PRODRIFT SERIES FINALE - STARRING TEAM NEED FOR SPEED
Drifting will be the centre piece of this years Jap-Fest with the final round of the Prodrift Series taking place. This will be one of the biggest drifting events seen at Mondello Park for many years with Team Need For Speed and their drivers Fredric Aasbo and Darren McNamara making a guest appearance (see news sory HERE).
Along with Formula Drift Stars Aasbo and McNamara a number of other overseas drivers are expected to make the trip and details of these will be announced as they confirm their participation.
The Prodrift event format sees drivers run on their own in qualifying to determine the top sixteen qualifiers. The top sixteen drivers then go through to the Superlap stage where their performances determine the running order for the top sixteen run-off. In the final stage of the competition drivers then go head to head in two car battles with the winner of each progressing through the top sixteen run-off, quarter final, semi final and final to determine the overall winner.
For the 2011 event Prodrift will bring the deciding round of their Irish Series to Mondello Park for what will be second visit of the year to Mondello.
TIME ATTACK
Back once again for 2011 is the Irish Time Attack Championship with round five of its six race schedule. Time-Attack gives car tuners the opportunity to prove who has the fastest car over a single lap of the track. Time-Attack requires a car with all-round performance. This season sees a six race series take place at Mondello Park with Time-Attack sharing with Car Race Events, Drifting and shows.
The Time-Attack competition will be decided over three sessions. Two qualifying sessions will be run which will decide the running order for the Final. The final is the only session to count towards the overall result and for the second occasion during the 2010 season the final at this event will follow the highly popular single lap shoot out format. In the single lap shoot out the running order is decided by the times from qualifying with the slowest driver going first and the fastest qualifier taking to the track last.
DRAG-SPRINT
Ireland's fastest cars are invited to take part in the drag competition which despite the event's title is open to all cars even ones of non-japanese origin. The cars will be split into classes where they will compete for class honours in the heats, before the top cars go forward to the finals
The heats will mix all cars together and competitors will then be seeded according to their qualifying times for the knock out finals, with the aim of keeping the fastest drivers apart until the final race. The drag sprint will take place on the Mondello Park main straight over two sessions. Session one will be practice and heats while the entire knockout section will be run off in one final session.
TRACK TIME
The Mondello Park Jap-Fest & Eurostyle Show offers modified and performance car owners a unique opportunity to take part in Ireland's only active modified car show. Prior to taking their place among the exhibitions in the paddock we are offering car clubs and associations, as well as individual drivers, the chance to take their cars on track for 'Track Day' & 'Drifting Practice' sessions.
