

It would be different and nice to see done but I can think of better engines to put into it :)
