I havent had a project thread in quiet a while, and the main reason is that im to busy/lazy to update it all the time. so now im thinking if i make a project thread maybe it will give me incentive/inspiration to bloody finish this Car. maybee :)

Anyway, i bought a r32 skyline on here back last October i think. this is it when i bought it. it was fairly stock. few minor mods. i/c, exhaust, etc.

i ripped off the stickers. gutted interior, fitted Bucket seat, hydro, and coilovers.
made a hicas lockout system, and fixed the brakes. brought it to mondello and did this.

then had a bit of misfortune and this happened.

http://i51.tinypic.com/15wgcpv.jpg

so, under further inspection when i got home the body damage was worse than i taught. the shell is fairly rusty in parts as its an uk import, and she didnt take the slap to well. its nothing i couldnt fix, but i can condone spending that much time and effort on a rough r32. the only reasonable option. a re-shell. i went lookin around and couldnt find any reasonably priced 32 shell, but did find a few clean s13 shells. went to view a few and picked up a nice ps13 shell in mayo. and as murphy would have it, on the drive home with the ps13 dan moorhead rings me with a cheep mint 32 shell. :undecided:
ahh well, ive always wanted a ps13. and here she is.

The plans are to keep it simple and relatively inexpensive. It is a Tramp/missile/slut what ever ya wana call it, so i dont want to sink a fortune into it, but on the other hand im not interested in cutting corners anywhere as it'll only bite me in the arse when i least expect it. ill be building up the shell over the next few weeks, rollcage, suspension and steering mods, 5 stud conversion, coilovers, etc. then ill fit the engine and drive terrain out of the skyline.
ill be keeping the rb20 for the moment as it's what i have to work with right now.. it'll do the trick till i can sort something else.

and now the real work begins. getting this new shell ready for abuse. I decided to start with the cage. just something basic and safe, threw it together in a few hours, :p

Bit of a thread revival as ive started a new project. This will be a low budget build but it will still be built to a decent safe standard, just want a fun missile that i dont really care about for days in mondello or tullow. its hard to get time on my own cars so updates may slow but i hope to have it finished in the next few months. Right so back around xmas time i decided that i wanted a new project so i looked in usual places and picked up a english s14 off way2fastforu on here in galway.

and how she was when i got her home

car looked to be in good general condition, decent paint and most of it there but it did have the usual rust you get with english yolks. i threw it up on the ramp when i got home and started polking around with a screw driver and to my dismay the rust was worse than i expected, most of it was hiding behind shultz sealer and paint. both sils were rotten, rear shock towers had huge holes up at the top mount into the inner quarter. the front pass and driver floor area behind the front wheels were very bad and the pass side had a hole leading into the footwell, and the driver rear wheel tub had a fist size hole into the boot just where the fuel filler used to bolt. all this really pissed me off as i hate rust so i put the project on hold. I did look into buying another cleaner shell but that would be more moneys and in fairness other than the rust this is a pretty good shell so i bit the bullet and started on the rust repair. the more i dug the worse it got but after about 3 days work its all new metal, i havent much pics of it as i was so pissed off i didnt stop to take them, did i mention i HATE rust.

This is her striped down

rear shock towers were bad. there all fully welded and a shit load of tek7
to prevent further rust episodes.

Just cut out the sills and made them flat, will make jacking points off the cage.

While i was fluting with the rust i noticed the front rear subframe mounts were quiet rusty and also the bushes were very perrished so i made that my next job. i took down the subframe, removed the bushes and went about making solid mount plates for it. i raised the subframe 25mm to help correct roll centre and pitched it forward approx 3-4 degrees for a bit more traction. I also cut out the old pin mounting points from the chassis as they were quiet rusty and made new ones which i welded a roll cage tube to and put it up through the floor which will be tied into the cage at a later date. dont have pics of the axle, just this one of me making it,:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/v/912188_10200786195004834_764197001_n.jpg?oh=815115 ed6f6878c66758a323dbd4e1ea&oe=51937011&__gda__=1368623857_8576a2c7da65101ab5ae2c1f42e1316 8

and this one of the tube to be tied to the cage when i build it.

While the rear subframe was out i decided to take the tank out as the lines were in shite, there was no fuel pump and to be honest a 80L tank or what ever it is is way too much for a track only car.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/487420_649451075080807_1882284036_n.jpg

I looked at alloy and plastic fuel cells but most were too much money to
condone putting in a drift tramp so i decided to make one, and to save
time making one from scratch i started with a standard 20L steel jerry can.
My reasons for this is its cheep, ideal capacity, quiet safe and when standing
upright youll get minimal fuel surge as its a small area. the only thing getting
me was that i wouldnt know fuel level so i set about putting a sender in along
with fuel outlet/return and breather. I cut the handle area off leaving the filler
neck and measured the fuel sender level and angle. baffled inside, welded on
inet/outlet fittings and made a new top to accommodate the fuel sender welded it all together pressure tested it and painted.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/601783_649380051754576_1412335797_n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/969512_649379271754654_835382105_n.jpg

I then made a mounting bracket for it in the boot and painted it all up to
prevent rust.
