View Full Version : Team Chihuahua SR20 RX8
Well since I sold the SR20 Altezza I've been itching to build something else but this time fingers crossed I'll actually get it onto a track. While Martin is sorting the KP61 (The keeper), I've been looking on donedeal for the right base car, I finally bit the bullet and bought a 2004 Mazda RX8 231bhp model. I drove one of these for a few weeks years ago (Thanks D) and it left a lasting impression on me but you would feel cheated having driven an FD3S...
Kieran who joined up to Irish Rotary recently was looking for running gear from the above for an MX5 project so that suited me perfectly, alongside Bear aka Ross, we went up to Dublin, viewed the car and trailered it back to the workshop :) I'm currently breaking it to fund parts. I would love to stay Rotary and fit a 13B from the FD3S however reading up on the conversion on RX8Club.com and Brad Hackers thread on DW the cost of just getting the engine in and running on a single turbo alone would be the same as building a full equiped car running an SR. So cheap and cheerful it is.
Over the next few months I hope to build something useable with the help of D.R.T. Automotive, I hope we can turn out something unique. The plans for the car is to cage it (Thanks Mr. Stone), SR it and basically drive it on trackdays, hope to have it ready for around Easter all going well.
Current Spec :
Mazda RX8
SR20 Blacktop Engine, loom, ecu. Thanks to Gem
RB25 Gearbox, Prop, Shifter & Adapter Plate. Thanks to Alan Sinnott
Only have the car a sort while so will be spending time gathering parts for now along with Kieran who will getting the MX5 sorted. Here are the pic's of the car that we took on the way back from Dublin. I don't imagine there will be many more pic's for a few weeks. Shocking I know, the pic whore is loosing his touch.

Mad Mike's is king and always will be, Triple Rotor Once off wide arches, its just awesome, pure and simple... Ah this one will be finished alright, booked in for a cage start of Feb, windscreen out jobbie, in the mean time I'll be stripping the sack outta the car :)
interesting, best of luck with it dude, is it staying red?
Not to bother on paint for the minute, just wanna get her running and driving, will have to get new coilovers for her as there aren't that many of these floating around on aftermarket suspension. Reckon I'll just go with HSD's from Dave. EP Racing front bumper, sideskirts and an FD3S rear diffuser... Found fibreglass doors for her too so if funds allow they will be purchased but not before she is mechanically sorted...
best of luck with it Brendan. cant wait to see how it turns out. you going for big power?
ha i knew about this before anyone, fairplay brendan it will be a savage motor when finished

No lad, around 320bhp, nothing too fancy, remember I can't drift so what goes out nice and shiney will more than likely come back a missile...

You did indeed dude ;) Can't wait to see your build, it is gonna be awesome fella, nom, nom, nom....

Hopefully it'll be nothing like the Altezza, no interest in daily drivers anymore, more than likely sell the Works soon enough too...
Never ceasing to amaze Brendan!! Looking forward to seeing the build!
Thanks alot Jay, hope to make it purposeful more than anything...
Little update on the car, she should be lighter soon enough also :afro:

It's coming along nicely Brendan, you weren't long stripping it.
Cheers Kieran, just takes a bit of time and effort.... The weight of the stuff that came out...
It'll be your car next ;)
gona be different when done! you usin it for road or track?

Track only dude, shell hopefully won't stand me took much by the time I sell off a few more bits...
The dogs rock, hence why the car will have Team Chihuahua on the windscreen LoL
Not much of an update, been busy with moving and work. These are fiddley little fuckers to strip, plenty of hidden clips and bolts. got the boot stripped out, my god the amount of shit coming outta this car, I can't wait to see what the final weight is...

http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0020.jpg
Stripped off the rear doorcards also and the locking system on these should be a balls with fibreglass doors... The more panels that come off the more wiring I find, stripping the loom is gonna be a pain in the sack !

http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0023.jpg
Quick update, I got bored of stripping panels and the wiring loom is just gonna be a balls so I moved onto removing the sound proofing. I started in the boot and on the right hand side chipping away, what I had noticed is that there had been a pretty big oil spill with the previous owner and what you could call the spare wheel well had been filled. What happened next was brilliant, the oil had soak into the sound proofing over time and the centre section just lifted off, no hammer or force needed, the glue came off also with the proofing so a quick wipe of a cloth brought it right up. Curious to see if this would work again I got some waste oil and used it on the glue on the sides of the boot and it lifted it. At the rear bench I spread some oil on a small corner and let it soak in overnight, hoping (desperately LoL) that it would work again. Unfortunately it needed more time and I don’t have patience so I hammered away and used some petrol to lift off the glue. Job done for the back half, gonna get stuck into the front half of the car later on. Here are some pic’s for now :
Notice how the centre section is practically mark free compared to the rest… Pity it is not an overnight process….

