Cheapest that's any use would be a 4.4l Bmw v8 out of a 740i. Couple of the guys in BDC have done the conversion and added a turbo to get around 400bhp reliably. Engines can be got for 300ish but the manual gearbox from the 540 is pricey and you'll need to know what your at.

As far as American ls3 and ls7, you'll need mega bucks to get something worthwhile and a lot of fab work.

Pure wannabe life style bullshit put a turbo a set of injectors and a air flow meter on you sr20 get it mapped properly and no need for a poxy v8

Jesus Gem... What a retarded comment. If the man wants a v8 or is contemplating it happy days for him and for something different.

Your up there with Scrooge at times

Cheapest M3 V8 I have seen for sale in the UK is 3K stg with ECU and no exhaust headers.

It would cost about €6000-7000 to get running in the car with a 6 speed m3 box. BMW engines are highly technical engines with quad vanos and so on. It might be better to get a big older american V8 running on a carb to make install easy. If you are not after massive power the old LS1 is cheap and can be converted to carb very cheaply.

Having said all that if you spend the same amount on a SR20 you will get a very trick and powerful engine.

RB25 or 1JZ will easily see 500 bhp cheaper than any V8.

Toyota/Lexus 1UZ is a descent V8. Have done a few supercharged ones. Loads of torque but no massive power. All around 420hp @1bar
Super cheap and reliable engine if you want to be different.
Rb/JZ/SR are better options IMO.

I was talking about a e36/46 m3 engine not the v8 m3, they are super reliable very cheap and have good power and response,, I drove jack shanahans s14 with the 3.0 m3 engine and it is just brilliant to drive,, it is nice to be different sometimes,, and Richard speaks the truth a 1uz is a great little v8 for the money,,
