Well lads
Going to get a set of electric fans for the sil80 and just wondering on how to wire them in, im using the s14 sr20 vvt!

I know i can just get a temp sensor switch and tap it into my coolant system and use that as the trigger but just wondering could i not use the ecu coolant temp sensor and tap into the wiring going to that to get my trigger for the fans to come on?? Has anyone done it? In theory i think it will work.

I know i need a relay, fuse etc for the fans just want to know if i can get my trigger from the oem temp sensor.

Thanks

Oem temperature switch will work fine.
Hook up all to a relay or 2 if the fans are big.(1 each)
Fuse the lot and the fans will kick in like any ordinary fan would with no messing.

Sound man, be a neater job than having another temp sensor hanging out of my coolant elbow.
Yeah going ordering 2 12" fans and 2 indiviual relays and inline 30 amp fuses for it.
Theres 2 cut in temps on the ecu temp sensor so can have the fans cutting in a different times the hotter it gets.

prob get the fans in a breakers off an aircon rad or something? standard fan and shroud is prob best you will get on an sr do.

A good viscous on these with the proper shroud as said above with a aftermarket rad is defo the best set up on an sr...I went thru al the options in the same day while on track and it kept it cool the best...:)

Re the standard temp sensor are ye sure it'l work??? Does the s14 have a electric fan as standard? if not then it'l have a temp sensor rather than switch which wont be an adequate or accurate trigger for your fan relays?

Only problem with viscous fans are they take alot of rev out of an engine as its a pretty big fan to be lagging a pulley!
But other than that they are 100% for cooling.!
And oem coolant sensor switch is what your after.
Its simple and easy to get it running like this.
as for taping into the ecu, not fully sure how the ecu sends a signal for the fans to turn on , on a sr20 but if its ordinary 12v or an earth signal off it you'll have no problem doing that to a relay!

look into the flexilight twin fan and DIF controler setup like on mine, piece of piss to setup and works a treat. www.frsport.com do em for good money

I put twin fans on mine and i have it wired to a switch and if i forget to turn on the switch the ecu will bring it on at 87deg and off at 83deg or close to that anyway standard temp sensor is fine no need for an extra one.

ECU has no way of switching fans on an SR mate, OEM temp switch you are going to have to drill the rad and have somehow fitted in to it, a lot of messing for nothing. standard fan is fine on sr unless you are really upset sbout loosing .5 of bhp !!
