right ive rebuilt my first engine and going to spark it up soon any tips or tricks, i can do so i don't mess up? also oil isn't in it yet, it only has a full gasket kit done and new piston rings :)

oh this is a toyota 18r engine just standard toyota rings

Spark plugs out and turn the crank over by hand.

Then turn it over with the started to get the full oil pressure going

Plugs in, start it and drive it on!

Exactly, you'd be amazed the amount of people just turn the key without checking it by hand first!!!
And a fair share of them end up with a collection of bent valves and mashed pistons :p

If you've only done the piston rings and its original bearings are still being used (once they are perfect) run it in by driving it pretty hard as you'll get nice high compression and engine will be much stronger than if you run it in very gently.
