well, names Micheal, im 16 and i got my first car a ra28, i picked her up about 2 months ago now, she's very rough with allot of bodywork to be done on her. The lad i got it off had it half stripped and sanded down and lefted it sit up for a year. Running gear was already taken out, so i decide to start a rebuild of the engine which is a 18r. Plan to treat full shell for rust and take it from there so i have a good base to work from, it's very much a project car due to me doing all of the work myself but looking forward to it. All questions and comments welcome, will have pic's very soon.

good luck rebuilding the 18r bits are shocking dear for them and they are crap! put a decent engine in it while your at it!
it's not even the twin cam version, but i don't have a clue what engine would best fit into it??

well just found one or two of the photos today that didn't turn into cr2 files??? :confused: anyone know how to change them.
rear hatch was very bad so took out the glass and cut off must of the rust around the glass will have to cut of the wing completely off and make a new one. :(

as for rust the car's sill was repair'd on the left side of the car, the right side wasn't repairable so i drew up drawing for new sill and drop them into my loca fabricator, i should have my new sills for the car in two weeks.

the underbody will be taken down to raw metal, after welding on the sill is finished then a coat of : 2k acid etch primer, standard primer, seam sealer, standard primer, upol gravitex stone chip, coat of black paint, then waxoyl.

thanks lad, plan to have the gas for the welder this week and have all the base welding done before the sills come back so that they can be welded on straight away. then its all underbody sealing from then on :D

nice project,, not many about at all,,, undersealing will be a good job but dont put waxoyl on,, everything else you mentioned will be more than enough and waxoyl will just hide the good fabrication your doing, keep it for inside box sections and chassis ,,, its more for that kinda work and also for hiding rot on smelly old anglias and the likes,, will be keeping an eye out to see how this finishes up,, any idea on colour???

well fair play,, thats good work! ill have a look at a few colour chips tomorrow and see if i come across any nice dark blues for you,
opel-vauxhall z20q is nice when its just been painted or clean,, looks like shit on everyday astras though,, may not be dark enough for you though

cheers man, its a waxoil sealer, got it with the waxoil oil, and you can get it in halfords
Fair play lad its good to see the right work being done to a car like yours. Whats your plans for it? Is it a standard restoration or will you be adding to it?
cheers man, im going to add a few things like bolt in cage, rear three piece spoiler, coilovers not really sure yet
if your taking this on at 16 you will have a good future in automotive restoration and fabrication. good work, keep it up and keep learning.
