Finally got the car home tonight. PeterT decided that he had to take the car for some last slide, he wasnt even gone 5 mins when i get the phone call saying that the front wheel has come loose and to run up the road with a jack and a wheel brace, ha ha :D

After that i headed for home, coming up the motorway my mate start's flashing for me to pull over. The rear bumper has come off on one side, the only thing that saved it was the shotgun exhaust!! Tied it back on and got it home save and sound in one piece. Gonna clean her out at the weekend and start the tidy up.

Yikes! the shotguns are good for that actually. As you know I havnt had a chance or interest to get it all tidy again, those cable ties tend to just die after a while!

No I didn't check them when I got home, steering felt alright. Had to use a piece of wire in the boot to tie it back on, couldn't find cable ties.

Spent a few hours at the car today and started to make a list of what needs to be done.

-Battery is loose so it needs to be secured
-Rear door window wont close properly
-Looks like there was a sound system in the boot at some time, the wires need to be ripped out for the amp
-The horn doesnt work(the cars horn, not mine)
-The speedo isnt working and neither is the rev gauge

Fitted the works bell snap off kit with the dished steering wheel i got, the wheel is very close to where im sitting

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/DSC_0078.jpg

The body work isnt too bad but there's a few bits that need to be sorted, like the side skirts and mounting the bumpers properly.

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/DSC_0077.jpg

Gave it a wash and started to polish it but it started to drizzle so i brought it into the garage, took out all the seats and gave it a good hoover, and while the seats were out I wiped out the roll cage as the colour has faded so im gonna sand it down and give it a fresh coat of paint. Car looks so strange without the cage

Right I always wanted to get this yoke up in the air and have a proper look under it, not 100% happy with what iv discovered!!

How the arm should be

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/IMAG0160.jpg

What the other side looks like, this will explain why the car pulls to one side!!

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/IMAG0158.jpg

And instead of actually removing the HICAS and looping the system the pipes were just bent over. The power steering fluid was leaking out of the pipes so ill be fully removing this and sorting it out, basically doing a proper job.

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/IMAG0163.jpg

On the up side iv been told that the coilovers are awesome :) Tein HR coilovers or something like that

Also for some random reason the passenger side headlamp is broken, ill need to put a fish in the light

How the fuck did you break the headlight!? you know those brick type ones are mega mega mega rare?!

Not sure what the craic is with the hicas, as far as i can remember gem didnt remove all the bit he just disabled the system but left stuff in place. Never had to top up fluid or anything so it 'could' be from the unused hicas lines!

Also yeh, I think all of the arms at the front are bent. it was tracked and driving straight but in mondello I hit one of the curbs hard enough which knocked it off a bit.

Iv no idea how the headlight broke, i discovered it this morning. At first i taught that the heavy winds the other night blew something against it but the bonnet doesnt have any damage. My other conclusion is that the frost last night broke the light but i kinda doubt it!!

Yea the arms are fucked, but iv a load of spare arms in the shed that ill throw onto the car.

Treated the car to some Driftworks adjustable arms for the rear. Since the car has the Driftworks HICAS lockout kit there is already toe arms on the car so with the camber arms and the traction arms its pretty much the back end sorted, all that's left to do is the alignment.

Collected another few bits for the car, gonna try make them fit and if that doesn't work then up for sale they go (friends always get first refusal ;))

First off is this engine damper, I know this is for an SR20 but since this car uses all S body suspension the R32 engine damper won't bolt on. So ill see if I can make up some sort of a bracket to make it fit.

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/IMAG0204.jpg

Next is a Cusco oil catch tank, the Lucozade spec one looks like it'll destroy the engine bay if the oil comes out!!

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/IMAG0201.jpg
http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/IMAG0203.jpg

Then I got this alloy coolant bottle, in order to be able to fit this the HICAS pipes will need to removed which I plan on doing anyway.