http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0031.jpg
And now the dreaded wiring, this f'ing car is riddled with wires, labelling plugs :(
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0032.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0033.jpg
Can't wait to see this thing with a full wide arch kit dropped on its ring ;)
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0034.jpg
Then got stuck into ripping out the heater matrix and more sound proffing from the firewall, small bit more to chisel off the foot wells but almost complete, nearly ready to receive the cage :)

I can't fully remember if I read this in your thread but are you going with fiberglass doors in this? Just the front's or is it possible to do the rear one's that flip backwards open as well?
Just out of curiosity/interest really if its possible to use fiberglass alternatives for all four doors of the RX8 and what effect would it have on the handling/shape on the car seeing as they have no B pillar and all. I know in essence you could reduce all this with the cage you are getting built for it with that in mind but i'm just interested in how ye plan on combating it.
Seem's like a tough/complicated car to work with, but interested to see how it develops.

Yes I will be running all lightweight panels by the end of the build. All doors, wings, bonnet, boot, quarters and of the obvious bumpers / skirts.
It has been done many times before, below is a link of a built R3 model but in addition to the cage I will have the car seam welded. This portion of the build will be finished by the end of Feb all going to plan...

If it was straight forward it wouldn't interest me...
So here is todays quick update, there was a drip, drip, drip from the pipes leading to the oil coolers and it was getting on my nerves and the garage floor so they had to come out. Threw the car up on axle stands got ripping the splash gaurds from the front arches.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0038.jpg
I don't think Mazda used enough bolts and clips
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0039.jpg
Unbolted the corners of the bumper which gave me access to the top bolts on the cooolers, 3 more bolts and the complete system dropped out, some set up to have direct from the factory.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0040.jpg
Job as usual cut short by crap weather, so back to the garage until tomorrow, bless Ireland LoL
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0041.jpg
So haven't done a whole lot over the weekend barr finish off the jobs I started, it took a few days but 15kgs lighter now thankfully. Just have the last of the glue to remove from the drivers side foot well.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0042.jpg
I had planned on stripping the front doors down like the rear but there is a second skin and the window harness and runner is bolted to it so the weight saving there is on hold until I get the fibreglass doors and lexan kit. All I could really remove were the speakers.

I've only ever seen the car in darkness or partial light due to being in the garage so brought her out for a wash to get an idea of what repairs are need, awkward dent on the passenger rear door, front and rear bumpers are being replaced so nothing needed there and all thats left is the drivers side wing so I happy enough, big weight off my mind is there is no rust repair needed thankfully as I was concerned being from the uk originally...

Thanks Jay/ Its just to empty the engine bay really and the abs won't work with the new stoppers dude.
I decided to keep my monster Works Wheels and will use these as a point of reference so I can build the wings and quarters, must pick up another pair for the rear something like 18 x 11JJ or 11.5JJ -10 offset as I don’t fancy ripping up 315’s… Back onto Dave to wreck his head some more…
Work Meister S1’s
Front 18 x 11JJ +10 offset : Tires 255 / 35 / R18
Rear 18 x 13.5JJ -10 offset : Tires 315 / 30 / R18

Niiiiiiiiice! I was actually asking Dave if he knew what wheels you were planning on using for this beast!!
I will run the 11.5JJ's on the front, might need a spacer thou with the brakes and the 13.5JJ's will be more of a show piece for when she is static. Gonna try find some 18 x 10JJ Meisters for the track... The S14 is really taking shape :)

As Yowdy said its sold...

