View Full Version : Advice needed, sr20det vvt into 180sx

I've a 94 180sx shell with a blacktop non vvt loom in it, what are my option for putting an s14 sr20vvt engine into it? have loom + ecu for the vvt engine also.

Is there much work involved in splicing the looms together?

Also heard somewhere that if you replace the vvt cams with non vvt cams the non vvt loom will work without any modification, any truth to this?

All help much appreciated!

If it helps I done it with 2 non turbos before just swapped cams

I fitted a s14 vvt engine into my 93 180sx, simple to do just plugs and bolts straight in. the s14 loom plugs straight into your interior loom on ur 180sx and then plug the loom into your ecu then. i Sripped my whole loom down and got rid of aload of unused wires like the abs as my 180 didnt have it just to make it look tidyer. also if its a uk engine with nats you need to have the key with the chip, the ignition ring and the imobilizer box all wired up with the key taped around the ignition ring.

I assume you have the ignitor and all the other bits with the engine in order for it to run?

@Simo, bought a crashed s14 with the engine running, so everything should be there, its a jap aswell, so basically its just to swap the s14 engine loom onto the 180 an plug in s14 ecu?

Yeah simple as that just remove the old loom and ecu, and put ur new loom and ecu in for the s14 engine, the rest just bolts in. there will be a few extra connectors and wiring that you wont be using that the s14 uses but not ur 180 so can either chop em out or cable tie them up. i Put the s14 engine into 3 s13's, 2 180s and a 200sx, have to splice the loom on the ca18det 200sx but the 180sx with the sr20det is plug in basically.

Just bumping this if anyone can shed a bit of light for me, I'm using the s14 loom and connection behind the dash is different on the 180sx,
The bottom is connection for 180sx and on the top is the s14 connection,

I have the pin outs for each plug, so is it as simple as cutting off the s14 plug, and replacing it with the 180sx plug and just connecting the wires that are common to both, (Tacho, water temp,speed sensor,start signal etc.)
or is there alot more wiring involved?
