I got into drifting when I was 16, and bought my first proper drift car in 2005, a standard ca powered 200sx after having a vauxhall carlton and ford sierra to learn in.
Two weeks after buying her

Bottom end went!! Dropped another 2nd hand ca in.

After owning the 200 for 6 years, I decided it was time to sell her and move on to something hopefully a bit more reliable, and with some more power.

I was leaning towards something Toyota with a 1jz, initially I was going to import an auto jzx90 mark2, though after seeing the price auto 1jz Soarers were going for in the UK and roughly calculating the manual conversion cost, I knew breaking the s13 would be the right thing to do in the long run if I could find a clean Soarer shell with decent miles and a mint engine.

I watched a few sites for a couple of weeks, though most were v8's, rusty or high milers, some all 3. Three weeks later, my ideal candidate was advertised on pistonheads for £900. Imported in 2007, very tidy shell, although in a terrible colour with lacquer peel on the bonnet, with 94000km on the engine, 1 UK owner and full service history since arriving in the UK, this was as good as I was going to find for the money.
There was only one problem, I was in Northern Ireland and the car was in Essex with no tax or mot, so there was no way I was flying over and risking the drive home. The only option was a 'blind buy'!
I got the seller to send me a lot of pictures and take a video of her starting and running.

I decided to go for it, paid the seller and arranged for the car to be transported over from England the next week.

I was really pleased with her overall, there were some problems the seller didnt mention, though small things that can be fixed at a later date.
The engine and shell were both 100%!!! And the sound of the 1jz! even through the standard twin tailpipes sounded nice.

Couple days after driving her about it was brought inside to make a start

After searching endlessly for a supplier for the conversion parts, I found a site in the States, though it was expensive!!! 90% of the parts will work on mine I was told even though they are for lhd models.
Couple weeks later the package arrived

Set of 17" wheels I got at a bargain price

I wanted to paint her first before the manual conversion, me and my bro got to work rubbing her down and getting her prepped for spraying.
Looks better already!!

The kit cost me around £1000 from driftmotion in the us, then the box and clutch and brake pedal as they only supply them for left hand drivecars.
If you need any advise ask away

The suspension was the next area I started to look into.
IMO Japanese manufactured parts offer better quality and life time over cheaper priced parts, so I started to look at coilovers from Jap land.
I was going to go for a set of Tein's, though after seeing a MINT set of Kei Office for her, I couldn't resist.
After some money changed hands, it was a long wait for them to arrive, 2 months!! Though worth it when I opened the box

Auto box pulled out
http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h457/chris200s13/SAM_0030.jpg

Cut a new hole for r154 shifter position, it sits a little further forward than the auto selector.
Fitted the new bellhousing to the r154 box, got the flywheel+clutch bolted up and the box and short shifter on.

The clutch was a cunt to get where I wanted it, so much shite in the way where the top part of the bracket sits.
Eventully got it into position to mark and drill the firewall holes for the master cylinder.

http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h457/chris200s13/SAM_0014.jpg

The plastic foam crap on the firewall was a complete bitch to get through, theres barely room to move in there!
Eventully after spending about 3 hours at it with a stanley knife there was enough room for the bracket

Auto to R154 manual swap rundown:

This is how I went about the conversion and what I needed, hope I dont forget anything (please note I cannot say where I bought parts as that is 'advertising', though google is a good place to start!)-

Parts needed:
R154 gearbox with goosenecked shifter and shifter knob, try and find an r154 with the inspection chambers on the bellhousing, mine came without, though easy to make two up.
gl-4 75w90 gearbox oil, think mine took 3.4litres
R154 to 1jz bellhousing
R154 to 1jz bellhousing bolts
R154 to 1jz gearbox bolts
3 x dowel pins(for flywheel)
1jz flywheel and 1jz flywheel bolts
1jz clutch, pressure plate and pressure plate bolts
Clutch line from master to slave cylinder
Master Cylinder (I used an sc300 lhd drive one, better with one from a rhd Soarer or a mk4 supra)
R154 slave cylinder
R154 Clutch release bearing
R154 Clutch release hub kit
1jz pilot bearing
R154 Clutch fork
R154 Fork support with spring
MK4 Supra r154 transmission mount
Auto gearbox crossmember
VSS Vechicle Speed Sensor adaptor
Propshaft extended and balanced
RHD clutch pedal
RHD manual brake pedal, or modify your own like I done

