View Full Version : My 2dr Ae86 Project - Currently being sprayed by k1984w
lot of collecting of parts has been going on over the past year... worst kept secret as ive learned , as most ppl know my plans :) .... lots of setbacks , but its time to finish this bitch ....
had a shit time dealing with a spray painter last year , ended up taking my car back half done, loosing a good few bob in the process . Was a nightmare, car was in my eyes ruined .... and any2 who saw it agreed . So its been sitting in a shed for a few months as i was broke over it ....
anyways , id like to thank all my mates who have helped me out , and kept it positive , many times i thought id end up selling everything i have bought for her.
Driftma - id be nowhere without his help ... helped me no end , sorting / going over my new engine ( details to follow soon on the engine ) will update as we build the car back up. lots of work ahead , looking forward to it myself.
K1984w - Kieth - my new painter, sent me loads of pcis last night , which i will upload now .... a perfectionist !! rang him for advice of fixing my paintwork ... deadly man is all i can say. knows what i want the car to be like and is building it just as good as his own car , have nagged him time and time again , adding work to the job and never a bother . even the most awkward requests he has taken without a bother. attention to detail is just immense. cant wait to see the finished job.

Finally we get to see this secret. Them rear arches are just lovely how did he manage to do that. PERFECT!

lining up the bonnet ...
Bonnet is Run Free , vented .... needed a bit of fixing , had cracked corners and cracks on the vent, bonnet was previously on marytys barney booter... mr T50 in japan flew the bonnet up and cracked it a long time ago :)
kieth fixed it all up and fixed the aero catchs too . looking minty now.

front bumper was in bits too .... had a huge lump on teh front right.... and loads of spiderweb cracks ... broken round the spot lights too ... now all sorted.

front bumper was a nightmare to get right ... as kieth is a perfectionist, he wasnt happy with it just sitting , all drifty ... so has spend a few days making the front end as good as possible... the bit needed lots of shaving on the back to sit right...
also has moulded bits so i can now cable tie it on from the inside rather that on the outside .... looks a lot tidier ...

hank god kieth convinced me to get rid of the solid paint and tear it all the way back and do it with proper paint and laquer.

yup , heading to japan last year ruined me further, the ae86 had to get a rework. trust me youll like it when it finisihed . screaming 4ag all the way too.
was tempted to go sr but watching vid after vid of the looking ae86 i had to keep it 16v.

God I hadnt heard sniff of this untill now ha! Should be serious John. You're not skimpin on anything anyway, and it now has all the ingredients to be truelly awesome. Cant wait to hear engine details, but from the sounds of it that has been done properly too!
gonna be a sweet bus beems on throttle bodies with a buddyclub spec 2 exhaust would bee nice under the bonnet :D:D

actually reading the above engine thoughts, it may not be as epic. no turbo , no beams , but would have been nice. think martys sick of beams anyways so wouldnt do it to him .
it wont suit all the 16v haters but this car is keeping through to the boys in japan.
small bit i forgot ...
with the battle ver 2 kit fitted (giving super lock) and the wheels as far forward as can go , the new 15s are hitting the bumper.
kieth has slice off a bit off the bumper at the edges too so the extra lock wont blow the bumper off.. front wheels may need to be dialed back a tiny bit even so.

I think the engines are original built by formula Atlantic and haslgreen buy damaged ones and rebuild them and sell them for around the 20k mark and new one from formula Atlantic is around 40k mark....nice build subzero car is looking cool and with Keith painting it I'm sure the finish will be emense best off luck with it,il bee keeping an eye on progress!

Formula Atlantic is the name of the series (i.e Formula 1) that the engines are built for
I know the guys in Hasselgren and they build the engines from scratch. They won engine builder of the series 5 years in a row before the series changed to Mazda engines

@ ger and Huny - i still have the s15 allright ;) . have it parked up the past few months , wasnt worth risking it driving it to work in the ice and shite. will get it back out soon. couldnt sell it , hate loosing that much money on a car.

the back bumper was pulled off a good few times doh... just lucky it went into the ditch and that cushioned the blow!!! haha:p

k1984w has been busy at work, sanding down and polishing back up to get a mint finish .

thanks lads, hard to judge yet, seems to go well tho .... should be capable of 160 but ill just have to wait and see. may not seem massive but with the handling of this car it should suit it perfectly.
the lads in japan running this setup get good power and crazy high rev limits .