It'll take a while to build but hopefully it'll be nice, impulse buys are slowing the progress although I've only bought one thing on impulse so far :)
What weight are you hoping the car to be when its all finished??
Hopefully as close to 1,000kgs as possible, curb weight standard is 1,373kgs...
So just a small update, I was onto Brian in Driftkits.eu and looking for a vent to build into my own bonnet, so he cut up an S15 skin he had in stock, legend ! Looking forward to fitting it once it arrives ;)

Dibs on the seats when your selling,
If I sell the car the seats will go to the KP61 ;)
Finished removing all the glue with petrol left over from the sound deadening, took off the heat cover under the bonnet, lined up the vent and have it ready for cutting tomorrow :)

Cheers Tommiii...
Well since the car is gone I decided to do a bit on the bonnet, ground down the edges of the bonnet and under the vents so they sealer could bite into something :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0085.jpg
Used the usual pop rivets to hold them in place while the sealer set but looking good so far :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0086.jpg
The underneath just needs the lines tidied up a bit so they are even but all in all I'm happy enough...

Time to make it look original using a sanding disc on the grinder :

First coat used a 50/50 mix of filler and fibreglass, my poor garage, hate the stuff :

Ah its just something to fill in the time, looking forward to getting the car back so I can start on the wings and quarters...
I just had a spare hour last night so I cut away the underneath of the bonnet, I left the bulk section at the front for strength but also I cut it on either side, bent it back and bonded it to the skin, it now allows the vents to work properly, I will tidy it all up once I get a chance as it is very rough atm...

So got the finger out and finished off the vents, one or two bits to pick in but happy enough with how it turned out, must reinforce the frame underneath next, the pressed rotary shape has added strength to the skin and with the fibreglass vents flex should be minimal...

Well last night I was searching on goopgle images for stanced RX8's while herself was watching some soap on tv and spotted a pic of my car, looked at the addy and it said speedhunters, was like nah, can't be my car, must check out the build, low and beholed it was, Mike Garrett from SH had spotted the build on Driftworks and taken the time to read the whole build thread and post up a feature on the car, to I'm happy would be an understatement, nearly hit the roof, even sent a few texts, sorry lads LoL Mostly positive comments too so well chuffed. Huge thanks to Mike for the feature and nice to see Mr. Stone getting a mention too for his work on the car... Can't wait to get stuck into it now and get her finished :) Check it out :

Couldn't be happier with Johns work, great chap to bounce ideas off and will always give you the best advice. Once complete you know it will have been done right.
In Ireland there is my SR20 RX8 and up north is the RB25 RX8 so far, probably more builds popping up soon enough, was looking at the straight 6 conversion and with the steering rack position it looks very noise heavy, taking the main aspect of the RX8 away, its weight distribution and balance...

Oct / Nov hopefully, funds depending :)
So I have had these Brembo's for around 6 / 7yrs and never fitted them to anything, decided it was time to get them off the shelf, they used to a demo set for display but I had to have them even though I'd no car suitable for them, anyways they will be clamping onto 356mm discs using Ferodo DS3000 Plus 03 Brake Pads. So the car is booked into Trackday Performance for Aug 9th, in the meantime I will be bringing the car home to try get a few bits wrapped up on the build... Now they are SERIOUSLY impressive!!
Cheers mate, about time they got fitted.
So John sent me on a few more pic's of the mounts and bits that got some primer, here you can really see the detail gone into the intercooler / rad rear mounts and also the way the RX7 rack was mounted.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0134.jpg
The rack used the inner arms of the RX7 but the outers of the RX8.

Decided it would be better to weld some of the ducting to the body of the car so that when painted it would look cleaner.

Sorry folks that I haven't posted any updates in a while but hope to change that very soon. At the moment the car is in TDP having the Brembo's fitted however this in itself has been a task, the calipers are so big that it would have affected the lock on the car if I was to space them back from the wheel to allow fitment without a spacer. Being a double wish bone set up has its challenges and this is certainly one with big brakes. The stock position of the caliper was to remain however this now meant spacing of the Work Meister in order to clear the rear of the spoke. The space needed ? 55mm or just over 2" inches, now in turn this will have a knock on a effect where by I will more than likely have to do some modification to the footwell but sure thats only a cutting dish and a welder :) Lastly it looks like the car will be really wide already running an 18 x 11JJ up front and now a 55mm spacer on top of that, should make for some interesting arch work coupled with the 13.5JJ rears the car should have some presence, next up back to Mr. Stones for some more fab work...

While I'm waiting on the car to come back from TDP having the brakes fitted and custom spacers machined up, I got to putting the seats back together, the dash all in one piece and the harness a bit of a clean. Have a sparco snap off kit and wheel in the RX7 that I'm gonna try use on this so fingers crossed as its a cool bit of kit :)

Its been a long time since I had an update on the RX8, with that I took a spin up to Gripfab yesterday to deliver some parts and sort out a plan for getting the project moving again. Of course the first thing was to roll her into the workshop and get the rear wheels on to see what kind of a challenge lay ahead.