I have had electrical issues since carrying out the conversion. I dont think it was due to the conversion itself, more due to the car lying in a soaking wet shed over the winter, the steering wheel and centre console started to go mouldy, this has all been throughly cleaned with bleach, though now my electric windows and sunroof are not working, my dash display is not working ie no fuel gauge no speedo no rpm, only the battery light and door open light and full beam are coming up, the car is starting and running/driving 100% with the new alternator, can anyone advise me as to what could be causing this issue?
Is there a main relay/fuse for all these electrical gadgets inside?

Any help much appreciated

Heres a picture of where the shifter is, i dont mind the position as it is perfectly reachable with your arm on the armrest, I really love the way the Soarer drives with the manual box, breaks traction with the 18" works on right to redline in 1st 2nd and 3rd :) shes still totally standard apart from the Blitz cat back, still need to get the ecu fitted, modify the airbox and get the fmic fitted ;)

Right finally got her out and washed. Here she is freshly painted, with the work wheels and coilovers fitted, headlights still need fitted, what do you guys think?
It looks like she could do with being lowered a little more but the exhaust is 2inches from the ground and I live in the middle of nowhere with bumpy roads surrounding my house so maybe a body kit is the only option for a lower stance?
The kei office are really nice to drive on, tight but not rock solid

Left the housing and the trd 2way to a diff/transmission shop, should be ready in a day or so, cant wait to get this thing sliding properly.

My 2way came from rhdjapan with Japanese instructions! I searched the internet but couldn't find any info on running it in, so went with how kazz recommends to do it.
After about 40 minutes of tight figure 8's the diff was broken in, didnt want to give it too much abuse until I get the oil changed but it seemed to be sliding well on slick 18's :)

Took her to a local drift event for a couple of hours, the car was sliding so well, then the clutch disc decided to slip then give up so had to retire for the day though was good to get the car out for a shakedown, the standard clutch couldn't hold out to the torque from the mighty 1j though will get an act 6 puck disc ordered from a trader on here, kind of glad it went now before I fitted the fmic and blitz ecu.
When I get the clutch replaced I'll get a couple of videos up

My brothers ca powered s13 200sx had a water leak last day at Aghadowey just after my clutch give in, he didnt make it to the competition (again) so we pulled the engine and box out the next day to check where it was coming from and replace any bad looking water pipes under the intake plenum....
Turns out it was only a freeze plug! easy fix. though while the engine was out he decided we would paint his rocker covers with stealth matt black and strip and clean up his engine bay.
The bay was in a terrible state and he was unsure wether to even bother getting the car back into shape for mot, though after a lot of grinding, welding, isopon, sanding, primer and some bright yellow paint, it now looks like this

Engine bay will be assembled and the engine and box will be back in this week to have her ready for Aghadowey at the end of April, hope he makes it to the competition this time :)

The chassis has also been cleaned and needs a few more patches welding into it, then she'll be going for the MOT some time in May

found a guy selling a used clutch for the soarer though think I might just add a few pennies to it and get a brand new 6 puck act disc and uprated pressure plate

Hopefully have it in the next couple of weeks, need to get her back out on the road for some sideways action, though the s13 is currently occupying the workshop space so no real panic.

Anyone know a company who do a Vertex replica kit in Ireland or UK or any going second hand?

Nice project :) Love the 1j. Did you ever fix your wiring problem??

