Went cutting the front springs on the 523 today! Cut off half a coil and when we put the spring back onit wasnt sitting correctly in place on the top as was thicker than where it rests!? Was wondering could it be heated and bent into place to sit right? Thanks

All that messin for feck all, 100quid for lower springs?? Best off cutting a whole coil off, half a coil only messes up the spring alignment in the top mount!

if you don't understand the principles, don't go fucking near it end of.
a spring has i higher tensile strength on the ends and the ends are flat to sit on the shock, and sit with the top mount, now you've basically made your spring easier to go out past the top mount and or slip out of the way and eat into your tire.
Well done, you've doubled your initial job :o

cut half spring off, cable tie it roughly back in place, cruise around like a gangster until you get so sea sick that you replace them with lowering springs. haha

we did on the first attempt and it was even worse as the width of the coil was even bigger as you went down along it hence why we only cut half a coil, its just a cheap drifter for tynagh amd think this will be the last outing in it :) going to chance heating it and if it doesnt work just get standard springs and leave it as it was haha

The problem here is........you cut the bloody springs. Saying its only for Tynagh doesnt make it any safer!

Had cut springs in the back for the last 4 track days between watergrasshill and tynagh and no problems!, probly will just buy spring and leave it as standard!

When i say heat the spring it is only the top about a inch or 2inches of coil that is not sitting right that i cannot get the topmount on properly so shouldnt weaken it too much surely??

why do people think cutting springs makes them better? it lowers your car, THATS ALL IT DOES. it doesn't make it stiffer its the same feckin spring but the difference is now its lower and more likely to knock, bang, and just handle like shit.
aren't coilovers really cheap to get for bimmers off ebay? and loads of people use them? fk i think. might be a shit brand but makes a hell of a difference for the money. your just wasting your time, energy and electricity cutting the springs