As your going to use it for motorsports, will running the arches not restrict you to those size wheels. Having one set of wheels will be killer on a track car, unless your planning on buying a few sets???

Its a trackcar, I'll have more rears around 10 / 11JJ but thats a concern for when it is built, for now I just want it done.

That looks nuts!! Cant wait to see how the arches turn out and how she sits then!
This will look awesome, what are you going doing with the arches?, over fenders like the tezza or will you cut and flair the arches.

Dude keep it up, kinda lost interest in getting one but this has perked me up much....
I went too far with think one, should have kept it road / track so I could have driven it ages ago BUT I'm delighted I did, try get a 231bhp out on a trackday fella and you'll love it. You can get turbo kits from the states...
We got some 007 shit going on here, my new switch panel. Now you see it :

Aiming for April...
Right so, a decent update, was up in Gripfab yesterday with John, Bryan and Brendan even popped in to say hello between building engines in the other workshop. Time came for cutting up car so after a few sugar induced conversations we hatched a plan and got to work :)
Chopping up the wings :

Fitting temporary braces to hold the 50mm gap at the front :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0170_zps6c506436.jpg
Front panel was restricting airflow so that had to go :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0171_zps6c5ce5dd.jpg
Engine bay needed some flattening down and all the useless original holes ground so they could be welded shut :

AE86 Spoiler needs a lot more work but have a plan now :

Stripped out the back, standard exhaust, impact bar and heat shield now removed (17kgs) :

The rear is one of things you have to see in person, looks very flat in pic's but has a nice shoulder on it, there is filler work to do next so that will take the edge off, can't wait to get up to Kilkenny again but for now I'll leave John work away :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0189_zps9ed7779d.jpg
I have to say it was a pleasure working away with the lads yesterday, no shortcuts (excuse the pun) taken, the car is taking shape the way I want it and I couldn't be happier with who is working on it. Will aim to get up next week again to start the filler / fibreglass work. I know it won’t be to everyone's taste but it’s to mine so I'm happy.
Cannot wait to see this done! Great work going into it!
the arches are deadly nice work man

We had some sun yesterday so John pushed her outside, still can't see what the rear arches really look like, need to get up and get some proper shots but I think she will look sick given that she is now 6ft 7" wide, wheel to wheel :) Big Booty Bitches ftw
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0190_zpsa89ed238.jpg
front arches look great! back ones dont imo :( in that pic above, the existing piece of arch (red bit) looks way to flat, sort of even looks like the top edge is wider than where the lower arch sits? basically, looks like its going to rub to shite or else have to be really high!
anyways, looking forward to seeing the front end all together!

Its definitely ones of those things you've to see in person, failing that I have 10 foam blocks to be collected from my local flower shop after work today for shape and fibreglassing so we'll go from there :)
So Gripfab have the arches done on the rear, big booty bitches ftw :) Heading up Tuesday to sort the rear bumper so more updates coming :

The inner skin got plated up :

Gonna be wide :

Then lined up the seat for mounting, first time I've sat in the car in almost a year, really wanna drive her now :

The work on the arch's looks savage, makes it look easy. Only worry is that they'll stick out abnormally wide like they did on the Altezza but they look okay in those pic's there!
Dude is there a medium sized wheel out there that will go on that won't need a 150mm spacer haha ??
Some serious arch work going on here.
Are those Brides standard or were those wings put on by somebody?

Came from Japan that way in a HRV :)
Plan was to have the car back last Friday however after letting my imagination run away with itself I decided to get a few more bits done while it was up in Gripfab, going with a twin exit exhaust system now, having both subframes blasted and painted up and the rear upper arms modified.
So on full lock the wheel was catching the seam on the floor well, solution was cut it away and weld it up :)

The all important numbers at the rear :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0203_zps38a2a4d1.jpg
Decided since I was up to add a small bit more of a roll / flare even though these wheels wont be used on the track.

So while th car was in Gripfab the lads stripped off the subframes / arms and had them sent off for media blasting to get shot of the tatty surface :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0206_zps242628ba.jpeg

http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0216_zps7bd9b464.jpg

Plan is to finish the 4 arches first, once that is done then I can move on to the bumpers / skirts and the rest of the exterior. The part I am dreading is doing the interior and engine bay :(
That looks fucking mental...... put it on the road.....!!!

