View Full Version : BIG rb20det missfire on boost, help pronto please
Howya lads,
first off spec is fmic, actuator, walbro(?), wasted coil pack set up, no exhaust:o
The r32 had a small miss in portlaoise but revved through it and was ok on the day. There was a problem with the wasted spark pack yoke with a connection but we fiddles it and it was grand for the day. But when i took it down the road anytime since, its running on like 4, and then if you leave it idle for a while it fires on 6 again. If you floor it in second, it comes on boost and all hell lets loose, big bangs, flames and then stops firing on al cylinders.
Any ideas?? I changed the plugs and put in ngk 8eix or whatever theyre called today and nothing changed.
thanks

Where's the box off the wasted spark kit?keep it away from heat etc, Check all the wiring on it again there, reckon it's the wasted spark kit cause it's cutting back to 4 cyc
Get rid of that wasted spark kit lad, nothing only trouble

I am running a DW wasted spark kit on my RB20DET with standard ECU (with nistune) without any problems for the last 6 months.
v.good for u ,but it night not be that its the spark kit the fitting could be messy on his hence removal to eliminate the possibilty of it causing the problem .........v.simple

Ya I bought my kit second hand, when I got it the wiring was messy, do you know what I did............fixed it, also very simple, actually even simpiler.

good man .....
Like was said pete the dw wasted spark kit, fire it away there not a good product and are know to not perform right,if one is going right its just a lucky one,Its common for them to break down under boost, which sounds very much like your problem!
good man .....
hahahaha i was thinking the same thing!!:D:D:D

Take the coilpack of the cefiro as thats never gonna see the road again :p

Because someone who owns a RB20DET, has had exactly this problem before comes on to give some advice and gets treated like a retard because some people have 'heard' rumours of DW kit not being any good.
Pete give me a shout on FB if you want a bit of advice, I had EXACTLY this with my RB.

so ur calln me a retard too ??
We retarded? Oh that's nice. FYI a solder on the dw wasted coil set broke, but we fixed it, and it's still not right. Hence conclusion that it's shit!

Nope not saying anyone is retarded but some of the carry on is.
I am offering help if you want it Pete, Surely if you fixed the broken bit and it is still doing it this would probably show that it is something else.
Edit: I am not calling anyone a retard, I was orginally just trying to help Pete out and got slated for it.

^^^^ i think they call that a fail around here
Only way of fixing it was to fix it back in a roundabout way. Spade broke off in the unit flush, so I don't thing it can be brought back to life, i think I'll look into fitting coilpaxks as said maybe tonight! Cheers

Firstly deffo worth cleaning the AFM, I have also seen old/blocked fuel filters cause this problem. Also worth checking the inside of the tank for rust, I have seen quite a few like this causing the fuel filters to become knackered and cause the problem you are describing.
