any1 no how hard are these to fit???? or roughly how much would 1 cost new?? my s14 givs a loud thicking noise from the top of the engine when started cold,not from the injectors,i think its the oil pump is half fuked cos once its any bit hot ders no rattles at tall??? any1 else got a noise like it.......thanks in advance

or a lifter.... i know the ca's can get noisy sometimes.... ya can strip them out an soak them in oil to rejuvinate them!

no theres no oil cooler its jst basically a standard car...its got 220kms on it...

one of the buudys is the same, he was told its the vvt sprocket

if ya go over 1050 rpm, does it stop?
if it does - its your vvt sprocket and i wouldnt worry to much about it unless you're really fussy on you engine being quiet, then change it, costs about 300 quid...

na lad id say its just that, as far as i know it a fairly common fault as ive known 3 of the lads ones ta do it

as above,common fault on the sr id say its the vvt sprocket alright..

Keep an eye on driftworks and sxoc 2nd hand sprockets in good nick come up now and again for good money..

To confirm just get an extention bar(or any piece of metal) and put it to your ear and put the other end to the bulge on the front of your engine at the top(where the vvt sprocket is) You will then be able to 'hear' if thats exactly where its coming from.

It is very common on vvt equiped sr's and will cause no harm at all aside from the annoying noise.

New ones, as said, are a few hundrd euro or you could fit the srocket and bolt from a non vvt sr and get rid altoghether.

defo sounds like the sprocket, noise is annoying but doesnt make any difference really, gimme a shout if ya need 1 i have a spare 1 here...
