Do I have to supply my own steelies?

hachi.roku
25-07-11, 20:43
Yeah you do ;) You'd pick a set up cheap anyway outta a scrap yard :)

theres a lad in cork does these for 75euro a wheel but you supply the wheel and as far as i know they cant be balanced

hachi.roku
25-07-11, 22:28
Yeah these are cut on a cnc lathe and welded with an automatic welder so should be a butter job than the lad in cork. Ill be bringing sets up to the guy in about two or three weeks. They take 2-3 weeks to come back but mainly because they have to be shipped abroad

Theres a few here. But if they can't be balanced, they can't be done right or done safe. Google banded steels splitting and the likes before you do anythng.

The above offer is bang on the money.

little confused on this but to make a set of 4 banded steels how many steelies must be supplied, 8??

hachi.roku
27-07-11, 00:35
Shipping on top and you just supply 4 steels

hachi.roku

Any idea of anywhere that has some 16" steelies in 4x100 with a 57.1 centre bore fitment (Renault scenic spares fit) as they don't have any around here or within a reasonable distance. I need 6 done if they can be found;)

hachi.roku
31-07-11, 03:43
6 of them would be roughly €450 then add €75 if u want paint and then add postage afaik
So worth it

Interesting...

I remember one of the wheels he done a few years ago nearly knocked a tyre fitter on the floor in amazement as it only needed something like a 5 or 10g weight to balance it :)

I done a few and did some 25" wheels recently by 4" but as the chariot that they were going on does no more than 20-25mph, balancing didn't matter as much in that case... just needed to be strong as it weighs 10 tonnes, lol

CNC lathe wouldn't make much of a difference unless somebody is just cutting them with a gas-torch or grinder but an automatic pipe-welder makes a brilliant job of them.
I must see how much CIT would let the one they never use go for some day :p

Banded steels can be balanced no problem. I have done a few sets and never put more the 30gs on a wheel.

I would love to get a set done for the cam but what has a 14 or 15x114.3 steel?

15" g60 steels in 4x100 with adapters. You'll be adding spacing anyway for stance so it'll work out lovely.

Looking for some 16s but must get 4 or 6 15s too if I can.

VW wheels will do for the 15s but must try find some senic or mini wheels for 16"s.

Had some that I had banded in all that just had to be blasted down and sent off for powder-coating with some other bits but a friend twisted my arm for them, lol.

Ah right, I'm looking to swap my 14" banded g60 steels for some nice 16' normal alloys. Bit schmall for you.

DaveM-sport
13-09-11, 01:47
yeah, bit small really although they didn't look bad on Eric's E30 really.

banding them isn't a problem anyway, its just finding a few sets of the wheels is the tricky bit :)

What Size ET you looking for? 16's in 4x100 and et 45?

DaveM-sport
13-09-11, 09:12
Should be fine depending on what width they are with that ET.

Will be making 8s and maybe 9s so ET45 should work perfectly if they are around 6.5J to start with.

keith-n
13-09-11, 09:14

Well suggest a better ET before i look for some :p Was just thinking if ET is 35-45 then starting @ 45 would give the most room to band? (i'm talking about steels for you BTW)

DaveM-sport
13-09-11, 09:21
Cool, I'll do my sums there and see what will work best :p

DaveM-sport
13-09-11, 09:47
Just working it out there.

Some 6.5s with ET35 will work best for making 8s-9s so some 15s or 16s in 4.100 and ~57.1 center bore would be perfect.
ET45s will do too if I go mad and go making 10-10.5s but I'll probably have problems trying to clear the coilovers and chassis legs when lowered or on full lock without extra spacers and silly amount of arch work on the front. :D

Let me know about whatever you find anyway and can choose then.

Thats for fitting my car that usually would take a 7-8J wheel with an ET of around 15-25.

If people are wondering what they can uss, I can work out what sizes other people would suit best if they tell me what size wheels normally fit the car or wheels and/or spacers they use to clear coilovers etc.

13-09-11, 09:57
Excellent

I'll have a look around.

keith-n
13-09-11, 23:51
The 4x100's are not there in 6.5j et35. We'll be going 5.5j..... this alright with you?

DaveM-sport
14-09-11, 10:39
Will do the finest. That'll mean a zero offset 8J wheel with a 2-3" dish and good clearance to the suspension and chassis legs

keith-n
14-09-11, 14:16
Awesome, These'll be easy to find, any vw steel wheel............. I've a thread up on vag divers.

DaveM-sport

Cool, I'll keep an eye on that thread so :)

What's the center bore of them out of interest?

Vw's are 57.1 center bore. YOU'D THINK YOU'D KNOW :p:p:p:p:p:p:p

You seem to know alot, was just suprised you had me looking for a non existant width 15" steel, but then you pointed out the crossed wires / poor english :o

15-09-11, 00:50
What sort of money would he charge to do a set of g60's for me? 7.5 and 9

This is over in the vag-divers thread. Wasn't sure if to "out" you or not

DaveM-sport
15-09-11, 13:58
Cool, say 340 including power-coat in any colour.

That should cover any size upto sixteeen in any width.
