Well as most of yas said "you'll be back some day" , here i am...:)

decided to give this burning tires and money crack another bash. As with the 180 i had ill be working off a very small budget and add bits as i can..

This time i decided to go with a s14a a car ive never really been mad about but how and ever. I picked this up in Galway last night and happy enough so far but will be doing my own little bits and bobs to keep me occupied..

the spec from what i seen working on it today is:

96 s14a (originally n/a now runnin 180sx black top)
xs power top mount turbo kit with external waste gate
coilovers
fmic
downpipe
3inch exhaust to back box
silly long shotguns
r33 front brakes
front drilled n grooved discs
goodridge front brake lines
comp brake hydro
bolt in cage
walbro pump
boost gauge
omp wheel
trs 5 point harnesses
trs tow straps
racaro fixed drivers seat
sparco passenger seat
dmax top window spoiler
s14a uk spec bumper and skirts
50mm wider front wings
18inch AMW shallans
vented carbon bonnet of some kind
bonnet and boot pins
20mm bolt rear spacers
20mm bolt on front spacers

plans in the short term are to tidy it up a bit and running well... I am collecting a 2871r on friday. its got the .86 housing and will be coming with adjustable actuator, braided lines, heatwrappped mani elbow and downpipe. Then the following friday im getting nismo 555cc injectors and fuel pressure regof the same guy. Then ill have to find a z32 when funds allow and gt it mapped. the plan after than it to start replacing suspension arms and gettin more lock and lastly i want a front bumper and skirts (not uras) and run the car with standard rear bumper and enjoy it..

here it is anyways was filthy from roads back from galway to cavan

Gettin a few little bits done on this in the evenings. i removed thhe xs power top mount turbo kit the car came with and I went to cork last friday night and collected my new turbo. I got a garrett 2871r with a .86 rear housing. I also got a hks adjustable actuator, sard 550cc injectors, braided lines ,fuel pressure regulator, heatwrapped manifold and heatwrapped elbow off the same guy.. He told me the turbo only done 2 practise days and he only sold it as he is putting a chevy v8 into a 180 he is building for next yr. At the min the v8 hes using is 7.4litres but he hopes it will be 8.2litres when he is done.anyways enough bout that.. I also got new hks mushroom filter off my brother replacing the battered and bent apiro induction kit that was on it..

dont think i could have gotten a fresher turbo unless i bought new has minimal play in the shaft practically none
http://i39.tinypic.com/rsg7bp.jpg

injectors along with fuel pressure regulator
http://i39.tinypic.com/10ojjpu.jpg

turbo in and fitted , had to move coolant bottle to other side to allow room for filter..
http://i44.tinypic.com/oi6cmb.jpg

whilst under the car checking for leaks etc i seen that the down pipe was actually Trust and found out the bonnet and front wings are Chargespeed so happy at that
http://i41.tinypic.com/5k3fbo.jpg

as part of makin the car my own and wanting to tidy it a bit i stripped everything out to begin the process of repainting the interior. I also moved the hydro from passenger side as i rather it closer to me...

http://i42.tinypic.com/33m3i2f.jpg

IM UNDECIDED ON WHETER OR NOT TO REMOVE ALL HEATING EQUIPMENT. I DONE IT IN THE 180 AND THE WINDOW WAS FOREVER FOGGING UP IN THE WET. HOW DO YOU GUYS WHO'VE REMOVED THE HEATING GET AROUND THIS PROBLEM??

Here's the inside after its all been cleaned down and primed up. Its not going to be anything fancy just going white, same white as outside as it looks clean..

http://i39.tinypic.com/n38zs6.jpg

hope to have this painted up on monday or so weather permitting as im working outdoors....

Got a bit more done on this recently its a slow process. I got the paint code used by previous owner and treated the inside and roof etc to a fresh lick of paint.

http://i39.tinypic.com/ehf212.jpg

I also cut apart the drivers side seat rail as im 6ft 2 and was too high up and too far forward .So the seats now mounted directly to the floor so im now sitting nice and low

http://i43.tinypic.com/iz8bbc.jpg

http://i42.tinypic.com/2m2vu39.jpg

I cut a square out of chequer plate to make a heel rest and foot rest in drivers foot well and made some simple doorcards outta some corri-board.
http://i42.tinypic.com/2nlfwd4.jpg

http://i43.tinypic.com/11uc8px.jpg

Picked up a 350mm qsp suede wheel with 90mm dish aswell as small fire extinguisher(doesn't need to be fia approved for practise days) from mcg.
Having mounted my seat I may have mounted it bout 2inches too far back for my arms to be comfortable so picked up a snap off boss to kill 2 birds with one stone
http://i44.tinypic.com/4lgexg.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/hwiygx.jpg

bought these vetex used skirts off pete nice and cheap and just need a lil tidying and picked up some 50mm chargespeed rear over fenders off brian in driftkits

http://i41.tinypic.com/2qnzble.jpg

http://i44.tinypic.com/dowi6s.jpg

at the minute im tidying the fibreglass bits and prepping the new bits for paint them ill be starting to get kill switch and flick swithes for lights etc wired up

been a while since updating this, things taking lot longer than i planned plus was away from the car house sittin for a month so didnt see the car.