Small update, took out the lights and off with the bumpers, then she decided to get pissy and have a leak :

Rolled her out to start the passenger arch and take in some sun, as you can see I had loads of help :

It'll be a while yet mate...
So I free'd up some time to get back to the RX8 today, applied the last 50/50 mix to the passenger rear quarter so now I have a better idea of how it will look from the rear :

coming together nicely dude!
what would you reccomend for filling with that doesnt craack?? my overfenders are molded in and have cracked all the way around, what could be used to fix and prevent futre cracking??
Savage work, looking to have something similar done on my own arch's soon, or else I may just go with some over's depending on price etc.
Interested to see how the bumper works out!

My bonnet crack very slightly from me throwing shit up on it, flat head sanding pad for a grinder, go back to the metal and refill with a 50/50 finishing with filler however if its not properly bonded on it will always crack...

I will be adding canards and a diffuser (possibly) to break up the front a bit yet, the bumper had to be widen 100mm at each side to give you an idea. The car is 6ft 3" inches at its widest point :)
Decided to chop the rear bumper today since I had some time, plan is to have it vented like the front wings, join it at the top and the bottom only and I made the exhaust exit a bit wider too. The space on either side of the fog will be cut out and I will be flushing the licence plate recess for a smooth arse on her ;)

More tomorrow. Just confirm the front of the car is 77" inches wide (6ft 5"inches) and the rear is 78.5" inches wide (6ft 6.5" inches) LoL
Reminds me of some sort of crazy concept car!! Which i suppose it is really......! Fucking beautiful....hurry up and finish it :P

Hmmm I haven't updated the thread in a while, not much has happened but I'll bring you up to speed.
I needed to line up the rear bumper section I cut off, so used some metal from a bonnet I chopped and pop riveted it on to hold the shape.

So I had to give the garage a bit of a clean as it was wrecked, threw the car back in and I have to say I felt sorry for her.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0255_zps178230d7.jpg
So with a burst of new interest pulled her back out of the garage Monday and got back to some sanding / stripping.

Unfortunately this is the slow part making sure the lines look good and everything fits like it should, removing the wiring from the doors and unnecssary clips. However I have enlisted the help of a mate (panel beater) who will be repairing any of the dents in the doors and priming them. Also we will be finishing the bonnet and wings to get them ready for primer. All of the above should be primed by early next week, then its a case of finishing the bumpers, skirts, spoiler and boot and having them primed. Once all the exterior bits are finished and ready for paint the engine bay and interior will be attacked, this is how the car sits now :

Hopefully :)

I was thinking about it but it just looked wrong.
So I got a bit more done last week, chopped up the AE86 spoiler a bit more to give a sharper rise at the rear. Then got out the bondo and pop rivets, still more to do but you get the idea.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0259_zps4398ad6b.jpg
Stipped off the bonnet, wings and 4 doors so I could drop them out to the panel beaters garage, should all be back by the end of the week in primer. He is fixing up the car park dents and this frees me up to focus on the other bits.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0260_zps10bd2cf2.jpg
Even the dogs decided to chip in to get shit done, from the left you have Caesar, Nibbles, Phoebe and Romeo hiding in the background.

Next up, finishing the boot/spoiler for primer and move onto the engine bay and interior.
Jesus man your like the new chip fooze! You really make a car your own style! This thing is massive and i cant wait to see this on the track.....epic
Coming along nicely Brendan. Don't think the Meisters suit it though. You should sell them to me :p

Hardly fella, just tipping away with my own crazy notions. But cheers...
Coming along nicely Brendan. Don't think the Meisters suit it though. You should sell them to me :p
No bother dude, just gimme what they stand me ;) 4.5k :p
So I've been tipping away on the AE86 spoiler the past few evenings, although matt black looks cool as f**k it is an absolute f**k to sand off, it eats pads and time but got it off anyways, chopped the spoiler a bit more so it was closer to the boot and cut two lines into the rear so as to give more of a vertical rise while keeping a clean line on top.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0263_zps35f0af31.jpg
Some bonding agent and pop rivets later she was stuck down.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0264_zps6be9a5b0.jpg
To keep maximum strength in the joint I had pre sunk the rivets into the spoiler so they could be left in, add the bonding agent and some fibreglass matting this sucker should never crack.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0265_zps292f0153.jpg
Over that I then used a 50/50 mix of filler/fibreglass for more strength leaving the two corners till last as I had little or no idea how they would work out.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0266_zps9854cb9c.jpg
Using fibreglass matting and tin fibreglass to keep weight down rather than filler I built up a skin from the boot edge to the spoiler that flowed with the line of lights without loosing the lines of the spoiler, there is a 2mm gap between the base of spoiler that sits on the quarter so closing wont cause any cracking issues, also the spoiler looks flushed on the top front edges however its just the camera angle, I was able to keep the flat lines of the edges and carry them through to the boot and quarter. Should be back on this Monday evening again.

