Right lads.. Im starting this build thread with the car almost finished, but better late than never!! Im building a drift car for the 2011 drift season. I bought it in October 2009, I had intended having it built for the 2010 season and on a budget of around 4 grand.. But between money problems and unforeseen setbacks it didn’t happen!!
I bought it as a practically standard road car with no engine, I got another engine with it, which the seller said he didn’t know anything about the condition of, so I took a chance on it. The car had been parked up with over two years, it had tein coilovers, a set of 16’ wheels and two gauges.

When I got it home I went about fitting the engine, there was a lot of small stuff missing like, the power steering pump, gaskets, oxygen sensor and a few wires and pipes here and there.. loads of small things that took a good bit of time to find. The camshaft angle sensor cover was broken so I got a complete unit off carpo.
I only had a chance to work on the car on Sundays and some Saturdays, and I was in fas in dublin for 3 months so that really slowed me down.
Anyway, I started collecting performance parts, Everytime id a bit of money saved up and good parts came up I bought them. A good few people on here will probably see parts they sold on it:D
I started taking all the stuff I didn’t need off it..interior, sound deading (cunt of a job) standard intercooler, all that crap.
I got one off the boys in fas with me to pick up a p/s pump, took it home and it turned out to be for a 180 with hicas, so I had to go searching again
While I was waiting for the bits to put in the engine, I got a willwood wand and braided lines and fitted it, bought an omp bucket seat and made a rail and fitted that.

While the engine was out I decided to order some shiney exhaust bits for it! I also got rocker arm stoppers and nismo engine mounts for it..
While I was waiting for them to come I got flush mount bonnet pins, a cut off switch and a pull cable from driftworks..that kept me busy for abit!

I ordered a dash dodger off carpo and fitted that.

The clutch that was in it was fucked so I bought an OS Giken Super Single clutch and a nismo slave cylinder for future power increases!.

Got a japspeed turbo elbow off carpo.
So I threw in the engine, I didn’t have a fmic so I just started it for a second an it seemed o.k. happy days:)
I bought 6 Enkei’s off 180sxbreaker..sound lad!
I got a greedy fmic, cusco adj toe and camber arms and tein tension rods..fitted them.

I got a mint japspeed catback and threw it on.
I started the engine and let it tick over..it was running on 3 cylinders so I got a friend of mine Kieran Stack (stack-180sx) to collect it and take it to his garage to see what was wrong. After checking plugs etc, we got a bore scope and piston number two was melted:mad:

about fuckin time paddy....clap clap:) yhe build is lookin well
and sum boy to collect wheels...hav to tell everyone on here this.....paddy came in a ek4 civic wit 2 other lads and talkin about a job we had to get the 6 enkei's into a it and still fit the 3 lads:p:p

I wish they were the only parts i bought for it!! I'll try to bring it up to speed tomorrow night!..It gets a bit more interesting, and very expensive!!
I dont know what to do yet. I need a serious amount of seat time, iv never drifted before:eek:

I was aiming for pd the whole time, but id say i mite do a few days at mondello and portlaoise.

We pulled the engine out again and taught about what was the best way to go from here.
RB or 1JZ were on the cards for a bit. But after a lot of thinking and researching for about 2 or 3 weeks, I decided that with my budget, a well built sr with a good turbo and injectors was the way to go for good useable power…
So after a trip to the nice people at the credit union I orderd a lot of stuff for it:D.
I'll put a full spec up after, but basicaly.. 87mm pistons, arp studs, 264 cams retainers and springs, tomei m7960 arms turbo, nismo adj fpr, hks 740's, walbro 255, an aluminium expansion tank and a load more i cant think of off the top of my head!!
We ripped apart the engine, and sent the block, head and crank to be machined.

In the meantime, i got an apexi power fc L-jetro.
As I was gone this far I said I mite aswel do it right..so I got a set of hsd coilovers and a 5 stud conversion kit with skyline brakes off Mike Fitz's Bridgestone Sileighty.

I got tein extra lock and a stainless steel steering bush off driftworks. I got a free wham bar, but it was squashed to shit!..its the thought that counts tho:D lol

O, i also got a japspeed high capicity baffled sump through my local authorised Japspeed dealer Mike Fitz:). They come with allen head studs for sump plugs which we didnt like, so we tapped out the hole and fitted a sard magnetic sump plug insted!

I was looking out for a z32 afm and I came across a power fc d-jetro, so I bought that and sold my l-jetro again!! I got a blitz aluminium rad off the same lad.

Made up a t-piece to fit the air temp sensor for the ecu.. Kieran didn’t want to drill the greedy hardpipe!!

Since I had gone 5 stud, Drift_sil80 gave me a loan of wheels to keep it rolling until I got sorted with wheels..

Ya, a fair bit alright lad! When i was doin it atal i said i might aswel buy new parts for the important bits, do it once and do it right!

I needed 2 spares for the back, so i bought 2 basicly brand new rota gtr's off Drift_sil80, 17x9.5 et12.

Kieran changed to a td06 so I bought these custom hard pipes off him which no longer fit his car ..i was delighted cause there serious quality, and his engine damper wouldn’t fit any more either so I got that off him too!
This pipe goes fom the turbo to the air filter, 3 inch the whole way and no afm:)

After waiting a week for my wheel valves for the dished wheels, we put tyres on them and they seemed to be fine, came back the next day and they were soft. The person (i had a few words to describe what i tought of him wrote, instead of "person", but i decided to take them out!) who refurbished the wheels didn’t seal them properly, so I had to take the tyres back off, remove all the sealer, split the wheels, seal them up properly and put the wheels back together.. more time wasted:mad:
I initially intended to just roll the arches and lots of low:), but when I put on the wheels that went out the window! So I got the 50mm quarters of Mike Fitz's car and i got 25mm wings off Drive n Style. I got sideskirts with the car and i also got a uras back bumper with a bit of damage, i bought a uras front bumper off Drift_sil80, also with a bit of damage but both fixable:).
The power fc i got was out of a blacktop so we got pinout diagrams off the interweb and Kieran changed the pin outs to suit the redtop.
We finally had the engine running perfectly, so we bled the brakes and the clutch and I went to drive it out of the garage and it wouldn’t go into gear. I was fairly pissed off to put it lightly:mad:
The clutch didn’t seem to be disengaging fully so the box had to come out again. The bearing I got with the clutch obviously wasn’t the right one.
We got a local machine shop to make a spacer to go on the sleeve behind the bearing I had. Put it all back together and put the box up..still the same thing, we tried putting a spacer on the slave cylinder to lengthen the rod and still the same story.
After a lot of research I found out that os giken clutches need their own release bearing and sleeve to work.. So I ordered one off wcp which took about three weeks to come from japan.
We took the box down again, put in the os giken release bearing and sleeve, up with the box and still no go:mad:
Considering the clutch and release bearng are costing me a fair amount at this stage its fairly depressing it wont work, so im trying to sort that out.
Iv had alot of costly setbacks so far, which is fairly sickening.. Id say if id ducks they'd drown!
Coming along nicely paddy i like the wheels, keep up the good work!
And im sure your luck cant be that bad that your ducks cant swim no LOL