Anyways, i got all the body parts i gathered and fixed / prep'd them for paint.
http://i42.tinypic.com/jrwemw.jpg

i in heinsight went the wrong way about this but knew no different anyways its done.i cut the outer arch skin, cut tabs into inner skin, folded em out and seal and filled the arch instead of folding back on itself and just sealing

http://i41.tinypic.com/30w06kn.jpg
http://i39.tinypic.com/2cr3o5y.jpg

i have to say the chargespeed overfenders from drift kits fit perfectly and cover the damage the car had at the bottom of rear pockets so im very happy and think the vertex skirts i got from peter t work well with them

next on the agenda was starting to sort out the handling and began gathering arms etc.

Got a great deal off stevo on some d2 rear camber arms , d2 tension rods and some ikeya formula traction arms.
http://i39.tinypic.com/e71jkm.jpg

the arms were all good an straight but mouldy lookin but me bein me had to tidy them. suppose if ya cant afford new ones try make the old ones look new lol.

good as new
http://i43.tinypic.com/iwssih.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/10z4tu1.jpg

i also got some near new japspeed inner tie rods and ends and fitted them along with the tension rods
http://i40.tinypic.com/2qsukd3.jpg

got some good cheap 60mm gauges off adverts all new in boxes for €40 and bout some holders for €5 euro each. There called pro plus and i wanted to get a new boost gauge as my one is in psi and oil pressure, so i emailed the company who are sending me the gauges for free
also the car came with some wafer thing carbon look plastic and i wanted to use it as my switch panel so put some strips of fibreglass on the rear of it so its good and rigid an strong now
http://i40.tinypic.com/4hyvcm.jpg

i was never a fan of full matchin kits so went for this origin streamline front bumper not too aggressive so thats what i wanted. ill be runnin the rear bumper as standard
http://i42.tinypic.com/n3q3q0.jpg

my favourite bit so far is the new wheels, i had a set budget of what i could afford and wanted somethin with good fitment in 17s, but nothin came up so when these 18 inch 526s came up at good mon ey i hopped on em there
18x9 et25 and 18x10.5 et20. I Managed to work a deal that seen me getting some brand new rear rubber and some barely worn maxsports for tthe front. i think the suit the car down to the ground but still need some spacers for rear.

Was the plan from day 1 pal

things have hit a real go slow on this lately between savin deposit for house to rent etc.. just been pricking about with small bits really.

i removed the rear subframe, burnt out the rubber bushes and fitted the TDP solid subframe bushes, i also fitted the arms i got off stevo and the anti roll bar donated by silvertooth after i got the subframe back from bein sandblasted. i just gave it a lick of paint to tidy it up.
http://i43.tinypic.com/zso16t.jpg

with the subframe fitted,i got car on all 4 wheels for the 1st time and was a lil unhappy with how it sat, so i fitted some slip on spacers and lowered the rear a tad
http://i39.tinypic.com/2is9urq.jpg

http://i43.tinypic.com/1z3t2tf.jpg

while the car was on a all 4 wheels i made up a lil mock drag wing outta some corriboard i had left over. I made a similiar style to the one on frenchies old zenki 14. in the end i like how it looked so decided to make one up but with a little flick at the end..

http://i43.tinypic.com/96w9dx.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/2465pht.jpg

heres the actual spoiler done but will be painted . I think it looks well.

there was no point in me gettin into buyin a trailer an tow wagon again etc as i drive small rigid daf and it has a larger than normal taillift and air suspension in the rear so took some measurements and got onto brendan and john stone in grip fab and 3 days later these ramps were good to go.Car goes up first time with no rubbing whatsoever so this is my drift car transporter now.. Thrilled is an understatement

em dunno bout power has, z32,550s, fpr, walbro and 2871r with .86 housing and all other basics so im guessing 330bhp ish

front bumper is origin streamline bumper. Body panels are all mix n match brands

this thing is pretty sick! i personally feel that it either needs some sort of aftermarket rear bumper or just a rear diffuser and it would be perfect

02-12-13, 19:33
well finally got my first day out in the car after owning it and tidying it up and making it my own over the last 6 months..i set myself a date to have the car out and in the lead up to it finances too a hit so struggled to get out. I had made a date with richard bradley to book the car on a nistune ecu. Before mapping i knew i needed a boost controller so purchased an apexi avcr which turned out to be faulty. i managed to borrow a new controller for mappin off Big P on her so big thanks to him for that. while up in bradleys we had few issues with airlow meter and fuelling but richard got her sorted. She was going well till 4th gear where clutch started to slip badly. Richard couldn get it to the 1.4bar he hoped for so mapped it to 1bar as that was the most boost he could get a reliable map at. Having said that he reckons its bout 340bhp at that, but i will be going up after xmas for the adjusments needed for 1.4 bar.