Cheers dude, yea I got the dash and windows and that sorted, it was a loose 10amp fuse in the kick panel, must have nudged it when I was squashed down in fitting the clutch and brake pedal, though glad it was an easy fix

thanks dude, aye me and my bro have spent some amount of hours on this thing in our wee workshop, though wouldn't have it any other way!
Aye its a sore touch on the bank balance, though fuck it, it's only money :p

My new 6 puck stage 4 clutch(well 2nd hand, though only used for one event) arrived today finally, got it through driftworks off Matt Carter, he runs in the BDC with a 500bhp 1jz powered s14, so should cope with my modest 350bhp no probs, he even through in a spare disc!

My bro's 200 is pretty much ready to leave the workshop so will have the r154 off in a day or two , gonna send the flywheel to get skimmed just to be 100%, will update with pics tomorrow

My bro took the 200sx to Aghadowey on 28th April, was going so well, then it started to missfire, after seeing it spit puffs of black smoke it was obvious it was more than an earth or coilpacks or plugs, got it home and compression tested it, cylinder two was 100psi! Oil leaking past the rings, causing the miss!
The little ca has over 150000miles on it running stage two, so it had a long life compared to many others :)
We bought a jap spec s14a a few months ago for breaking and kept the freshly rebuilt sr20det setup, so you can guess where this is going in the next week  Onto the wun jay now....

UPDATE:
got the r154 box off EVENTULLY, the shaft didnt want to back out of the flywheel due to the pilot bearing, it eventully came out, though the pilot bearing was welded to the shaft! Never seed this before
http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h457/chris200s13/102_0606.jpg
I cut a gclamp in half and welded it up with some flat bar so it could be used to pull the bearing from the shaft.Rough, but it done the job!

New pressure plate with release hub fitted, 63% clamp increase over standard, good for 500bhp :afro:

New pair of Advan skid wheels, 17" x 9 wide! at a great price
http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h457/chris200s13/102_0601.jpg

Planning on getting her on the road in the next month or so, only problem is the handbrake light, bought a new sensor though still no lighty, had to pull the dash out and follow the wire to ensure everything is ok
http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h457/chris200s13/102_0612.jpg

Realised last day I had her out on track how poor the standard lock is, we will be modifying this over the next few days to improve things :D

Flywheel was left with smith engineering to get skimmed, should be ready tomorrow. Have a new pilot bearing coming from Toyota too so hoping it arrives tomorrow or Friday. Also ordered new inspection chamber covers, at £75 per side, fuckin expensive!!

Got the flywheel back on Thursday, only cost £35 to have it skimmed.
Also got the pilot bearing and one inspection chamber cover with bolts, the other is coming from Belgium so will be here next week hopefully.
Chucked the bearing into the freezer overnight to allow for an easier install, got it tapped in yesterday and the flywheel back on and torqued up.
Will hopefully get the gearbox and clutch back on over the next couple of days and the dash back together, dying to get her out for a test run with the new clutch!!! Will put a couple of vid's up

Cheers lad, yeah shes improved a bit from the green auto :D
Waiting on a new set of coilovers arriving and solid subframe mounts, the kei office are a little to soft for my liking and I was getting real bad wheel hop in the wet so time to get her tightened up, gonna weld a few plates onto the gearbox mount as well to stiffen it.
Planning on getting her on the road too so up for mot next week...

Well bit of an update...
Got the front mount fitted and the solid subframe collars, took her out for some streeto, going great, and then she locked in gear!! Even when dipping the clutch the drivetrain was locked!!!
Got her home and box off, clutch disk was stuck to the fuckin flywheel  Also heat marks on the flywheel, disk and pressure plate.

Anyway ordered a new act 6 puck disk from driftmotion and got the flywheel threw up to smiths in ballymena for another skim  Have a new act pressure plate there too so gonna use it.
Anyone have an idea why it stuck?!
Also have to get the hydro welded and plumbed in so shes ready for Aghadowey at the end of August, though its put a delay on getting her MOT'd :(

Give my wheels a repaint as they were in pretty bad condition and added 20mm spacers all round with some shiny new nuts. lowered a lot more at the rear too though the exhaust is way too low now, will have to raise it slightly and add another 10mm spacer to each wheel
