View Full Version : Mk2 Escort Cosworth Build
Well this is my escort, have owned it over ten years, been dry stored most of that time, decided to make a start on it about 18 months ago, don't get as much time as i'd like to work on it,only the odd evening so it'll take a while, have a newly built 500+bhp cosworth engine that came out of my sapphire cosworth ready to go in when the time comes, car is fully caged, adjustabe four linked rear with adjustable watts link, turrets, tubbed, raised floor, transmission and exhaust tunnels, bulk head moved back about 10 inches
http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/bcositsworthit/DSCN1688800x600.jpg
Using an old cosworth engine for mock up,its mounted using a group4 chassis mount kit,the engine is moved back about 10 inches for better weight distribution
http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/bcositsworthit/DSCN1591800x600.jpg
Had to extend and strengthen the chassis, decided to remove the bulkhead a fabricate a new one

don't understand why the YB is not a common engine conversion in competition, it's a beast of a 4cyl! good luck with the build, keep us posted ill be keeping an eye on this

Wasn't there a dude who had a Volvo with a YB engine in Prodrift a few years ago?? I reckon as its an expensive engine to buy and build the likes of an SR or RB is a better choice. I love cossies so this will be interesting :)

Can't agrue the yb engine is expensive to buy and repair if things go wrong, but most of the parts on a completely stock 4x4 cosworth engine can cope with 500bhp no problem, obviously with the correct supporting mods, turbo, injectors, cams, head work....,they are over engineered from the start,so make an excellent base for big power, nothing wrong with an sr or rb,both very capable engines, but i recon it would cost more to build a reliable 500bhp sr than a yb,rb being a 6cyl would be big and bad for weight distribution and ruin the handling of a light weight escort

That is truely awsome!
lovely build. What brake's and suspension you going to use?
Serious build. A friend of mine has a mk2 with a na converted yb running 240bhp and i thought that was quick. This is going to be a different animal all together
lovely build. What brake's and suspension you going to use?
Not sure on brakes yet, probably the biggest i can fit under a 16 inch rim, suspension wise rear is turrets,4 link, adjustable watts link mostly found on touring cars and the likes, allows the rear roll center to be adjusted, tarmac spec coilovers of some description, little undecided on the front, adjustable track control arms, coilovers, possibly tension or compression struts, may try both and see which works best for me
Few more pics, had to box a section over the chassis after notching it to put some strength back into it and to have something for the raised floor to sit on
http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/bcositsworthit/DSCN2318800x600.jpg
Part of the floor made and fitted, floor is raised so the car can run very low and allow the axle to travel without obstruction

Adjustable four link brackets made up,these took a lot of time and measuring to line up properly

Was hoping the picture would just keep comming. The fabrication work is top notch. I was expecting to see press brakes and trumph machines for the panel work, very suprised to see the hand made bending tool. Great work. Just shows what can be done when you have talent on your side

Thanks for the comments lads
will this be rhd?? if it is your arse is gonna be roasting!!
Yes it will be rhd,the exhaust will be heat wrapped or ceramic coated and is over an inch away from the tunnel at any point, under the tunnel will also have a thermal barrier so heat won't be a problem
seriously tidy job lad! fair play
Seriously cool build man, keep up the good work. Will definatly be keeping an eye on this.
