I've been following drifting for quite a while now, mainly pro drift.
So I thought it was time to give it a go myself.
I started off building an ae86 corolla then got side tracked with my buggy/gokart project.
The buggy got finished an corolla still left as it is for now.

That's when the sierra project started, I had all the bits I needed to build the car gathered up so decided to go ahead an get started. I started off with a shell I had from an old 2.0 twincam I broke and a 24v Granada I was driving up until the mot was up. I stripped the Granada and built all into the sierra.
I forgot to take some pics of the build along the way but have pics from when I was making the roll cage

The start of the cage

So had my first drift day in it on Saturday there.
First lap ok
Second lap struggled to get gears, lost clutch in middle of transition an ended up on a lorry tyre wall.
It didn't help that front wheels were rubbing inner wings causing her to flick the backend around even quicker.
Ended up resulting in who doors being pushed in and a broken rear bumper.

Aye I'm happy with how the cage turned out in the end up.
Yea have a standard 24v BOA in her at the min.
If it gives up I have a 24V v6 BOB sitting for a road car but could be put to better use:afro:
Spec of it is
bored out to 3000cc
mahle pistons
3 branch s/s manifolds
custom ecu wiring
full s/s mongoose exhaust system
fully rebuilt, all new gaskets
pipercross induction kit
Still with bob cams
upgraded injectors
chipped ecu
Should be about 250bhp with good torque all still being N/A:cool:

Main reason I built it is to get started at the drifting until I have my ae86 drift car built, I had a Sierra shell laying an had all the parts there to build it. And thought it would be nice to have an old ford out sliding with all the jap stuff.

After the clutch problems I had from last Saturday I pulled the gearbox out of her during the week to get it sorted.
The gearbox is a bit of a hybrid box I built for her using half a 4wd gearbox and half a 2wd gearbox. Anyone who's not aware all the 24v Cosworth engines came attached to an auto box. You can use the type 9 gearbox from the likes of a Capri, Granada or Sierra but they not really that strong, ok for a road car but the mt75 gearbox is stronger, but never came as a 2wd v6 layout so this is why I had to build one.

The problem ended up being the clutch fork had came off its pivot point due to the travel, so I knocked out the pivot ball, tapped out a hole in gearbox bellhousing and welded ball onto a bolt and threaded it back into place so its now adjustable from the outside. Built all back in and seems to be working ok now.
Also modified the gear linkage to give me a short shifter, which made a good difference

I don't think there is any pics from that drift day at aghadowey, I haven't seen any yet anyway?
No, didn't use a type9 gearbox, I built the gearbox for her. What I done is in bottom post on 1st page there. I'll put a pic of it built up when I get it lad

I got a few more bits done with this this last few days over the holidays.
Added a simple crash bar to help save the radiator.

I have been working on the suspension up front to get the wheels pushed forward so I made new brackets to move the anti roll bar forward
They are half welded on here as I ran out of welding wire. Hopefully get it finished tomorrow now.

Here are some of the pics I took of the lock I am getting and the mods I've done to get this.
I need to flare the front wings out a bit more and fit wheel spacers to gain some more lock and stop rubbing inner wings. Maybe 10mm ones.

As for the rest of the car I have fitted cosworth spoiler and cosworth side skirts. Just need to sort out the wheels next, but need to flare out the arches some more
I have also took the camber out of the back wheels to try and stop it destroying the inside of tyres and have a bit more control of the car.
I'll get more pics of her when I get it out of the garage and washed up.

I want to have her out for a drift day now on Sunday in eglington so Dono wether to hammer the arch out or cut it out an make a new wider wee lip kinna one. Or to cut out and fit like a universal Jdm type arch?

sideways_madness
22-02-13, 20:20
Rim face is out past it about 40mm so going to get 195 50 15's on them to see how much they'll stretch. I think if I got the arch out about 10mm to 15mm they should tuck under ok.? Here's hoping anyway.

Had some fun in the wee car the day at north west fest. Car went well all day never missed a beat till she got low on petrol. Got good bit of track time.
So next job I really need to do is the TCA's she was rubbing inner wings all day an basically braking front wheel cause a few spins but got my fun out of it anyway.
Hopefully get a few photos up. Was plenty of lads out with the cameras but don't know if there's any videos

Little update,

After last few outings I've been struggling with the handling of the car so made a start on sorting it out, first of all the anti roll bar had been cut into with the wheels about 10-12mm on each side, this explained the sparks lol,
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j5/sideways_madness/36E62C44-FE0F-428F-839E-4838A60243BC-22763-000011A43F061155.jpg
So decided to remove the anti roll bar and. Build a whole custom front suspension. So I made a set of adjustable front TCA's and adjustable compression struts/tie rods, and made a start on making a set of eccentric top mounts. I have a full set of springs ordered 450lbs rears and 600lbs fronts so they should stiffen her up a good bit:D

Pics of how it is at the min, still few bits to finish off but it's getting there and lock is good now
So need to get all cleaned down and painted or zinc coated
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j5/sideways_madness/B965276C-06D4-4AEA-B818-3FDB0E906412-22763-0000119F5BE4D839.jpg

Bit of a super late reply here but I made them from flat plate and cut, drilled, and tapped them then welded on a boss for the bearing to sit in.

Been a while since I've been on here so a bit of an update.

I've been to a few track days in this yoke over the past few months, trying to get some practice and seat time as I'd like to enter some of the competitions next year for a bit of a challenge.

I done a track day at agahdowey few months ago
I done the ae86 track day in mondello in her but had power steering issues resulting in the oil over the windscreen. So only got about 3 laps.

I also went to the retrostock day in mondello to test out the new powersteering set up. She never missed a beat all day and I got plenty of track time