This Is gonne be badass when done man
Is this gonna be a Track car or a road car?
This Is gonne be badass when done man
Cheers fella :)
Is this gonna be a Track car or a road car?
Track car fella, I know I'm spending too much time on the look of it but if it was straight forward I wouldn't be interested in doing it.
So I collected the wings and 4 doors from the panel beater last weekend, didn't wanna squeeze in the bonnet in chase I damaged it, I have to say I'm very happy, there are 3 good layers of DeBeers 2pac primer on so the panels will just need to blocked and painted. As the car wont be going for paint for a while this will give me a good idea of th end result rather than a load of colours mixed / mashed together.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0268_zps884a792e.jpg
Took out the engine last night as I'm pretty much sick of filler / fibreglass atm. I want to prep the engine bay and interior for primer/paint.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0269_zps92d62056.jpg
So before I wrapped up last night I fitted the wings to get a proper idea of how wide she was, all I could think was "Beast Mode : On" :)

Rolling Arches tonight and setting suspension on a mates car so it will probably be next Monday before I'm at it again :(
This really needs a mental roatary engine to finish it off. the SBore just isnt going to cut it for how crazy the car is going to look in my opinion..
4rotor sickness please!!!!!!!!!!! Love the work man.

Will you be able to go full tilt in it on track knowing the amount of work/ custom work put in?

Wanna sponsor an engine, was only talking about this last night with MCON off Irish rotary, 65k for the 4 rotor kit from PPRE (Mad Mike's engine builders) and you have to assemble it yourself and get it mapped. One mistake and your 65k outta pocket ! I'd buy an R35 first.

As above ^^^

I was afraid of getting too wrapped up in this build from the very start so I made sure that the car would be completely road illegal so I'd have no other choice but to put it on the track. As for going full tilt, thats just a confidence issue that will be over come with practise and sure if it gets smacked I know a lad to fix it :)

PPRE are the best there is next to Re-Amemiya :)
Decided to get off my lazy hole and fit the primed panels back to the car, next up is the boot door, still have to collect the bonnet.

Defined Motorsport do also, think their option is still 40k and you've to make it fit and supply clutch and box...

Just about dude, crowbar and some wd40 :)
So finished off the boot door and tackled the sideskirts, they were straight so they needed to be twisted to match up with the new arches, after some chopping and fibreglassing I got there in the end, threw a few more bits on like the mirrors and petrol cap and I think she is starting to come together slowly :)

Thanks dude :)
So I got the bonnet, boot and sideskirts back from the bodyshop, all are primed now so there is only the two bumpers that are left to do from a bolt off / bolt on point of view. Happy with how the skirts turned out, the fit turned out well as nothing is holding them on front or rear, just in the middle. Enough words, more pic's :

Absolute savage man...u decide on a colour yet?
Absolute savage man...u decide on a colour yet?
More than likely white fella, easy colour to match if she gets a tip and considering this is my first track car its a definite...
So with the day job being so busy atm I don't have a lot of time to give to the RX8 however I can squeeze an hour or two here and there. I decided I wanted rid of the licence plate recess so rather than use that expanding foam crap which is so bloody messy I went a different route.
I started off by paying a trip to Flowers Forever where I normal get herself something but this time it was for my other lady ;) in the form of the oasis blocks that are used for displays. These blocks can be sanded with very little effort and weigh nothing. So with some impact adhesive I glued in three blocks and a bit of masking tape for 15mins until it set.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0290_zpsdfe9cd30.jpg
Using a steel ruler I gentle sawed my way along the tlop line of the bumper to keep the natural curve and from there used the waste to fill underneath as I only used 2/3's of the width of the block and the gradual slope meant that was more than enough, end results was this. I think the lights look like eyes with a green mouth underneath LoL
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0291_zpsc2a1ae81.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0292_zps2ff87fe2.jpg
Next up I will grind the edges of the recess down so I can apply a layer of fibreglass matting with a sudden rise. While all that was going I decided to keep some rear vents much like the front wings, using fibreglass matting again I reinforced space at the back and a resin at the front and left the metal plates that were original popriveted there for strength. So here is the first pass at how the rear vent looks.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0293_zps308ed7e1.jpg
Obviously still a lot more to do so will keep you posted as I go.
You'll kill me but I just can't justify an sr20 in this car haha ! It needs to be as big of an engine as the car  an LS with a sucker ! Or a Kane west something big ha !
Are you going to make moulds of the kit/arches etc? Considering it is a skid car, you are going to take some damage and all the mad body work you are doing i presume you are?
Would you not consider putting the rb25 in this and use the sr in your rx7?
I really love this so far :)

