View Full Version : Team BANKRUPT Drift - SIL80

Came across a few old pics of the motor when i got her - she's had a few changes over past few yrs - some good and some bad - got me thinking about how much money i spent on her (bad idea) - money which i easily justified at the time and quickly forgot about - like any addiction it can be justified, no matter what .. 'the daily's tyres are threadbare but i've enough new tyres for the next driftday' or 'the shocks are wrecked in my daily but thankfully the new coilovers arrived for the driftcar' - ha, it's mad..but all good

this wee image sums up the different stages of drifting for me, but still doesn't stop me drifting, but for all newbies out there - beware, it's a moneypit haha.. it will bankrupt you, but it'll be a fun ride!

http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac245/petesa/images.jpg

Stage 1 - relatively secure - buy driftcar
Stage 2 - constantly broke - constantly fixing and buying tyres
Stage 3 - debt - the thirst for more power and improved handling
Stage 4 - Bankrupty - all of the above and being unable to stop - aaggghhh..

After developing an unhelathy interest in drifting I saw this car sitting for months back in 2010 - after a bit of tyre kicking we agreed on a deal and i got her home with me

http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac245/petesa/petephone146.jpg

Fair spec - a dash dodger, MOT and tax had just ran out - was still a roadcar
she had tein coillies all round
decent wheels
endless brakes
engine supposedly 300ish
HKS induction, filter, mani, FMIC
IHI turbo - similar to T28
550's, metal head gasket
3'' straight through
2 way
and after wondering what the whining was with the clutch in I was glad to find out she had an ORC twin plate carbon clutch

http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac245/petesa/petephone1074.jpg
http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac245/petesa/petephone279.jpg
http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac245/petesa/petephone1305.jpg

I wish I hadda kept the wheels (sold and bought rota torques)
and I wish I hadda copied the aero bumper before bashing it up, but u live and learn

so I got me a helmet, seat, harness and hydro and did a few practice days

http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac245/petesa/petephone248.jpg

After a couple of practice days - floggin the bejaysus out of her around bishopscourt and being new to drifting - not really appreciating the benefits of temp guages etc I boiled the feck out of the engine, and then really started spending money - rebuilt, with a new 2871 as it was shagged as well - thx to Richard Bradley (for building the engine.. not shaggin the turbo haha)
So back to the track 2011 for more practice.. the engine hung in well and it was now time to test the bodywork - bounced the front and back off the tyres a few times in bishopscourt -

over the winter I stripped her out and got bits and pieces ready for PD 2012
cut-offs, cage etc
put battery behind driver's seat
put in a few adjustable arms, solid mounted subframe etc - thx to Paul from PJS autoengineering - v handy and always does a tidy job
and I got Chris B to do the lock for me - great job
also got new discs for rear and yellow stuff pads to help with locking up rear wheels

I've a few wee bits to get tidied up yet and loads more I want to do but don't NEED to do so they can wait..

This is how she sits at the minute - ready for another year's trashing..

I have to now visit the manager of the credit union with a business plan - to come up with the monies for tyres and entry fees as well as inevitable breakdown's.. hopefully he doesn't find out i'm a driftoholic and most of his loan's gonna go up in a cloud of smoke lol - Bob, if you're a member on the forum, and happen to reading this.. it's a really good investment lol. also if my wife or bank manager see this, this is not the reason why the mortgage is in arrears - it's the recession dammit..
