My mate bought this shell a couple of months ago with the intention of making a track/time attack/drift car.so we started work on it this evening by getting it in the garage and making a start of stripping it bare.there's some rust to be sorted out and its gonna be seam welded and lightened
the idea is to have it a running track car by the end of next year and to compete in time attack in 2011

pockets are rusty but we are cutting them out

this is the worst par of the cam and at that most of whats seen in the picture is surface rust,we have to sort this out first by replacing the floor here

Haha AE86's are taking over the site. Cool build hope it goes well for ya. Them metal gauzes are suppose to sap the power dramaticly I havent first hand experience of this but a fella on ae86irl dyno tested an escort with and without gauzes and when they were fitted it lost something like 21bhp. The socks are a better option but can tear, it happened to mine so I just took them off didnt do any harm but you run the risk of stones/dust getting in but if its just a track car the risk would be low.

well we started off pulling the rest of the engine out.since the track day it was running like a bag,on 3 cylinders and real smokey.we think it could of went cause of the freedom ecu
anyway we're picking up a brand new omex 600 with all the extras tonight
here it is with the head off

nothing too bad looking:eek:
http://photos4.pix.ie/7F/A4/7FA4B97CF6FF44DEBCB96E19B31CD6BD-800.jpg (http://pix.ie/moons657/1679654)
but the pistons were a different story
this one looks bad enough with the burn marks on the side of it
http://photos5.pix.ie/CC/99/CC999009EA4A4370A3B747D8CDCD5833-800.jpg (http://pix.ie/moons657/1679653)
then cylinder 1 piston which was the dodgy one
http://photos3.pix.ie/09/D0/09D0CD1C383E446CA3CD917DD828D306-800.jpg (http://pix.ie/moons657/1679652)
so after checking the block out again,in cylinder 1 there was a very slight bump in the lining so we're not using that block:p

moons657
18-05-10, 08:56
we also went about making the car a lot lighter by cutting out the rear inner quarter panels:cool:
before
http://photos2.pix.ie/20/C9/20C9AC0B7E504D48A0E328773FDA9036-800.jpg (http://pix.ie/moons657/1678506)
after:cool:

we're getting onto galway carbon in the next few days cause they do the carbon fibre covers for these panels and it will neaten it up a lot:D

freedom ecus are absolutly usless over here....!!!

good choice with the omex cant go wrong there...

Wouldnt say there was a whole lot of weight saved there.
no not really but every little helps man:Dabout 2kg was lost with the rear inner quarters,we still have to do the doors as well;)

freedom ecus are absolutly usless over here....!!!

good choice with the omex cant go wrong there...

probably the cause of the engine failure to be honest man:p

anyway...

we took a little trip up north last night and picked up a few bits and bobs:D
omex 600 job!!will make way more of a difference than the shitty freedom that no one in ireland can map(wtf:
http://photos3.pix.ie/A4/8C/A48C45E08CCF48CCA67E8B6EE297CE4D-800.jpg (http://pix.ie/moons657/1682633)
the whole set up.very tasty:D
http://photos3.pix.ie/E5/03/E503D5C249924A17AA9083FEF6FE3263-800.jpg (http://pix.ie/moons657/1682634)
VERY IMPORTANT GAUGES:D oil pressure and temperaturebt:)
http://photos3.pix.ie/1A/8C/1A8C369B81CE4558BF3C5F072CF63C3C-800.jpg (http://pix.ie/moons657/1682632)
and very important oil cooler
http://photos3.pix.ie/0A/27/0A27D0E0FF4D48F3BDC0F5C42555A80A-800.jpg (http://pix.ie/moons657/1682630)
lightweight crank pulley and tooted wheel for crank sensor for ecu:D

now whats left to do is fit the oil cooler, get engine back in after being rebuilt.rewire entire car(full race setup),get final drive, order wider wheels, change diff to 1.5way and get a new front bumper.
then get the car down to martin Treacys:D

Frankae86

Thats a right good kit, everything in it!
And yes an oil cooler is a MUST on them.
