View Full Version : Diffs AGAIN !!!! ( sorry lads )
lads lookin at a 180 this week and it has a standard viscous diff fitted, im totally stupid with technical stuff so will the car slide with this diff??
also can someone explain differences between an open diff, viscous diff and the helical diff that was in my old 15 spec r
if its not welded or an after market diff it will be poo! open means no slideing because only one wheels spins, viscous or helical will most likely slide ok but if you go to transition it will try and kill you!!
so it will be a little like my old s15, least i now know wat to expect that car was a widow maker ha ha ha

Will more than likely just spin the one wheel under sporty driving, god news is you'll pick up a 2 way for cheaps
If you buy it ive a 4.1 2 way diff :D
Ye seen that Steve ill have to wait a lil while to build funds

Thanks for that!
id a helical in my s15 and they seem to me more biased for normal spirited driving...when sliding it could be going grand and then it throws the torque to another wheel and snap off you go, so it was really unpredictable....same as what you had before ste. is a viscous diff all done on the the oil being in charge of locking it up? rather than mechanical like a helical

viscous diffs will put you in a ditch way too handy.. dangerous to slide with in my opinion
My standard s15 diff usually locks up in second is that a helical?
