View Full Version : ARP studs pulled threads from block
My mechanic was puttin my engine together yesterday following arps instructions, hand tighten the studs down, then using assembly grease on the end the nut goes on. Brought the torques up 20ft lbs, 50ft lbs no problem the doing 80ft lbs, first two in the centre were no problem but number 3 pulled threads out of the block and felt like number 4 was going to do the same . Has anyone encountered this problem before or do people use nissan torques? Engine is a sr20det and happened doing the mains.
Is it no engine oil instead of assembly grease suppose to go on the threads?
It's 70ft/lbs for mains,, and he must of went way over torque for that to happen or cross threaded them because iv built a lot of engines and know a lot of engine builders and never heard of this happen. He done something wrong.
Iv heard of a lad doing it before your block is now scrap.

Surly you could helicoil it. Once you use studs rather than bolts it should be fine

Sig worthy!!
i have blocks here if ur stuck
Might make a coffee table out of it. Putting it down to over torqued should have tested the wrench before and not after . Block got nd gone for reboring this week.

Id be interested in a coffee table
Well it might be worth recalibrating it
you need to over bore the damaged hole and re tap it to say "m12", go to a machinest/tool maker and say you want a threaded sleive of 4140 to Match your over bored hole and your arp stud diameter. Will cost €50 max, thread lock the sleive in place with high temp loctite just below if not flush with the surface,
