Car is mapped at 1.25 bar and the limit on the boost controller is set at 140 kpa limit, last Sunday at Mondello the boost controller kept beeping loudly and continuously and flashing "WRN" (which I presume means warning) up on the screen aswell as the "140 kpa" on the screen flashing too, when I drop gears it does jump up to like 1.5 bar or something, but on acceleration the gauge doesn't read above 1.25 bar which is what its suppose to read

Would this be down to a margin of error and correction with a boost controller versus an adjustable actuator?

Or should I be worried that its overboosting?

Thanks

Can't seem to find much anything on Google about this, anybody have this problem before or know a lot about these boost controllers?

Here man, might want to do some further investigation the next time you're out

The WRN is set to 140KPa which is about 1.4 bar.

Boost Creep
As long as the boost level is set below the warning level, the warning will activate if the EVC see's 10kPa (for more than .5 seconds) over the set warning level.

Monitor not setup right (doubt this is the prob as it sometimes holds a steady 1.25 bar)
If for some reason the boost level is set above the warning level, the warning will activate when the EVC see's 5kPa (for more than .5 seconds) over the set warning level.

I'm not a expert on this, but if it's rising/ spiking to 1.5 looks like boost creep.
Engine is pushing out so much exhaust that even with the waste-gate remaining open, it isn't able to divert enough gas to keep the turbine from spinning faster, so your boost pressure continues to build uncontrolled.. external wastegate or port the internal one or ring Robbie and ask him what's the crack

Ok thats not good so, I am getting a lot of boost creep then by the looks of things.

I think the peak boost on the evc read 174 kpa last Sunday which is 1.7 bar!!! That was only when dropping gears though it seemed which would make sense to the theory of too much exhaust gases and spool can't slow down quick enough??! In a straight line with the foot down the boost was reading steady on the boost gauge iirc

So the only way to prevent this is to externally gate the turbo??? Don't want to really have to do this as it is an internally gated direct fit turbo, very hard to find for Rb, and also will cost a lot of money which I don't have at this time

nice!!!

Slowing down is the not problem, it's up in the high rpm when the engine is working it's hardest.. the problem is the internal gate is too small and the gases can't get out fast enough on high boost. Instead of going the external waste gate route, you might be able to get the gate made bigger or ported or move the pivot point on the gate so it opens more.

You said this was a modified turbo..?

Ya man sounds like you are getting boost creep, maybe that turbo has similar problems to the 2871Rs with creeping.

Another thing that might be worth checking is if the wastegate penny washer is getting caught on something. I had this problem with my RB20 with the standard turbo at one point.

What you mean basically the gate itself isn't opening properly or something?
Yes could be a similar issue as the 2871's. I think I should just wait to hear from Robbie about this, probably the safest bet. Just sent him off an email

Ya in mine before the gate was getting caught. We got away with loosing the downpipe and moving it a bit.

Any word back from Robbie?

Yep, its not boost creep. Its turbo surge. Just have to reset the warning on the boost controller

 can you explain what's happening.. just out of interest?
