Well as a few may know already I've been building a 180 for track use it wasn't intended for track but I think it was the right decision.

So I got the car which I swapped for a golf I had but could'nt live with
it came as this
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130115_115457.jpg

http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130114_122835.jpg
standard enough, coilovers, frontmount the usual .

So the plan was road car as I already had drift car but multiple phonecalls
off Colm Murray to inform me that he had already organised a man to put in a weld in cage even though I was still saying it would be a road car and a night full of jack daniels later I decided to put my 14 up for sale

http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/beige1_zps039a23fd.jpg

So it literally took a few hours and I had a deposit in my hand so the project was given the go ahead

So I said Id start stripping

couple of hours later
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130122_205720_zps608fa7b7.jpg

Decided Id strip the loom
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130124_132544.jpg

Then about an hour later threw the loom in the bin and decided to make my own loom
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130126_195207.jpg

Then the dreaded sound deadening this took about two days chiseling and rubbing down with petrol my god it was a pain but the results were good and the amount of weightt is pretty crazy
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130129_215032_zpsa87bd653.jpg

So then time for some weight loss and get the car ready for cage so invited two of the lads up and gave Murray the grinder with a few discs didnt see him for about two hours behind all the sparks got the doors off windscreen out wings off as stripped as we could get it for cage
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130129_215017_zpse3972a92.jpg

So the car went for cage to Paul Cusack in Castletownroche, collected it a few days later and was very very pleased just wanted a straight forward cage as tight to the pillars and roof as possible didn't think it would be possible to get as close as he did though check out the welds to roof front and back and A pillars

Now the real work started courtesy of the man who convinced me to start this in the first place who is also responsible for this :

http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/2jM3_zpsf0caf2a1.jpg

http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/2jM32_zps8d622218.jpg

So you can see now why it was easy for him to sway me into building a track car!!!
The next two weeks were going to be pretty hectic and with Murray only working on the car after work and weekends I think its pretty impressive what has been done!

The aim was to have it ready for 24th Feb which seemed unrealistic but the end is in sight now!

So dropped it to Murrays garage I think of a Thurs night two weeks ago

Had in the meantime picked up some 4 of these
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130131_144842_zpsc0c5bc21.jpg

And painted up a 14 subframe and skyline wishbones
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130202_170038_zps15818c2f.jpg

Got them bolted up and also had a full R33 brake setup which went on

then grinder out again and fabricate a new place to put the shiny tank
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130208_164652_zps2b40639a.jpg

21-02-13, 13:55
So he attached the bosch 044 and got the front brakes working and it was my turn to do some work to the car the inside painting and outside painting which I had two days basically to do which would have been last Thursday

scotch scotch hoover hoover
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130214_170034_zps376cb726.jpg

2.5 hours straight painting later, remember this is my third time lifting a spray gun I'm far from an expert but I'm very happy with results

Note the welded in hydro bracket!

Then decided on polycarbonate after this
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy323/diffindan/20130205_161730_zps7f9a3ace.jpg

Lost some more weight then off doors and such

Wings are pretty cool looking, would like to see them in the flesh..

21-02-13, 16:24
The wings are the business alright and the main thing for me is youd kinda look twice at them and there not just for looks they serve a purpose! The long term plan would be a ps front the bonnet i got off chucky its after more hits than the beetles but ive done my best with it I like nismo vents but I think on the sixteens the more subtle the better the overfenders on the back went on as the 14 sub is wider every styling change has a purpose on this car the way I like it , the idea was low weight small wheels standardish power good handling hence the dw hubs and have some fun, there is a plan for an engine which will definately go against the grain but thats a bit off yet have s15 ecu injectors afm to fire into it but wanna remove engine and take out more weight and make a frame for front , but this will be after superdrift as time is tight

Original weight would be 1210kg for manual and just for the craic 1230kg for auto. Just to give you something to go on.
The paint came out well, even if it was your 4th time picking up a spray gun, and it is something different and fresh for a change. I likes.