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/IMAG0200.jpg

Tried to repair the headlight last night but could only glue a few pieces of glass back in, so I ran a couple of layers of tape over the top of the light and job done, it probably won't pass an nct but it'll stop the water getting in

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/IMAG0207.jpg

Also got the paint for the cage, gonna spray up some of it tonight and see how it goes. Then get everything bolted up and ready for mondello on Sunday

I do workstation assessments :) I meant a docking station that either has a screen attached so you just plug in the laptop closed and use a seperate mouse, keyboard and screen or one where it raises up the screen to eye height! If you sit upright the top of the screen should be at eye level + or - 15 degrees (ish) otherwise I guarantee ye you'll get neck cramp. Keyboard should be approx 6 inches from desk edge, just enough to support your wrist, so as to not cause sore wrists. Helps not get cramp as bad when having a peddle! And the further away the screen is the harder your eyes have to work too, all ads up and you'd suprised the difference it makes! cough cough your employer should be doing all this cough

Anywho back on topic. I like those lights more than the bricks just to be different

Engine wise it doesn't need to be touched, it's got plenty of power, it does skids, that's all that's needed. I'm in no hurry to have it done, just gonna tip along at it. Anyway here's the list:

• Exterior tidied (possibly a respray)
• R33/S14 rear subframe
• R33/S14 front LCA's
• 5 stud conversion at the rear
• 18's at the rear (to fill the arches)
• Engine bay tidied
• Wiring fixed
• Gauges (Oil pressure + temp, water temp, boost)
• Some type of radio

Yea its always a good feeling :) This is how the dash in my Escort turned out when i flocked it

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/escort/Flockeddash.jpg

The plan is to remove the A/C as it doesnt work anyway, block up the holes in the bulkhead and then tidy up the wires behind the dash for the radio that wont be used. There is that stupid aerial connector behind the dash, ill be ripping it out and putting in one that works. Plug and play FTW ;)

Since the evenings are bright and all that jazz ill be able to do bits to the car in the evening time, lets all pray it doesnt rain!!

Just noticed your widening the track, not a food idea because the hubs sit very close to the arch line and you won't be able to fit wide wheels then unless you flare the door/bumper/arch!

In short, your gona kick yourself when you go to put a wheel on and the bumper is touching the tyre!

With the fine weather I got a chance to have a go at the car. I'm cleaning up the engine bay, removing the HICAS, covering the A/C holes and spraying the engine bay (had originally planed on spraying it Kawasaki green but Iv now been convinced to spray it purple)

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/B1E85D99-40C5-405B-A66E-C5C1B54F9A20-3705-000001C0E3A5CC85.jpg

Can't believe the weight of the a/c pump!!! I'm not dumping any of the aircon stuff tho just incase I ever plan on putting it back in.

Luckily enough the rain held off long enough for me to get the engine out, was easy enough to get out with the box still bolted on, but I did need to cut a section out of the slam panel.

The HICAS was a pain in the arse to remove, just pipes everywhere. Stayed up until 3:30 on saturday night taking stuff out of the engine bay. Hopefully the weather will hold off over the weekend and ill get the rest of the stuff removed. Then ill be degreasing and sanding the engine bay down and getting it ready for paint. Iv decided on a colour anyway, keeping it in the Nissan family im spraying it Midnight Purple

I'll put some seam sealer around it and then a bit of filler to bring it flush with the bay. Hopefully it'll be painted very soon.

I'm stuck for colours in the engine bay, I had origionally wanted to spray it Midnight Purple but I think it would be a bit lost and too dark as it's a colour that needs to be seen i.e. Spray the outside of the car MNP

Then I was thinking Kawasaki Green as it's a really bright colour and really stands out.

The final colour I'm thinking is a really bright blue.

Can anyone help me out??

On a road car I'd paint it same color as the car man painting it some bright color will look cool until u start bolting everything back in, unless your gona go epic wire tuck an polish everything I'd say go a darker color or the color the car will be !

Well personally I think the colour of the bay all depends on the colour and styling of the car bright bay will mean u will need to have it looking epic on the outside other that that if it's going to be suttle paint it same colour as the car as it just won't work

I have the Cefiro heading over to the girlfriends garage this weekend to get the engine bay ready for paint. Also have a look under it and remove all the rest of the HICAS and swap the steering rack. Hopefully if everything goes to plan (it never does) the engine and all can start going back into the car before my Dad tries to dump any more parts on me!! Picked up an A frame tonight to tow it cos iv no trailer anymore

pole drift
09-11-13, 22:42
Well I got the car over with the towing frame, but the Cefiro is so long I had to stick the magnetic trailer lights to the top of the boot lid.