LoL no worries but, its only for a bit of fun but if there is a need of more power I'll stroke the engine and change the turbo :)

Rear bumper has been fibreglassed now and getting ready for filler :

Did a bit of arch rolling yesterday on a R32 GTST so gave the RX8 some fresh air.

So I decided to make a start on the front bumper, as per usual I had to make room, got my priorities right though, saved the axle stand for the king size Toblerone :)

I did however use them for the front :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0325_zps72c85c22.jpg
I had some temporary brackets already pop riveted on to give an idea of the task ahead :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0326_zpse24f3c5e.jpg
However the heights just were not right so I had to cut and space it at the side, again I got out the green oasis foam for some general shaping and starting to get a top coat of fibreglass on the front to hold the shape, the reinforcement will happen at the back but if you look at the bottom of the bumper the line now looks level and proper... Still have to roll my front wings, its never ends...

So got up at 5am this morning, loaded the car onto the trailer and set off for Dublin, only 130miles but at 80kph it was a long enough spin... Anyways on the good side, got it to MG Crash Crash Repairs where Mark will be painting the engine bay and interior (rollcage) for me as I'm a fussy f**ker. The RX8 was feeling a little intimidated by one of Mark's RB S15's ha, ha, his workshop is awesome, 2 x RB S15's, 2JZ Altezza, and my favourite the Escort Cosworth to name but a few. On the home stretch now :)

Car is in a league of its own lad fair play,
Thanks Jamie, just way too much time and money gone into this now. Just want it over and done.
So I haven't posted an update on this in a while, been busy with the RX7 and of course getting the other RX8 :) So Mark from MG Crash Repair sent me on these pic's of the car today, the interior and bay have been fully finished in Toyota 040 Super White, I think it looks awesome and I cannot wait to see it in the metal :)

So Mark sent on the previous picutres on Sunday when he finished painting the car, Monday after work, I packed herself and the dogs into the car and 130miles later we were in MG Crash Repairs. As herself is managing Team Chihuahua on fb she was good enough to take a few quick pic's of how the car turned out, the colour is so bright, I have to say what he was given compared to what he is returning, there is no comparison. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
Shiney :)

All projects are slow, all that matters is what you end up with ;)
So I've been quiet for a long time, work and other stuff taking over but I am happy to be going back at this, was up with John on Friday and we have pulled a plan together to have the car finished mechanically for Christmas :)
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/SRX8/0339_zps081e27cc.jpg
Dropped off a few bits including the freshly painted rocker cover so once the mechanical stuff is finished she will be heading for paint in January with a view to having it mapped and ready to go for February.

Just sick of waiting :(
So I have been really busy with both job so finding the time to work on any of cars has been a mission, never mind annoying others to work on it too :) Got the engine mounted back in, wiring started again, custom fuel cell and the new dash arrived, hope to have it out for paint by the end of December as I still need to make the front bumper, dumb ass idea to wide arch her. Enough talking more pics :

"Heroes For The Weekend" has been the best reflection of the Irish Drift Community I have ever seen, it is a 90min movie in HD. Your support will ensure that the IDC Crew continue to push the boundaries and give us the show we all want to see, 2015 was amazing, with your support 2016 can be legendary.

If you are a true fan of Irish drifting please spread the word and get it out to as many people as possible. Plus you get to see the RX8 too :D

So a bit has happened the past couple of weeks, got the fuel support painted up, new braided lines, billet fuel rail fitted, fpr, 740cc rc developments injectors and the exhaust system is all mocked up, just needs to be welded fully and we are well on our way, few more jobs to do but getting there thankfully :) Shout out to Stone Motorsport for all their hard work :)