I agree with staying with the small wheels Itll be interesting now to see how it goes i believe theres a 4:1 in it, that tint didnt work out feckin drizzled while it was dryin but got some more so hope it goes well

Ya well see hopefully itll be a fair bit less than standard but its not just about losing the weight its about having it jn the right place, Id say I might start offering a cheap spraying service for track cars maybe 2-300 for full car I did cooks green 14a on here and my beige 14a and now this so fellas could check out my work first ,

That bonnet doesn't look too bad. I think mine is higher than that:confused:
Is your plenum right up against the bulkhead?

I've gone for aem management on mine. I'm currently in the middle of wiring.....nightmare lol

dannyc
24-05-13, 17:54
We had it up against the bulkhead but he wasnt happy so we cut the top of it lets say where the wiper linkage is so the back of plenum will slide over the bulkhead a bit but the back of engine is as close as it can go now to the bulkhead , the wiring in them is ridiculous i have been trying to pick up an ecu to suit but have been quoted 3k for ecu and fitting other option is z fever in florida if I send them loom and ecu they will reconfigure ecu and modify loom cut the crap out of it and leave me with four wires to connect think thats 700 euros I was going to go omex but they cant control the vvt which would be a shame Im on the fence at the moment but theres a big difference between the prices of the two I cud buy a transporter with yhe savings if I went z fever ha! Youll be seeing track soon so? Cant wait to get a go off mine hopefully it will be as good as we imagine it will be

That's probably back a bit further than mine. Did ye space the subframe down?
Just wondering as my bonnet seems to sit very high.

Look up some reviews on z fever before you go that route dude. Don't seem to be the quickest at getting stuff sent out. Another us based company I've seen is Chasebays.

Factory service manuals on this link http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/350Z/coupe/ Wiring diagram on pages 101 and 102 of the ec PDF.

dannyc
25-05-13, 00:58
Nah the subframe was modded to take the factory vq mounts but not spaced down the pics are with bonnet touching plenum it will be lifted another 10mm or so I know ive read a bit about z fever and im not extremely comfortable about going that route but options are limited unfortunately ,have the fsm already and decided for a finish theres just too much crap in the loom with the can system and the nats we could probably size down the loom but would still need the ipdm and bcm along with key and halo which is something i dont wanna do i want the wiring to be simple straight forward no room for problems , If I cud get an ecu in and fitted for sub 2k id go for it over z fever but im getting nowhere with an ecu that control the vvt I just dont know enough about this stuff unfortunately Im at the mercy of everyone else to give me info! What model aem did ya get ? Will it run the vvt for you?

calicagesracing
25-05-13, 08:30
You have 2 choices, the 30-1050(U) or the 30-1900. Either can control the vvt. One needs soldering on the board, the other doesn't.
Fitting instructions here: http://forum.aempower.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=25473.0;attach=596 8

Thanks!

Been flat out last few nights with colm doing the wiring it's unbelieveable how time consuming it is but it's something that I really don't want any problems with , so we stripped down the 350z loom took out what we needed made up our own loom and starting crimping pins for ecu also ran all dash wires and switch wires through plugs so everything can be plugged straight out trying to make it as functional as possible so if there's any problems in the future they should be easily found. A few pics of what we were at tonight

Ecu wires pinned

Small update on this car still running poorly so will be changing injectors back to originals to see if that will help somewhat, progress is slow trying to buy a house hard to keep sinking money into it! Hopefully it wont take much more to get it right and I can start enjoying it again!
Got a murano rocker cover in from the states has a shorter oil filler neck and has meant I can try out the straight trumpets need to seriously modify the oil filler cap tho as there is little to no room for it!

Cheers lads, Seanie I'm no expert but the length/profile of the trumpets effects your torque curve ie. shorter trumpets more torque lower in the rev range or vice versa I'm not sure, it just means for me I can balance them with a carb vacuum gauge and it also sounds a bit better will just have to drive it to find out. I'll respray in exchange for plumbing no hassle at all lad be the right job!
