hello folks, i picked this E36 up today. its a 323i (2.5) as im only 13 ill be doing most of the work myself also so it will be done right and ill take my time :) so time for pics,
this is the way i got it

started removing the sound deadening with only a hammer and a screwdriver/chisel :p
if anyone has any good easy ways of removing it please let me know :)

i use ta park my car in the sun when i was removing that stuff because the sound deadening would just rise so i can jus peel it off but id say a good blast of a hair dryer would do the same

Leave the car out in the sun for a day or two and the sound-deadening will just crack away and peel off which is great as the glue comes away with it too and doesn't leave any residue or anything behind only nice clean paint.... oh wait, it's Ireland :rolleyes:
Spilling brake-fluid helps alot too in removing it funnily enough as I found out once unintentionally.
Usual way I do it is just get it soft with the heat gun and just peel it off with a scraper.
Then use thinners to clean off the shit thats left behind afterwards.
Its a clean looking 323i! Change the waterpump and stat before you do any hard driving with it anyway as if the alloy engine cooks, its pretty much scrap. Some of the early ones had a plastic impeller pump too that used slip on the shaft which wasn't good but you can get metal impeller versions from most good motorfactors or from the likes of Barrysmotorsport on here.
Looks like a very straight shell though :)

cheers for the info dave! i removed all the sound deadening in the back just need to get the sticky residue off now :P its actully not the same colour as that one its more of a minty green and cheers paddy!

bug and tar remover i used its good stuff any auto factors should have it and its a nice colour

should do the job i would'nt worry about getting it completely clean your gonna be spending more time lookin out of the window then lookin at the ground anyway
no major updates apart from removing the glue in the back as i have not removed the carpet from the front yet. Also i have a set of genuine E36 mud flaps if anyone has any interest in them?

im breakin a 528 sport and the engines goin cheapo. could also sell ya the diff to, just to have a spare, pm if interested...

Diff is different and engine might be alittle more work than its worth too if its a later double vanos engine.

no pics atm but all thats been done is i painted the grill surrounds black and fitted bonnet pins :) i will go get some pics of the car when i have time and theres light

Coilovers transform an E36 in fairness so definitely a good addition there!

decided to run them on the back for now as the profiles are different and looked like a dragster with the smaller profile on the front lol

got a few things past couple of days, got a steering wheels boss and some new wheels :D gonna fit the stuff tomorrow :)
the wheels are off a E38 7 series and are style 5's also are 16x8 et20 so will sit nice :cool:

it was only the master cylinder i bought which was 45 sterling but you can get a full hydro for bout 90 sterling :)

what did you use for the top of the handle? looks tidy! and whats up with e36's having SO MUCH wiring in them? can some of it be chucked out?

its just a bit of really sturdy plastic! and yeah some of the wiring is just for like the alarm, and fag lighter etc etc but it will all be tucked away pretty soon :D
i have also started painting the floor so ill get a few pics of it soon enough when its done :)