It's so much easier working on the car with the use of a ramp!! Cut out the old section where the battery tray used to be. Ended up going a bit crooked with the airsaw but I just welded the section back in place. Need to grind down the welds so it's smooth but that'll be done tomorrow as we couldn't find the grinding disc. We also ran out of wire for the mig but I think we got everything done.

We got another bit done over the last week, my welds look like pigeon shit so Bryan took over before i made a total balls of it!! Anyway its in place now and covered with seam sealer, gonna undercoat the car aswell before everything starts getting bolted together again.

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/DE062210-8B8A-4281-AEB3-CEB575FC3183-12341-00000AF7A810AA46_zps3eef2433.jpg

So here's how I left the car while i let the sealer set over night....

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/E73F65F3-555F-4884-AAF1-36C97349B085-12341-00000AF7B23D028B_zps5459ee92.jpg

....and when I landed up the following night one of the young lads in the garage spent ages sanding away at the car for me.

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/D4C9D71B-3334-453F-8965-F3FEA5861F2A-17124-00000F384E61E5E5_zps89499106.jpg

We then covered the edges of the welds with fiberglass before we started adding in any filler, left it to set over the weekend and filled the area and smoothed it off. could probably do with another layer of filler or probably some dolphin glaze to finish it off before paint.

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/D1BFCDC2-8EE8-4AC6-BB13-E9D600E2ED03-16928-00000F2BE01F9923_zps76effdbe.jpg

Then gave the bay a bit of a zinc primer to make sure the metal didnt start to rust.

And here's the finished jobby for tonight's work, will let it dry for the night before we give it another lick of primer and then its into the spray booth

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo128/djwhisk/Cars/Nissan%20Cefiro%20A31/6BD22407-2A73-42E1-B8E2-EE4E42886F75-16928-00000F2BFCF2CF3E_zps6e89379a.jpg

Its kinda hard to make out in the pics the colour and TBH it looks black when you are looking at it, but when you shine the light on it you can make out the proper colour (and yes i know most of you will think its pointless painting the bay MNP but sure I like it and thats all that matters!!). After I had finished spraying the lacquer I headed home and left the car tucked up for the night.

And there she sits, back at home waiting for the next few bits to be done. Next ill be dropping the subframe to give that a small tidy and lick of paint, change the steering rack, fit the longer LCA's and then I can put the new brakes onto the car. Bring on the christmas holidays as ill be fairly busy ;)

Between all the eatin', drinkin' and rainin' over the last week or so I only got a few small bits done to the car. Got the front subframe off the and brought it into the garage to get it tidied a bit before I put the engine back in.

The garage might not be big enough to get the car into it but there's plenty of space to work away on small bits. Id be fairly lost without the engine crane!!

So I prayed for dry weather to get at the car and what do ya know, it pissed rain in the early hours of the morning, then stopped for a few hours and started again, think ill have the mother of all colds but sure fuck it nothing a hot whiskey wont cure!!!

Anyway during the time that it stayed dry I managed to get the car into the shed, if there wasnt so much shite in the way i probably could of got the full car in with the aid of the go jacks but I made do with what I had.

Better taking the stove back out to get easier access to everything else, i wouldnt leave that primer open to the elements either. Its porous and will rust.

Right ok so, I have been weighing up the options of what to do with the bay, and instead of just fixing the areas that fucked up on me I started at it again. Say what yea want, Im not doing a half arsed job at this so for piece of mind id prefer to have the bay perfect. There is another few areas around the bulkhead that I marked when I was putting the engine in the last time so Ill be fixing them too.

I want there to be absolutely so rust on this car when it goes back together and in order to make sure of that iv stripped everything out of it in search of it. After I removed the carpet there is areas around where the roll cage went through the floor that are covered in surface rust, nothing too major but Im gonna attack it sooner rather then later.

So the time came to start back at the engine bay. I did consider just sanding it down again but it took forever the last time so I got the sandblaster out and went at it.

Really was a pain in the arse but saved a considerable amount of time, not yet finished but it wont take much longer. Next on the list is to go at the underside of the car, removing and treating and further rust and then a coat or two of schultz under the car.

Thats all for now, this shouldnt take too long to finish all this prep work as iv found the motivation I needed to get stuck into the car.
