Any time I'm bleeding car in work always just fill up rad fill up expansion bottle start car run car till fan cuts in and temperature gauge on dash up to normal then just release rad cap slowly top up the rad turn on interior heaters full belt draw as much air as possible out then just check if ya need to suck some back out of expansion bottle..
Not sure of its the same as e36 or not but you've to jack up the front of an e36 to get it to bleed properly. I just drive the front of the car up onto the trailer.
