2 questions
1......Can someone tell me exactly what is involved in putting a high torque gti corrolla engine into a ae86 booter...
some say wiring is different, flywheel, engine mounts, inlet mani, etc etc.
2.......Is there much gains in runnin a 20v levin engine over high torque engine, and what work is involved in fitting a 20v engine, is ae86 box straight fit etc
20v would be a far better upgrade,
they fit straight in mounts wise and gearbox as the blocks are the same,
you'd need to get a dizzy relocater or cut a hole in the firewall or run it off cops (i did this pain in the hole dizzy relation better job)
the you need to get a water relocation kit rs chita or ledwich racing does them,
ecu and loom then either standard or a/m
high torque engine is basically the same afaik youll need to cut and plate the hi torque intake or get a tvis one apart from that i think its the same
There both a waste of time... Tell him to either SR20 it or sell it back to me and go buy a Galaxy for all his kids... Ha Ha Ha

kenny told you all the info id say martin , also the oil pickup is different location too so swap it from the fwd to rwd one or modd it ,
both blocks are 4age block, might be a good idea to baffle the sump too ..vvt needs oil lol. i think mcn sport do the water relocation kit too

with loom and ecu... does the dash side plug straight in or what? or has there moddification to be done to the loom?
^^^^ the above question is about both hi torque and 20v engines
more info on fitting a high torque needed
sorry martin never read it proper , the inlet manifold has to be changed to rwd ,
flywheel backplate has to be changed, waterpump and pipes have to be changed,
the engine mounts are bolted on in a different place and the timing cover is diffrent too plus the oil pickup needs to be changed. was there a high torque engine in it already?

Is the current 16v engine knackered.
I dont feel there is a whole lot to be gained by the high torque engine that you could not get out of you low torque with some mods.
It would be a hell of a lot easier that changing the engine loom and ECU
The hi torque does not run 100% output unless it runs with the high torque ECU, due to flow characteristics and the compression differences. This is much more work to switch the wiring to suit the high torque ECU as the pinouts plugs are different.
The 20v is a good upgrade and there are many people that can get the parts needed, and you then have throttle bodies but again if your 16v was in good condition the money may be better spent there. Cams head work and and simple Emanage would see you up to the 20v output. Really depend what the condition of the 16v.