With the car mapped an being able to be moved i took car for a spin. Deathtrap was the only word i could use to describe it. I had 2 pistons siezed on passenger front caliper and 3 pistons on the drivers side. Also due to the arms i bought the alignment was all over the shop. So i got onto a local mobile alignment guy i used for my trucks and asked him wat he can do for my car. He never did a car before and seen it as a leaarning curve for him so he took the job on. He used the "Truck cam or Wheel cam " alignment system and got the settings i requested to a t and he came to my shed too.

with the alignment done and mapping done i thought i was set for its debut till taking the car for a spin again. It drove great but began slipping in 2nd. So i knew a clutch was needed.(all this 2 days before mondello) I was broke so done some wheeling and dealing with wheels etc an got a new flywheel and exedy 3puk. I also was given a exedy pressure plate off john hickey the day before mondello and thanks to greg an kelly they got it from waterford to bray for me. so i tackled the clutch myself (silly me) gettin the box in broke my heart. So myself and 2 of the lads had it done by 1am on sat and they went home. I went to move car and clutch didnt work. I was gutted but told to bring car to mondello regardless and thanks to john hickey again he had it sorted while i was in briefing. so without him i wouldn have driven at all on sat..

the car itself is totally different to my sil80. Took a while to get used to the extra 80bhp extra or so. But once comfortable i was flyin and had my best ever day in a car with not 1 mechanical issue. i was thrilled and the drifting bug is definately back big style.

The only vid i got from sunday was this very first session, where i drove worst. Car all over the place with understeer really gave me no confidence ,also my inability to grab 3rd gear on occasion (must print off a map for that) and a blown turbo gasket half way thru. All in all a good day :-)

I have list of jobs i wanna do mostly small things so been working away at them..

also have a new rad sorted for drift car and as with the canards the other small jobs i wanted to do was to flip cooler over and move it behind slam panel. So cut away wat i needed to and got mounts welded to cooler core and fitted it all up. looks to be much better job and will obviously make cooler pipes shorter also just painted up the surrounds to make it look fresher..

WELL TIME TO UPDATE THIS TO WHERE AND HOW IT CURRENTLY LOOKS AND STANDS.

ILL TRY REMEMBER AS MUCH AS I CAN

Well after the last update I uploaded here I had done another day in mondello but unfortunately for me not long into the afternoon session the car began to blow smoke so I immediately headed fore pit lane and feared the worst. Being a simple guy and clueless about most working of a car engine I began by removing the boost pipe coming from the turbo. There I seen some oil residue in the cooler pipes. I had called Brendan stone over and after having a feel of the play on the turbos shaft he confirmed that it had met its demise. This was a kick in the teeth for me as I already hadn't been out in this car as much as id of liked as wasn't comfortable in the car at this point. I knew this turbo issue could only be resolved in one of 2 ways, either by being rebuilt or purchasing a new unit and either way due to my living situation of renting a house alone i knew it was outta action for a long time.

I decided to send the turbo which i had already disassembled to OWENS DEVELOPMENTS to see could the turbo housings be saved and just meaning id have to buy the turbo core but unfortunately the scoring of the housings was too bad so i was left with no choice but to buy a new unit. I had bought the turbo that blew used and was told it was a garrett 2871r but owens developments had comfirmed it was infact a smaller garrett 2860. This was a little annoying but in the end i decided to go for a new garret 2871r with the larger .86 housing. This turbo would be a lil more laggy than the usual .64 the turbo comes with but i knew it would make good power.

While the saving for the turbo was taking place i had decided the car didn't look good enough. Its not secret that i never did and still don't like s14s id nearly go as far as to say i hate them ,but there was no other car to buy at the time in my budget. So if i was gonna buy one i wanted it to be an aggressive obnoxious looking ******* of a thing. So i started with the wheels i didn't wanna go all out and paint them so i got a few tins of black plastidip to see how all black wheels would look. I was chuffed and made a huge difference to the car so i got them powdercoated in satin black..

I then decided to remove the tacky blue tint on the headlights and replaced it with a more aggressive black tint. I then seen a pic of an fd rx7 with some cool front wings so it gave me an idea for my chargespeed front wings, an idea that involved filler and a grinder and some metal plating lol

was extremely happy with the outcome, I then changed another part of the car I hated and that was the chargespeed carbon bonnet. I sold it and replaced it with a dmax rep bonnet from ep racing in the uk..

With the car looking a Lil more aggressive and with the arrival of the new turbo I decided to move the intercooler up out of the way to somewhere a Lil bit safer and less exposed. I measured up the space directly in front of rad under front panel and it was a perfect size for my intercooler core. So I flipped the core upside down and mounted and modified the intercooler pipes to suit the new location and it turn making the pipes much shorter and neater looking

When all was fitted and running with no leaks I set a date with Richard Bradley to adjust the cars map to suit the new turbo and the tomei 256 cams I discovered were fitted to the engine. After this map with a boost setting of 1.2 bar Richard reckons it's easily 380-400bhp so that's enough for me.
