got the front striped off and decided i needed to cut out the front slam pannel rad sapports and lower panel. so made up 6 brackets so the full front can be bolted on and off so glad now i did would only be fuck acting without it

mike e30

also removed the brake servo and master cylinder will have to sort some thing with them later but for now there out.
test fitted the engine 1st without the headers. to see what bits i had to remove 1st was actualy fine fit it without them. just one or 2 little bits
like clutch and powersteerin bottle brackets

Nice! Can't see why more people don't use the V8s in E30s over here!

Any ideas yet on the brakes yet? You going to mount the servo again or go with a pedal box?

Best method of using the pedal box or at least the neatest was using it up in the battery tray or else putting it in behind the glove box

Cheers dave have been focusin mostly on the manifolds yet
But thought I would go the pedal box routh but was thinking now I might be
Able to mount the servo back wards behind the dash on the passengers side kinda
Where its originally just on the inside facing inwards

Yea, a lot of people mount it in there but you mount it sideways rather than backwards. Actually works well as there's one less link to worry about so its just the linkage on the brake pedal and then te linkage bar that ones across behind heater motor acts on it directly.

Pedal box is probably the most straight forward option though especially as its going to be a track car anyway.

Ya ial have to look into it anyways have a cheap oul pedal box there for a mk2
I wouldn't mind putting the grinder to see would it work

well was busy this week got the engine mounts made up and the engine and box bolted in properly the mounts were handy enough to make up except the original passenger side mount the was in the 7 series hasthe main oil feed for the the engine goin true it which made things a little complecated.
so heres what i done 2564
2567
2565 that was the drivers side sorted any ways

mike e30
21-04-13, 11:52
then the prick of a passenger mount i cut the leg off the old mount so all i had was the peace the bolted to the engine with the oil feed.
Then cut 4mm off the back off the so it could over lap the mount i made and still keep the oil feed and original seals2568
2569
2570
2571
it seem to be sealed with the block other than that they were very handy to do bar drilling hoiles with shit drill bits takes a fuckin life time but its done now anyways

mike e30
21-04-13, 12:31
manifolds next as some of ye would now the drivers side manifolds have to be changed completly to get them around the steerin rack. probable no harm i had to do this as the old one was the most restrictive thing i ever seen
2572
does anyone know is there any real advantage to having the double wall on the exhaust its really annoying for working with
2573

mike e30
21-04-13, 12:35
put the wrong pics in there thats how they look now just have them tacked together there for now 2576
2577 heres the original ones

alan31625
21-04-13, 14:19
i woulndt burden youself with the double wall bm exhaust parts. every other exhaust in the world is single wall anyway. my guess is it was originally to muffle sound and heat and vibration when fitted in the 7. nothing to do with the running of the engine

mike e30
21-04-13, 15:54
Ya that's the only reason I can think for it they prob wanted the 7 series to be extra quite and smooth was tryin leave it in for 1st peace I done but figured there's no point just went with the bigger outside layer should be a lot less restrictive

mike e30

Quick update have the manifolds almost done and the engine and box fully bolted in.
Sick to the balls of the manifolds so goin to spend the next few days I wanna go at something different and mount the servo under the dash and start pullin out the interior
Fit the new bucket seats and other little goodies I got over the weekend.
Will stick up a few pics tomorrow anyone know why any pics I post never go up as full size

well got a good bit done this week finally got the manifolds full finished and welded up. also got the brake servo and master cylinder mounted and working under the dash

i used a vw vento master cylinder and servo as its almost the same just a bit smaller and tidyer,i used the part of the original mount from under the dash i had the cut the pivot peace that the bar coming from the brake pedal connects to and change the angle on it so it would working going side to side then also had to cut the end off the rod in the back of the vento servo and weld on the e30 connection.
the whole job only took about 3 hours the a good bit of head scratching

iav wanted to buy this yoke for the last year and the lad that had I would sell it but just rang me out of the blue and offered me it for 200 quid so couldn't say no its only a 316i but the shell is mint except for the boot lid really surprised at how clean it is

I had almost everything made up for the coupe so just had to swap the bits over. had a bit of trouble getting a good clutch set up seems iam used mix match flywheel and box iam using a 5 speed e34 535 zf box a e39 540 flywheel and a e36 3.0 m3 stage 1 clutch problem with this was the m3 pressure plate bolt holes wont line up with the e39 flywheel but the dowels will so had to drill and tap the flywheel to make it fit http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a595/mike2704/IMG_0175_zps8a45aa33.jpg (http://s1285.photobucket.com/user/mike2704/media/IMG_0175_zps8a45aa33.jpg.html)

other fuck up was the steering linkage tried clearing them as much as I could but they were still hitting so ended up cutting up 2 steering linkages and welding them together to lower the knuckle it clears them perfect now
